  • Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Not in Friday's lineup

Clement is not in the lineup for Friday's contest versus the Tigers. Clement had started each of the previous seven tilts at second base but will take a seat for Friday's series opener. Michael Stefanic is at the keystone and batting eighth for the Blue Jays.

  • Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Swats home run in loss

Clement went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a double in Tuesday's loss to the Rays. Clement led off the bottom of the seventh with a solo home run for his first homer of the season. He's now registered at least a hit in seven straight games and has 10 hits in his last 20 at-bats. Clement's recent excellent play has raised his average over 50 points in the last week, as he's slashing .275/.302/.367 with eight extra-base hits, eight RBI, 11 runs, two steals and a 5:19 BB:K in 118 plate appearances.

  • Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Three hits against M's

Clement went 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI in Sunday's win over the Mariners. The 29-year-old utility player has started four straight games at second base since Andres Gimenez (quadriceps) landed on the IL, and Clement has gone an impressive 8-for-16 during that span with a steal, two RBI and three runs. All eight hits have been singles however, and he's still looking for his first homer of 2025 after launching 12 in 139 games last season. With Addison Barger also heating up while getting regular run at third base and offering a lot more upside in an everyday role, Clement could have a hard time finding consistent at-bats once Gimenez returns.

  • Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Swipes bag in Saturday's win

Clement went 1-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Mariners. Clement's playing time was on the decline about a week ago, but he should be able to see steady at-bats while Andres Gimenez (quadriceps) is on the 10-day injured list. Over his last five contests, Clement has helped his own case to stay in the lineup by going 7-for-20 (.350). The versatile infielder is batting .248 with a .587 OPS, no home runs, six RBI, nine runs scored, two steals and six doubles over 109 plate appearances. Clement has started all three games at second base since Gimenez was injured, allowing Addison Barger to take over at third, at least against right-handed pitchers.

  • Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Beginning to lose playing time

Clement is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians. Clement will take a seat for the second game in a row and could be moving into more of a part-time role against right-handed pitching while the Blue Jays look to open up more playing time at third base for Addison Barger, who draws the start Sunday. Barger is capable of playing the corner outfield as well, so Clement could see his opportunities against right-handed pitching pick up if he performs well enough to warrant more at-bats. Clement has thus far offered little to get excited about for fantasy purposes, slashing just .225/.259/.275 with zero home runs and one steal over 86 plate appearances on the season.

  • Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Resting Saturday

Clement isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Guardians. Clement will get a day off Saturday after making four consecutive starts, during which he went 3-for-14 with a run scored. Addison Barger will fill in at the hot corner and bat sixth.

  • Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Sitting for Game 2

Clement is not in the starting lineup for Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader against the Yankees. Clement will head to the bench after he went 1-for-4 in the team's 11-2 matinee loss Sunday. Will Wagner will take over at the hot corner and bat sixth in the nightcap versus New York.

  • Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Not in Toronto lineup

Clement is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game in Houston. Clement started the first two games of the series but will grab a seat for Wednesday's finale after going 1-for-6 with a strikeout. Will Wagner is at third base and batting eighth as the Blue Jays try to avoid the sweep.

  • Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Taking seat Monday

Clement is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Red Sox. Clement will head to the bench for the series opener after he picked up starts in four of the past five games. Though he'll likely have a regular spot in the lineup against lefties, Clement may have to settle for more of a part-time role against right-handed pitching while the Blue Jays often deploy Will Wagner at third base and rotate other players at designated hitter in those matchups.

  • Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Sitting again Monday

Clement is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Nationals. Clement has now hit the bench three times through the Blue Jays' first five games. All of his absences have come against right-handed pitching, so Clement may be viewed as more of a part-time player even after performing at a better-than-league-average level versus righties in 2024 (.312 wOBA, 104 wRC+). Playing time could become even more difficult to come by for Clement when Daulton Varsho (shoulder) returns from the injured list, as Will Wagner would likely be deployed at third base even more frequently after having thus far moved between the hot corner and designated hitter.

  • Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Hits bench Sunday

Clement is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles. Clement will be on the bench for the second time in the four-game series while Will Wagner fills in for him at third base. Though the right-handed-hitting Clement should be a regular part of the lineup versus left-handed pitching, he could be more of a part-time option at third base.

  • Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Taking seat Friday

Clement is absent from the lineup for Friday's contest versus the Orioles. Clement got the call at third base in the opener and went hitless in three trips to the plate. The Blue Jays are going with Will Wagner at third base in the second game of the series while Clement heads to the bench.

  • Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Swats first spring homer

Clement went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a second run scored in Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Red Sox. Getting the start at third base and batting seventh in what might have been a preview of Toronto's Opening Day lineup, Clement turned on a Cooper Criswell offering in the second inning and drove it out to center field for his first homer of the spring. The 28-year-old infielder has gotten off to a hot start in camp, going 8-for-17 (.471) in seven appearances, but he'll likely need to improve on last season's .284 OBP if he's going to be anything more than a utility player in the majors over the long haul.

  • Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Back in action Thursday

Clement (mouth) is in the lineup for Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Red Sox. An errant fastball struck Clement in the face during Monday's exhibition against the Tigers, but he managed to avoid any fractures and was cleared of a concussion. The 28-year-old is now ready to resume his preparations for Opening Day, as he gears up to serve as the primary third baseman for Toronto in 2025.

  • Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Could be in lineup Thursday

Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Wednesday that Clement (mouth) could be back in the lineup Thursday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports. Clement had to leave Monday's game against the Tigers after being hit in the face by a pitch, but he managed to escape with just a lip laceration and contusion and is feeling much better. He's expected to serve as Toronto's primary third baseman in 2025.

  • Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Exits after HBP in face

Clement was removed from Monday's game against the Tigers after being hit in the face by a pitch, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports. Clement was struck by a 91.3 mph fastball from Ty Madden and walked off the field with a trainer while holding a bloody towel to his face. The Blue Jays are saying for the time being that Clement is dealing with a lip laceration and contusion, although it's not clear whether he still needs to undergo additional testing. Clement is expected to open the season as Toronto's primary third baseman.

  • Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Sitting Saturday

Clement is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Rays. Clement will get Saturday off after making nine consecutive starts for Toronto. In his place, Leo Jimenez will play shortstop while Davis Schneider plays the keystone. Clement is 11-for-38 (.289) across his last 10 games.

  • Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Homers Sunday

Clement went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and a stolen base in Sunday's loss to the Twins. Clement had the Blue Jays' only extra-base hit of the afternoon and was the only player in the lineup with more than one hit. Clement took Bailey Ober deep in the opening frame and later singled and stole a bag in the eighth. The 28-year-old finished with 17 RBI in 27 games in August and also now has three steals over his last six starts. For the year, he's slashing .261/.284/.423 with 11 homers, 46 RBI, 39 runs, 11 steals and a 9:33 BB:K in 361 plate appearances.

  • Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Getting rest Saturday

Clement isn't in Toronto's lineup Saturday against Minnesota. Clement will get a breather Saturday after going 7-for-37 (.189) with two homers and eight RBI across the Jays' last 10 games. His absence will allow Leo Jimenez to pick up a start at shortstop and bat ninth.

  • Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Finding power stroke

Clement went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double and a three-run home run in Wednesday's 11-7 loss to the Reds. The 28-year-old infielder went yard for the second straight game, and his third-inning shot off Nick Martinez gave the Blue Jays a 6-0 lead that the pitching staff quickly squandered. Clement has caught fire in August, and over his last 17 games he sports a .290/.329/.478 slash line, but most of the power has come in the last week -- five of his six extra-base hits on the month, including all three homers, have come in his last six contests.
