  • White Sox's Jonathan Cannon: Secures win in bulk role

Cannon (1-3) picked up the win Saturday against the Athletics, yielding three runs on six hits and two walks over 7.2 innings. He struck out five.

The Chicago right-hander looked sharp in this outing, working behind opener Tyler Gilbert, who fired a clean first inning. Cannon generated a respectable 14 whiffs out of 95 total pitches. The 24-year-old now sports a 4.50 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 27:17 K:BB across 32 innings. Given his success pitching behind an opener, it would not be surprising to see the White Sox use Cannon in the same role for his next appearance, which currently lines up to be against the Astros at home.

  • White Sox's Jonathan Cannon: Suffers third loss

Cannon (0-3) took the loss Monday, allowing four runs on six hits and four walks over six innings at Boston. He struck out four.

The 24-year-old fired 90 pitches, generating a paltry five whiffs, in this early Patriots' Day outing. Walks continue to be a problem for Cannon, as he's issued at least two free passes in each of his five starts and sports a 5.6 BB/9. Outside of his strikeout rate (8.1 K/9), the Chicago right-hander has begun his season on a sour note, pitching to a 4.81 ERA and 1.56 WHIP across 24.1 innings. Despite the disappointing start, Cannon remains locked into a rotation spot and currently lines up to make his next turn against the Athletics on the road.

  • White Sox's Jonathan Cannon: Effective in short start

Cannon tossed 4.1 scoreless innings in a no-decision against the Athletics on Wednesday, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out four batters.

Cannon gave up just three hits and wasn't egregiously wild -- he threw 52 of 88 pitches for strikes and issued a tolerable two walks -- but he nonetheless lasted just 4.1 frames. In spite of the short outing, the right-hander made some positive strides by holding the A's scoreless after giving up nine runs over nine innings across his previous two starts. Cannon lowered his season ERA to 4.52, and he also has a 1.53 WHIP and 18:11 K:BB through 18.1 frames.

The 24-year-old right-hander will look to get back on track in his next start, currently scheduled for next week against the Athletics.

  • White Sox's Jonathan Cannon: Settles for no-decision Saturday

Cannon came away with a no-decision in Saturday's 1-0 loss to the Angels, giving up four hits and three walks over five scoreless innings. He struck out five.

The 24-year-old righty engaged in a pitchers' duel with Jose Soriano in each hurler's 2025 debut, but Cannon was lifted after 85 pitches (53 strikes) and had to watch Mike Clevinger give up the game's only run in the eighth inning. Cannon held his own as a rookie last year, but his fantasy ceiling is limited given his inability to miss bats consistently and his team context. He lines up to make his next start on the road next weekend in Detroit.

  • White Sox's Jonathan Cannon: Locked into rotation spot

White Sox manager Will Venable said Wednesday that Cannon will open the season in the club's rotation, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

The revelation doesn't come as a surprise, as Cannon made 21 starts (23 appearances in total) for the White Sox last season and was serviceable, collecting a 4.49 ERA and 91:40 K:BB over 124.1 innings. Cannon might even start Opening Day, although Martin Perez and Davis Martin -- who Venable also named to the rotation Wednesday -- could be candidates, as well. The 24-year-old Cannon is not a desirable fantasy target.
