Jets backup QB Tim Tebow is joined in post-game prayer by several teammates and even a few of the rival 49ers. After Sunday's game, the Jets will need a lot more than prayers to turn things around. (US Presswire)

The Jets lost 34-0 at home to the 49ers in a blowout that had coach Rex Ryan fuming. Nothing went right all day for the Jets, who couldn’t get anything going on either offense or defense. On offense they couldn’t run the ball, and on defense they couldn’t stop the run. Special teams did nothing overly helpful, either.

Offense: F

Once again, the running game was in hiding. RB Shonn Greene is the usual starting back, but RB Bilal Powell started this game. It didn’t matter who was on the field, though. The team rushed for a grand total of 45 yards. QB Mark Sanchez was able to put up only 103 yards (13-29), was intercepted once and fumbled once. The fact that they put up zero points says it all.

Defense: F

Where is the tackling? This is supposed to be a team that can win games with its defense. It’s not going to happen if they can’t tackle. The Jets gave up 245 rushing yards, the most since Ryan became head coach. Although they practice against Tim Tebow and the wildcat every day, they got beaten at their own game, allowing 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick to rush five times for 50 yards and a touchdown.

The 49ers blocked a punt by P Robert Malone that they didn’t even call. 49ers LB Larry Grant simply saw an opening, got loose and made the call on his own. RB Joe McKnight did manage two decent punt returns, but that was it. The Jets never even got close enough for K Nick Folk to make an attempt.

Coaching: F

A 34-0 loss clearly shows there were issues with the play calling. The Jets can’t figure out ways to put up yards, and they can’t figure out how to stop their opponents. Offensive coordinator Tony Sparano can’t get his own signature wildcat play to be effective. If they don’t find a way to fix these things, it certainly won’t go any better against the Texans next Monday night.
