  • Orioles' Jordan Westburg: Throwing sans cast

Westburg (hand) did some throwing without a cast Tuesday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Westburg is almost five weeks removed from suffering a fractured right hand and has finally been able to ditch his cast. He'll continue to ramp up his activities and will likely require a short rehab assignment before being activated by the Orioles. A return in mid-September looks doable.

  • Orioles' Jordan Westburg: Still doing on-field work

Westburg (hand) has continued to take one-handed swings and fielding grounders, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.

Westburg was cleared for the activity Aug. 20 and has continued to do on-field work to avoid getting too rusty as he recovers from a broken hand. He remains in a cast but is expected to return before the regular season concludes.

  • Orioles' Jordan Westburg: Resumes baseball activities

Westburg (hand) has been cleared to field grounders and take one-handed swings, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

It's not much, but it's the beginning of a ramp-up for Westburg as he works his way back from a fractured right hand. The infielder will eventually need to undergo some additional imaging to see how his hand has healed before a clearer timetable for his return can be established. Westburg suffered the injury on July 31.

  • Orioles' Jordan Westburg: Lands on IL with fractured hand

The Orioles placed Westburg on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a right hand fracture.

Westburg suffered the unfortunate injury when he was hit by a pitch in Wednesday's win over the Blue Jays. The Orioles haven't provided a timetable for Westburg's return to action, but he could be sidelined well into September. Baltimore is set to use Jackson Holliday at second base and Ramon Urias at third base most days, but prospect Coby Mayo could eventually get called up from Triple-A Norfolk and receive a look at the hot corner.

  • Orioles' Jordan Westburg: Diagnosed with fractured hand

Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said that Westburg has been diagnosed with a fractured right hand after exiting Wednesday's 10-4 win over the Blue Jays, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Westburg suffered the injury on a hit-by-pitch in the bottom of the fifth inning. Hyde said that the Orioles are hoping to get Westburg back before the end of the regular season, but a clear timetable for his return hasn't yet established. Westburg's absence could open the door for top prospect Coby Mayo to receive a call-up to the majors, though the Orioles could also stick with Ramon Urias at third base and Jackson Holliday at second base.

  • Orioles' Jordan Westburg: Leaves game after HBP on wrist

Westburg was removed from Wednesday's game versus the Blue Jays after the fifth inning following a hit-by-pitch on the right wrist, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Westburg initially remained in the game after being struck by a 95-mile-per-hour Yerry Rodriguez fastball in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring a run on the Jackson Holliday grand slam. However, he was then removed when the Orioles took the field for the top of the sixth, with Ramon Urias taking over at third base. Baltimore should have more on Westburg's status soon. He went 0-for-2 in three plate appearances before departing.
