Hornets' Grant Williams: Ruled out Sunday
Williams has been ruled out of Sunday's preseason opener against the Knicks due to a minor hamstring injury, Roderick Boone of The Charlotte Observer reports.
Williams tweaked his hamstring near the end of training camp and his status for a return to game action is unclear. The injury is minor, but the club could look to work the 25-year-old back to form slowly until Opening Night. Williams' next opportunity to feature will come Tuesday versus the Heat.

Hornets' Nick Smith: To be reevaluated in one week
Smith sustained a left groin injury during training camp that will cause him to miss Sunday's preseason opener against the Knicks, and he is set to be reevaluated in one week.
Smith sustained the injury near the end of training camp, and it is unclear whether he will be back for Opening Night of the regular season. The 20-year-old is coming off a decent but somewhat inconsistent rookie season, during which he averaged 5.9 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists across 14.3 minutes per game in 51 regular-season outings. If Smith is out for an extended period of time, KJ Simpson and Vasilije Micic are both candidates to pick up minutes off the bench.

Hornets' Cody Martin: Considered day-to-day
Martin is considered day-to-day and will miss Sunday's preseason opener against the Knicks due to a thumb laceration and sprained right wrist.
Martin injured himself on a block attempt during training camp. The 29-year-old is expected to be back for Opening Night, but he will likely be considered day-to-day through the rest of the preseason. Martin will likely serve as a backup wing while competing for playing time with Tidjane Salaun, Tre Mann and Seth Curry.

Hornets' Cody Martin: Cleared to play
Martin (ankle) was able to go through Tuesday's practice to open training camp.
Martin is coming off another injury-plagued season with the Hornets. He appeared in 28 games during the 2023-24 campaign and averaged 7.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.0 three-pointers in 26.9 minutes per game. The Hornets love his versatility, and he's likely to have a decent role off the bench if he can stay on the floor.

Hornets' Seth Curry: Goes through practice
Curry (ankle) participated in Tuesday's practice to open training camp.
Curry missed the end of the 2023-24 campaign with a right ankle sprain, but there's been no report of any limitations to open camp. Curry made eight appearances after being acquired from Dallas, posting averages of 9.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists. He'll likely be competing for a minor role in the backcourt with the Hornets getting a lot of healthy bodies back, including LaMelo Ball.

Hornets' Nick Richards: Cleared for camp
Richards (foot) was able to go through Tuesday's practice to open training camp.
Richards missed the season finale due to right plantar fascia discomfort, but that was considered a day-to-day issue at the time. Mark Williams is currently battling a foot injury, so Richards could see a ton of reps in the preseason. In 67 appearances during the 2023-24 regular season, Richards averaged 9.7 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 26.3 minutes.

Hornets' Grant Williams: Goes through practice
Williams (ankle) was able to go through Tuesday's practice to open training camp.
Williams missed the final two games with an ankle injury to end his 2023-24 campaign. The 25-year-old fared well for Charlotte during the regular season, averaging 13.9 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 30.6 minutes per game. Charlotte is much healthier this time around, however, so it will be interesting to see what type of role Williams is able to carve out for himself.

Hornets' Miles Bridges: Participating in camp
Bridges (wrist) was spotted going through Tuesday's practice to open training camp.
Bridges missed the Hornets' season finale April 14 with a wrist injury, but it was likely a precaution with the team having nothing to play for. Bridges has a fresh three-year, $75 million contract with the Hornets, though his usage rate could take a hit this season with LaMelo Ball healthy and Brandon Miller potentially ready for a larger role.

Hornets' Duane Washington: Shipped to Charlotte
The Knicks have traded Washington, DaQuan Jeffries, Charlie Brown and three second-round picks to the Hornets in exchange for James Nnaji in order to compete a three-team deal that sent Karl-Anthony Towns to New York and Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo to Minnesota, Fred Katz of The Athletic reports.
Washington hasn't made an NBA appearance since the 2022-23 season for Phoenix. He is expected to be waived and could rejoin EuroLeague club Partizan in Belgrade, Serbia.

Hornets' Charlie Brown: Dealt to Charlotte
The Knicks traded Brown, DaQuan Jeffries and Duane Washington, along with three second-round picks to the Hornets in exchange for James Nnaji to help complete the three-team trade that sent Karl-Anthony Towns to New York and Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo to Minnesota, Fred Katz of The Athletic reports.
Brown presumably is included in this deal as a sign-and-trade, as the Knicks didn't extend him a two-way qualifying offer earlier this offseason. Brown made just eight regular-season appearances for New York in 2023-24, and he will likely compete for a regular-season roster spot in Charlotte.

Hornets' LaMelo Ball: Cleared to play
Hornets head coach Charles Lee said Monday that Ball (ankle) is ready for training camp, Nick Carboni of WCNC reports.
Ball will be sporting braces on both ankles as a preventative measure early this season, as he's struggled to stay on the floor in recent campaigns. Ball said Monday that his ankles are feeling great and that he likes the feeling of the braces. Health is a big question mark for prospective fantasy managers, but Ball's upside is through the roof.

Hornets' DaQuan Jeffries: Shipped to Charlotte
The Knicks have traded Jeffries and draft compensation to the Hornets as part of a three-team deal that will send Karl-Anthony Towns to New York and Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo to Minnesota, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
Jeffries is likely being included in this deal mostly as a salary filler. In 2023-24, the 27-year-old forward averaged 2.7 minutes across 17 regular-season appearances. Jeffries is not expected to be heavily featured in Charlotte's rotation.

Hornets' Mark Williams: Strains tendon in foot
Williams (back) has suffered a tendon strain in his left foot and will be re-evaluated in two weeks, Tim Bontemps of ESPN.com reports.
Williams played only 19 games during the 2022-2023 season due to a back injury. He was seemingly on track for a healthy training camp before this new injury. The big man projects to start at center for Charlotte when healthy, but it now looks like he will miss most of training camp. Look for the Hornets to err on the side of caution with the big man to avoid another season of lingering injuries. Nick Richards would be primed for a large workload if Williams isn't ready to begin the campaign.

Hornets' Harry Giles: Joins Charlotte
Giles signed a one-year contract with the Hornets on Sunday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
The No. 20 overall pick in 2017, Giles has struggled to carve out a role in the NBA. He made 23 regular-season appearances -- split between the Lakers and Nets -- last year, his first action since 2020. Giles will compete for an Opening Night roster spot in Charlotte but has an uphill battle, as Mark Williams, Nick Richards and Taj Gibson figure to have the upper hand heading into training camp.

Hornets' Caleb McConnell: Joins Charlotte for camp
McConnell signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Hornets on Wednesday, Roderick Boone of The Charlotte Observer reports.
A two-time Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year at Rutgers, McConnell spent the 2023-24 season with the G League's Oklahoma City Blue. McConnell will join the Hornets for training camp to compete for a final roster spot, but he'll most likely end up with the Greensboro Swarm.

Hornets' Marcus Garrett: Signs deal with Charlotte
Garrett and the Hornets agreed to an Exhibit 10 contract Wednesday, Roderick Boone of The Charlotte Observer reports.
Garrett will join the Hornets for training camp and is likely going to end up playing for the G League's Greensboro Swarm. Since graduating from Kansas in 2021, Garrett has spent most of his time in the G League, but he did make 12 NBA appearances for the Heat on a two-way contract as a rookie.
