Rams' Jordan Whittington: Not playing Thursday
Whittington (shoulder) has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Vikings, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.
Whittington earned some sway in a Rams passing game missing Puka Nacua (knee) since Week 1 and Cooper Kupp (ankle) since Week 2, culminating with 13 combined catches (on 18 targets) for 151 yards between Weeks 4 and 5. However, Whittington emerged from a Week 5 loss to the Packers with a shoulder injury, and even with the benefit of a Week 6 bye, he handled just nine offensive snaps and wasn't targeted this past Sunday versus the Raiders. Now that Whittington is out Week 8, Kupp will be available, Nacua is listed as questionable but remains on injured reserve, and Tutu Atwell, Demarcus Robinson, Tyler Johnson and Xavier Smith all are healthy, which may not leave much work for Whittington once he gets healthy.

Rams' Jordan Whittington: Returns to practice Tuesday
Whittington (shoulder) was a limited participant in Tuesday's practice session, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.
Whittington played through a shoulder injury during the Rams' Week 7 win over the Raiders, though he finished the game with zero targets. The rookie sixth-round pick was listed as a DNP on Monday's practice estimate, but he was able to see the field during Tuesday's session. Barring any setbacks, he should be good to go for Thursday's game against the Vikings, though Whittington would likely see his offensive snaps significantly decrease should Puka Nacua (knee) and/or Cooper Kupp (ankle) return.

Rams' Jordan Whittington: Estimated as non-participant
Whittington (shoulder) was listed as a non-participant on Monday's practice estimate, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
Per Stu Jackson of the Rams' official site, coach Sean McVay noted Monday that Whittington being limited to nine snaps on offense versus the Raiders on Sunday was a result of the wideout not being able to practice a lot last week due to his shoulder injury. With that in mind, McVay added that he hopes Whittington will have "a little bit more of a workload" Thursday night against the Vikings.

Whittington returned from a minor shoulder injury suffered in the Rams' previous contest, but he did not see his role elevated despite the team missing multiple key receivers. Whittington came out of the Rams' last contest Week 5 with a shoulder injury, but he seemingly benefited from the team's ensuing bye, parlaying three limited practices into a questionable designation and eventual active status. Fellow WR Cooper Kupp made an effort to return from the left high-ankle sprain that has sidelined him since the first half of Week 2 but ultimately will log a fourth straight DNP. Whittington thus will have plenty of opportunities in L.A.'s passing game along with Tutu Atwell, Demarcus Robinson and Tyler Johnson.

During Kupp's absence in the Rams' last two games, Whittington emerged as quarterback Matt Stafford's go-to option. The rookie out of Texas racked up 18 targets between those two contests and produced a 13-151-0 receiving line.

Whittington drew 18 targets in the final two games before a Week 6 bye, handling a near-every-down role alongside wideouts Demarcus Robinson and Tutu Atwell. Kupp's return would obviously complicate things, at least in terms of projected target volume if not automatically playing time.

Cooper Kupp, on the other hand, is considered truly questionable due to the left high-ankle sprain that's held him out since Week 2. Whittington suffered a shoulder injury Week 5, right before a bye week, and it seems he'll avoid any missed time. He drew 18 targets over the past two games but wouldn't be likely to approach that volume with Kupp back in the lineup.

Whittington now has put together back-to-back capped sessions out of the Rams' Week 6 bye due to a shoulder injury that he sustained Week 5 against the Packers. Friday's practice report likely will give a sense of Whittington's odds to suit up Sunday versus the Raiders, a contest in which fellow WR Cooper Kupp (ankle), who also has been limited Wednesday and Thursday, may return to action. If both players are able to play this weekend, Whittington likely would take a step back in terms of target share.
