Top Zach Edey News

  • Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Struggles in 26 minutes

Edey had four points (2-3 FG), seven rebounds, three assists and two blocks over 26 minutes during Tuesday's 118-99 loss to the Thunder in Game 2 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.

Outside of Jaren Jackson's performance in Game 2, Memphis hasn't gotten much out of their frontcourt in this series. In his first two playoff appearances, Edey has averaged a mere 4.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 blocks on 50.0 percent shooting in 23.0 minutes per contest. It wouldn't be a surprise to see some rotation changes for Game 3.

  • Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Top rebounder in blowout defeat

Edey closed Sunday's 131-80 loss to Oklahoma City in Game 1 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs with four points (2-5 FG, 0-1 FT), nine rebounds and one assist in 20 minutes.

Edey had a quiet outing offensively in Sunday's Game 1, but he led the way on the glass by pacing all Grizzlies in rebounds and finishing one board shy of the double-digit mark. Edey was strong on the boards for Memphis during the regular season, hauling in nine or more rebounds in 29 contests. Look for Edey to continue to be a big part of the Grizzlies' effort to try and control the glass against a talented Thunder squad.

  • Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Another double-double Friday

Edey contributed 15 points (7-9 FG, 1-3 FT), 11 rebounds, one assist and two blocks in 32 minutes during Friday's 120-106 Play-In Game win over Dallas.

Edey continues to play his best basketball of the season, recording his second straight double-double. He has now logged at least 30 minutes in five consecutive games, playing typical starters minutes after consistency had been an issue throughout his rookie campaign. With Brandon Clarke (knee) unavailable for the remainder of the season, Edey has been thrust into a more sizeable role. In 13 games over the past month, he has averaged 10.3 points, 11.8 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 26.4 minutes per game. He should continue to play a crucial role when the Grizzlies take on the Thunder in the first round of the playoffs, a team that has the ability to play big, with the likes of Chet Holmgren and Isaiah Hartenstein.

  • Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Big double-double against Dubs

Edey closed Tuesday's 121-116 Play-In Game loss to the Warriors with 14 points (4-11 FG, 6-8 FT), 17 rebounds and two assists in 33 minutes.

The rookie center once again dominated the glass. Edey has pulled down at least 16 boards in five of seven appearances since the beginning of April, but Tuesday's game was the first during that stretch in which he didn't record at least one block. Edey will likely need to continue coming up big in the paint Friday as the Grizzlies get one more chance to secure a playoff spot.

  • Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Getting starting nod

Edey is in the starting five for Tuesday's Play-In Game against the Warriors, Anthony Slater of The Athletic reports.

Edey will reclaim his starting center spot from Marvin Bagley on Tuesday after missing Memphis' regular-season finale due to an ankle injury. Against Golden State's small-ball lineup, the 7-foot-4 rookie will have a significant size advantage.

  • Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Off report for Play-In Game

Edey (ankle) is off the injury report for Tuesday's Play-In Game against the Warriors.

Edey is set to return to game action after missing Sunday's win over the Mavericks in Memphis' regular-season finale. The rookie big man has started in each of his last eight appearances, averaging 9.3 points, 13.4 rebounds, 1.8 blocks and 1.4 assists across 27.8 minutes per contest in that span.

  • Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Not playing Sunday

Edey (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Mavericks.

Edey will be held out of the Grizzlies' regular-season finale due to an ankle injury, but it shouldn't impact his availability for the Play-In Tournament if Memphis doesn't finish in the top six of the Western Conference standings. With Edey, Jaren Jackson (back) and Santi Aldama (ankle) all out Sunday, Jay Huff and Marvin Bagley will serve as the Grizzlies' top big men.

  • Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Grabs 16 boards in loss

Edey racked up eight points (3-4 FG, 2-4 FT), 16 rebounds, one assist, two blocks and one steal in 33 minutes during Friday's 117-109 loss to Denver.

Edey continues to dominate the glass, hauling down at least 16 rebounds for the third time in the past four games. His role has solidified following a season-ending knee injury to Brandon Clarke. Edey has now played at least 28 minutes in six consecutive games, serving as more of a typical starting center.

  • Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Uncertain status for Sunday

Edey is doubtful for Sunday's game against the Mavericks due to left ankle soreness.

The Grizzlies have already locked up a spot in the Play-In Tournament, so there's no point in risking some of their regular rotation members. This is particularly noteworthy with Edey, who has a frame that needs to be taken care of due to his size. The doubtful tag suggests Edey might not play, though. If he ends up being ruled out, then Jay Huff, Marvin Bagley and Lamar Stevens could be in line to see more minutes in the frontcourt.

  • Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Dominates glass in victory

Edey amassed 17 points (7-9 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 3-4 FT), 19 rebounds, one block and three steals over 31 minutes during Tuesday's 124-100 victory over the Hornets.

Edey has been a glass-crashing machine as of late, averaging 17.3 boards per contest across his last four outings. The rookie big man isn't quite a consistent double-double threat due to his inconsistent scoring output, but he was Memphis' third-leading scorer Tuesday. Edey has also blocked at least one shot in each of his last seven appearances.

  • Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Grabs career-high 21 rebounds

Edey registered six points (3-8 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 0-2 FT), 21 rebounds, six assists and one block across 29 minutes during Saturday's 109-103 victory over the Pistons.

Although Edey rarely sees enough shot volume to make a meaningful mark on the offensive end, his rebounding numbers have been elevated of late. In his past four games, Edey is averaging 13.0 rebounds per game, which is weighted down by a two-board performance in Monday's 117-103 loss to Boston.

  • Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Pulls down 16 rebounds Tuesday

Edey contributed 10 points (4-7 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-3 FT), 16 rebounds, one assist and four blocks across 32 minutes during Tuesday's 134-125 loss to Golden State.

Edey recorded a double-double for the second time across his last three starts, and the rookie big man continues to show he can be an imposing presence on the defensive end, either on the glass or as a rim protector. The offensive game is slowly coming around, but there's no question Edey has improved drastically since the start of the season, even if his numbers don't tell the whole story. The rookie is averaging 9.1 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game since the All-Star break.

  • Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Double-doubles in defeat

Edey accumulated 14 points (7-10 FG, 0-2 FT), 11 rebounds, three blocks, two assists and one steal across 26 minutes during Saturday's 134-127 loss to the Lakers.

Edey made his return to the starting five on Saturday, recording his 10th double-double over 59 regular-season appearances. The 23-year-old also tallied a game-high three blocks, marking his fifth outing with multiple swats this month. Over his last five outings (two starts), the rookie first-round pick has averaged 10.2 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.0 blocks across 18.4 minutes per contest.

  • Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Starting against Lakers

Edey will start Saturday's game against the Lakers.

Edey will replace Santi Aldama in the first unit with the Grizzlies looking to shake things up after a blowout loss to the Thunder. As a starter this season, Edey holds averages of 8.7 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.2 blocks.

  • Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Posts 15 points in blowout

Edey accumulated 15 points (5-8 FG, 2-2 3Pt, 3-3 FT), seven rebounds, two assists and two steals across 21 minutes during Tuesday's 140-103 victory over the Jazz.

Although Jay Huff got the first crack at absorbing Jaren Jackson's missing production, Edey took over and contributed seven points in the fourth quarter. Although Edey has been relegated to backup duty, he has the ability to rack up rebounds quickly when given the opportunity.

  • Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Moving back to bench role

Edey is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Clippers, Tomer Azarly of ClutchPoints.com reports.

The Grizzlies have decided to tweak things in their frontcourt for this game, and Edey will move to a bench role since the starting frontcourt will feature Santi Aldama and Jaren Jackson. Edey is averaging 9.6 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game across 10 appearances in March.

  • Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Struggles in loss

Edey provided six points (2-4 FG, 2-2 FT), three rebounds and two assists across 11 minutes during Wednesday's 115-99 loss to Portland.

Edey and Donovan Clingan started opposite each other, summoning memories of last year's NCAA Championship game. Clingan had Edey's number during Wednesday's loss, as foul trouble limited the rookie to only 11 minutes on the floor. Brandon Clarke (knee) went down with an injury during the game, which may require a usage increase from Edey if the injury keeps Clarke out.
