    Analysis

    We're getting the combination of an awesome hitter who's on a hot streak and who owns a .600 career lifetime average against the opposing starting pitcher. Over his last six games, Yandy Diaz is 13 for 28 (.464 average) and reached at least two total bases in five of them. Against Trevor Rogers, Diaz is 6 for 10 lifetime with three doubles. Though the Rays have a comfortable 6.5 game lead in the American League East, losing three straight games to the Orioles wouldn't inspire confidence. I think Diaz posts another multi-hit performance and goes well over 1.5 total bases on Sunday.

    Analysis

    Caesar’s. Mike Soroka is making his second start after missing seven weeks with an injury. He threw 77 pitches while only finishing 4.1 innings, after only tossing 57 pitches in his lone relief outing. The oft injured pitcher has yet to finish even five innings in either outing, so this is a lofty number, especially with a fresh bullpen behind him. The Braves bats have been cold, but when fully healthy (as they are now), they do see a lot of pitches.

    DraftKings. This is a low line for Patrick Sandoval, who has registered 29 strikeouts in 30 innings for the Red Sox, since making his return from Tommy John surgery. He’s cleared this line in 4/6 games, with his lone misses in two outings against the tough to strikeout Blue Jays. He’ll now face the Pirates, who have been strikeout prone against lefties all season, including 25.6% in the second half. Any rain for this one should arrive well after Sandoval is finished for the day.

    Analysis

    Pretty solid Saturday except in this dumb sport. Maybe I should stick to soccer, NFL preseason and UFC? Nah not yet. Milwaukee is certainly capable of knocking off Tarik Skubal and the Dodgers but is likely down two key bullpen guys in Aaron Ashby and trade acquisition Antonio Senzatela. Skubal admittedly has been just OK in his two starts since the deal, but I think Dave Roberts manages this like a playoff game because it has potential playoff home-field ramifications. The winner tonight wins the season series and that could be massive ... and I trust Skubal more than I do Logan Henderson even if Hendo is having a fine season too. Good spot for -1 if want to bring this down.

    Analysis

    San Jose State went 3-9 last year, with the worst performances in their last three games. Coach Ken Niumatalolo only had two starters return, and they're both offensive linemen. Now he's got to face a USC team in the opener that is loaded this season, with nine starters back on offense, including senior quarterback Jayden Maiava, and five on defense. They have all five starters on the offensive line returning, and that's the biggest component I look at in these opening games. The cohesion is gonna be there, and apparently the boosters money is also there, as they had the No. 1 recruiting class in college football. I think USC could be the next Indiana this year. USC shows off for the nation.
