Royals' Blake Mitchell: Returns from 7-day IL
High-A Quad Cities reinstated Mitchell (wrist) from the 7-day injured list Monday.
Mitchell has been cleared to make his 2025 debut in the Midwest League after he broke his right wrist in late February and required surgery, which kept him on the shelf for the first three months of the season. The catching prospect received the green light to join Quad Cities after he slashed .286/.487/.464 with one home run and three stolen bases in 39 plate appearances during his rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League.

Royals' Blake Mitchell: Resumes rehab stint
Mitchell (wrist) went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run and a walk Wednesday in the Arizona Complex League.
Mitchell, one of the Royals' top prospects, has had his 2025 campaign disrupted by a fractured hamate bone in his right wrist that required surgery Feb. 26. His initial rehab assignment was shut down May 13, but he returned to game action in the Arizona Complex League on Monday, going 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and three walks across two games. The 2023 first-round pick showcased impressive plate discipline and power in Low-A last season, slashing .238/.376/.439 with 37 extra-base hits and 50 RBI over 106 games before struggling in a brief five-game stint at High-A. Mitchell remains a ways off from the big leagues, but Kansas City has to be encouraged by his return to game action and continued progress toward rejoining a full-season affiliate.

Royals' Blake Mitchell: Playing at extended spring training
Mitchell (wrist) has started playing in extended spring training games, MLB.com reports.
Mitchell broke his right hamate bone in February and was originally expected to miss just four-to-six weeks. It's not clear when he'll make his minor-league season debut. Mitchell was the eighth overall pick in the 2023 First-Year Player Draft and spent most of last year at the Single-A level, slashing .240/.375/.443 with 18 home runs, 50 RBI and 24 stolen bases before finishing the campaign with five games at High-A.

Royals' Blake Mitchell: Breaks bone in right wrist
Mitchell has a broken right hamate bone and will need 4-to-6 weeks to recover, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Mitchell was the eighth overall pick in the 2023 First-Year Player Draft and spent most of last year at the Single-A level, slashing .240/.375/.443 with 18 home runs, 50 RBI and 24 stolen bases in 31 attempts while posting a 30.4 percent strikeout rate and 17.0 percent walk rate over 461 plate appearances. Royals' Blake Mitchell: Finishes year at High-A
Mitchell was promoted from Single-A Columbia to High-A Quad Cities on Sept. 3.
The No. 8 overall pick in 2023, Mitchell slashed .238/.376/.439 with 18 home runs and 25 steals in 106 games at Single-A prior to the promotion. Mitchell is a good athlete for a catcher and has above-average raw power, but he's looked like a three-true-outcomes slugger this year, logging a 30.7 percent strikeout rate and a 16.5 percent walk rate. It's a tiny sample, but he's got seven strikeouts and one walk in five games since the promotion.
