Red Sox's Kutter Crawford: Facing hitters soon
Crawford (knee) threw an "up-and-down" bullpen session Friday, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
Crawford's next step is expected to be a live batting practice session, which would be his first time facing hitters since he was diagnosed with right patellar tendinopathy. There is still no timetable for Crawford's return to the Boston rotation, but a rehab assignment shouldn't be too far off.

Red Sox's Kutter Crawford: Still not facing hitters

The Red Sox placed Crawford on the 15-day injured list Thursday with right patellar tendiopathy, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

Red Sox's Kutter Crawford: Bullpens on schedule
Crawford (knee) is scheduled to throw bullpen sessions Tuesday and Friday of next week, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
Crawford has thrown a few low-intensity bullpens this spring to avoid aggravating the knee, but next week's sessions will be at normal effort. Given the amount of time he'll need to build up, Crawford is expected to miss the start of the regular season and likely all of April.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Tuesday that Crawford (knee) is feeling better but has not progressed with his baseball activities, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.
Crawford will not be ready for Opening Day as he battles patellar tendon soreness and things look to be trending toward longer than a minimum stay on the 15-day injured list. Red Sox's Kutter Crawford: Status for Opening Day uncertain
Manager Alex Cora said Saturday that Crawford (knee) isn't certain to be ready to pitch by Opening Day, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Crawford has been experiencing patellar tendon soreness and is consequently behind schedule, though he did throw a bullpen session Friday. Despite that mound session, it's unclear if the right-hander will be fully ramped up by the time the regular season starts. Per Cotillo, Cora said of Crawford, "With Kutter, that's the one it looks like is going to be long. Opening Day, right now, is an 'if.' Let's see what happens." The Red Sox are already dealing with rotation issues, as Brayan Bello is also behind schedule due to a shoulder injury.

Red Sox's Kutter Crawford: Throws bullpen session
Crawford (knee) threw a bullpen session Friday, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
Crawford has been eased into things early on in Red Sox camp as he tries to get past patellar tendon soreness, and it's a good sign that he's been cleared for mound work. The right-hander should have enough time to ramp up before Opening Day as he looks to lock down a rotation spot.

The knee soreness for Crawford cropped up at some point during the offseason. It's not clear at this point how long he might be set back, but the Red Sox believe there's a good chance Crawford will be ready in time for Opening Day. If healthy, the right-hander is one of six starter candidates for the Red Sox' rotation.

Red Sox's Kutter Crawford: Avoids arbitration with Boston
The Red Sox and Crawford avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2.75 million contract Thursday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Crawford reached Super 2 status, so he will receive a substantial pay bump. The right-hander made 33 starts for the Red Sox in 2024, finishing with a 4.36 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 175:51 K:BB across 183.2 frames. Crawford should open the season in Boston's rotation, though he could be the odd man out depending how the rest of the offseason and spring training unfold.
