  • Reds' Yosver Zulueta: Sent back to minors

The Reds optioned Zulueta to Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday.

Zulueta made his major-league debut in Tuesday's 9-5 loss to the Pirates, striking out four and allowing one run over a three-inning relief appearance. He'll head back to Louisville to make space on the roster for Graham Ashcraft, who has been recalled from Louisville to start Wednesday's series finale versus Pittsburgh.

  • Reds' Yosver Zulueta: Summoned to majors

The Reds recalled Zulueta from Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday.

It's the first major-league promotion for Zulueta, who holds a 2.84 ERA with 40 strikeouts over 31.2 innings this season at Louisville. The 26-year-old also posted a 14.5 percent walk rate at Louisville, so he'll have to show he can consistently find the strike zone before the Reds trust him in high-leverage situations.

  • Reds' Yosver Zulueta: Ready for MLB debut

The Reds are expected to recall Zulueta from Triple-A Louisville prior to Tuesday's game against the Pirates, sources tell Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com.

Once a top pitching prospect in the Blue Jays system, Zulueta's development was sidetracked by Tommy John surgery in 2019 and a right knee injury that kept him out for most of the 2021 season. He was cast off the Blue Jays' 40-man roster in March and was scooped up by the Reds, who optioned him to Louisville coming out of spring training. The 26-year-old righty has thrived out of the Triple-A bullpen this season, riding an upper-90s fastball and plus slider to a 2.84 ERA and 40 punchouts over 31.2 innings. Zulueta has exhibited some control problems both this season (14.5 percent walk rate) and throughout his minor-league career, so the Reds may be inclined to deploy him in lower-leverage spots initially.

  • Blue Jays' Yosver Zulueta: Removed from 40-man roster

The Blue Jays designated Zulueta for assignment Thursday, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports.

Zulueta lost his place on the 40-man roster with the Blue Jays needing to clear a spot for backup catcher Brian Serven ahead of Thursday's season opener versus the Rays. The 26-year-old right-hander has a big arm, but his control problems could scare teams off from taking a chance on him via waivers.

  • Reds' Yosver Zulueta: Claimed by Cincy

The Reds claimed Zulueta off waivers from Toronto on Thursday and optioned him to Triple-A Louisville.

Zulueta struggled during spring training, surrendering six runs over five innings while striking out two batters and walking four. He'll find a spot on Cincinnati's 40-man roster anyway and head to Louisville to give the Reds some extra organizational bullpen depth. Matt McLain (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Blue Jays' Yosver Zulueta: Moving to minor-league camp

The Blue Jays optioned Zulueta to Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday.

Zulueta worked as both a starter and reliever at Triple-A Buffalo last season, and he finished with a 4.08 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 73:45 K:BB across 64 innings. The 26-year-old was once a top pitching prospect for Toronto, but the shine has worn off a bit over the past year due to his persistent walk issues.

  • Blue Jays' Yosver Zulueta: Sent to minors by TOR

Zulueta was optioned Monday to minor-league camp by the Blue Jays, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Zulueta came up short in his bid to make the Toronto roster out of camp despite not allowing a run with a 3:2 K:BB in his three Grapefruit League appearances. The hard-throwing 25-year-old could be one of the first arms that the Blue Jays turn to early this season, as he's ranked as one of the top pitching prospects in their system.

  • Blue Jays' Yosver Zulueta: Could win bullpen spot

Zulueta has a chance to win a spot in the big-league bullpen this spring, MLB Pipeline reports.

Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic had the same report a month ago, and it makes sense as Toronto is in win-now mode and Zulueta's fastball/slider combo could give big-league hitters fits in the short term. The Blue Jays continues to say they view Zulueta as a starter long term, but he walked 18 batters in 20 innings across Double-A and Triple-A last season, so he may fit better as a high-leverage reliever.

  • Blue Jays' Yosver Zulueta: Added to 40-man roster

Zulueta was added to Toronto's 40-man roster Tuesday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

The Blue Jays elected to protect Zulueta from the upcoming Rule 5 draft since he's one of the organization's top pitching prospects. The 24-year-old opened the 2022 campaign at Single-A Dunedin but was able to move his way up to Triple-A Buffalo by the end of the season. Overall he had a 3.72 ERA with 84 strikeouts across 55.2 frames.

  • Blue Jays' Yosver Zulueta: Returns from IL

Zulueta (knee/shoulder) has struck out eight while allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits and three walks over four innings in his three appearances since being reinstated from Double-A New Hampshire's 7-day injured list Sept. 4.

The 24-year-old righty was on the shelf for about a month while nursing the two injuries. He's turned in a 3.77 ERA and 24:13 K:BB in 14.1 innings since moving up to New Hampshire from High-A Vancouver in late June.

  • Blue Jays' Yosver Zulueta: Battling knee, shoulder injuries

Zulueta was placed on the 7-day injured list at Double-A New Hampshire on Friday due to right knee inflammation and shoulder soreness, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Zulueta hasn't seen the field for the Fisher Cats since Aug. 2, and he'll now be sidelined for at least another week. The 24-year-old was promoted to Double-A in late June and has a 4.35 ERA and 16:10 K:BB across 10.1 innings. It's unclear if he'll spend more than the minimum of seven days on the shelf.

  • Blue Jays' Yosver Zulueta: Moving up to Double-A

The Blue Jays promoted Zulueta from High-A Vancouver to Double-A New Hampshire on Sunday, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

New Hampshire will mark the third stop of the season for Zulueta, who began the campaign at Single-A Dunedin before moving up to Vancouver. Between the two affiliates, the 24-year-old Cuban right-hander produced a 3.53 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 35.2 innings while striking out 54 and holding opposing hitters to a .208 batting average. According to Zwelling, Zulueta will continue to make regular starts for New Hampshire and could eventually join the Blue Jays later this season as a multi-inning option out of the bullpen.

  • Blue Jays' Yosver Zulueta: Recovers from torn ACL

Zulueta (knee) reported to the Blue Jays' minor-league spring training camp at full health after missing the majority of the 2021 season with a torn ACL, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

After signing with the Blue Jays as an amateur free agent in 2019, Zulueta wasn't cleared to make his professional debut until last season while he continued to recover from Tommy John surgery. In a cruel twist of fate, he tore his ACL in his lone start with Low-A Dunedin last year, once again robbing him of some meaningful development time. Fortunately for Zulueta, he seems to have made a full recovery from the knee procedure. Matheson notes that the 24-year-old's fastball has been checking in at around 96 miles per hour during his throwing sessions this week, down only a few ticks from his peak of 99 mph last spring. Zulueta is expected to resume facing live hitters Friday for the first time since May 2021.

The 23-year-old was making his professional debut at Low-A Dunedin on Wednesday, and he suffered the knee injury while covering first base during the first inning. It's a tough break for Zulueta, who only recently returned from Tommy John surgery and will now have to look toward retaking the field in 2022.
