  • Red Sox's Brayan Bello: Nabs win in first quality start

Bello (3-1) picked up the win Friday, scattering one hit and two walks over six scoreless innings in an 8-1 rout of the Pirates. He struck out seven.

Bryan Reynolds made it to third base in the first inning after a walk and an error by Ceddanne Rafaela, but he was the only Pittsburgh runner to get past second against Bello. The right-hander retired the final 11 batters he faced in a dominant outing as he recorded his first quality start of 2024. He'll take a 3.04 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 26:7 K:BB through 26.2 innings into his next start, which lines up to come in Cleveland next week.

  • Red Sox's Brayan Bello: Fans eight in win

Bello (2-1) picked up the win Sunday, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks over 5.1 innings against the Angels. He struck out eight.

Bello nearly doubled his season strikeout total Sunday, punching out eight batters after entering the game with 11 total strikeouts through his first three starts. While he surrendered a solo home run to Brandon Drury in the second inning, Bello finished with two earned runs or less for the third time in 2024. The 25-year-old righty is tentatively slated to pitch Friday against the Pirates.

  • Red Sox's Brayan Bello: Stuck with first loss

Bello (1-1) took the loss versus the Orioles on Tuesday, allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out three.

Bello was solid for the most part Tuesday. However, Jarren Duran would misplay a fly ball with two outs in the fourth inning before Colton Cowser ripped a two-run double, tagging Bello with a pair of unearned runs that proved to be enough to stick him with the loss. It's been an up-and-down start to the year for Bello -- he now sports a 4.11 ERA with a 1.11 WHIP and 11:3 K:BB through his first three outings (15.1 innings). Bello's currently lined up for a home matchup with the Angels on Sunday.

  • Red Sox's Brayan Bello: Allows four in no-decision

Bello did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing four runs on five hits and a walk over five innings against Oakland. He struck out six.

All four of the runs charged to Bello came on a pair of two-run homers, one in the second inning off the bat of Shea Langeliers followed by a JJ Bleday blast in the third. The 24-year-old Bello's now allowed six earned runs through his first 10 innings this season after going 12-11 with a 4.24 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 132:45 K:BB last year. He's currently lined up to face Baltimore in the Red Sox home opener next Tuesday.

  • Red Sox's Brayan Bello: Nabs Opening Day victory

Bello (1-0) earned the win against Seattle on Thursday, allowing two runs on five hits and no walks while striking out two batters over five innings.

Bello wasn't overpowering in the outing, notching just eight swinging strikes and two punchouts, but he got key outs when needed and kept the Mariners off the board in four of his five frames. The 24-year-old earned his first Opening Day start after posting a 12-11 record in his second MLB campaign last year, though his 7.6 K/9 and 4.24 ERA aren't typical of an ace. As Bello showed Thursday, he has the skill set to get big-league hitters out and limit damage when runners reach base, but fantasy managers are unlikely to see him as more than rotation filler as long as his punchout numbers remain low.

  • Red Sox's Brayan Bello: Strong spring finish

Bello allowed one run on five hits and three walks while striking out seven over 5.1 innings in Saturday's spring start against the Pirates.

Bello hit the 91-pitch mark and finished his spring with a pair of strong outings following a shaky start. His spring ERA was at 6.75 after three starts, but Bello allowed two runs while striking out 12 over his final 10.1 innings. Next up for the 24-year-old righty is an Opening Day start, which will take place Thursday on the road in Seattle.
