He has now logged at least one hit in seven of his last 10 outings, slashing .306/.375/.611 with nine runs scored, eight RBI, three homers and two doubles across 40 plate appearances in that span.

The 32-year-old third baseman has recorded six home runs this season, ranking second on the Giants behind Wilmer Flores. However, Chapman has struggled to make consistent contact recently, slashing .139/.225/.333 with two home runs, a double and a 35.0 percent strikeout rate across 40 plate appearances over his last 10 games.

  • Giants' Matt Chapman: Swipes bag in win

Chapman went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Rangers. Chapman has struggled a bit at the plate lately, going just 3-for-23 (.130) with a 6:6 BB:K in that span. The third baseman is batting a modest .221 with an .804 OPS, five home runs, four steals, 16 RBI, 14 runs scored and four doubles over 28 games. Chapman's 20.8 percent walk rate is more than double his 10.0 percent mark from last season -- while this may be a bit of a small-sample fluke, his early success drawing free passes has helped offset a small drop batting average.

  • Giants' Matt Chapman: Move to paternity list official

The Giants officially placed Chapman (personal) on the paternity list Wednesday. Chapman left the team prior to Tuesday's 10-0 win over the Orioles to observe the birth of his child, but the Giants waited until Wednesday before officially deactivating him. Casey Schmitt was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento to provide some infield depth in the short term. Per MLB rules, Chapman will be away from the Giants for at least one game and as many as three while on the paternity list, so expected him to rejoin the club no later than Saturday.

  • Giants' Matt Chapman: Staying in San Francisco long term

Chapman and the Giants agreed to terms on a six-year contract extension Wednesday. Per Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times, Chapman will earn $25 million per year from 2025 to 2030 along with a one-time $1 million signing bonus. His previous contract, a one-year deal for 2024, included options in each of the next three years, but those will no longer be necessary. Chapman's been a boost for the Giants in his first year with the team, producing a .247/.333/.445 slash line, 22 home runs, 69 RBI, 90 runs scored, 33 doubles, one triple and 13 stolen bases over 136 contests this season. He was scratched from the lineup ahead of Wednesday's game, but he is not dealing with an injury and should be back in the starting nine for Thursday's series finale versus the Diamondbacks.
