  • Pirates' Connor Scott: Shipped to Pittsburgh

Scott was traded alongside Zach Thompson and Kyle Nicolas from Miami to Pittsburgh on Monday in exchange for Jacob Stallings, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.

Scott was taken with the 13th pick in the 2018 draft but was a below-average hitter at each stop on the minor-league ladder prior to this season. In 96 games for High-A Beloit, he hit .276/.333/.446 (good for a 112 wRC+) with 10 homers and 14 steals. He possesses the speed to play center field and has good raw power but may not hit enough to be an everyday player.

  • Marlins' Connor Scott: Gets big-league camp invite

The Marlins announced Monday that Scott will report to big-league spring training as a non-roster invitee, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

The 2018 first-round pick will get a chance to test himself against higher-level competition early in camp, but he'll presumably be reassigned to minor-league spring training after the first one or two waves of roster cuts. The 21-year-old outfielder split time between the Midwest and Florida State Leagues in 2019, slashing .248/.310/.359 with five home runs and 41 RBI across 476 at-bats.

  • Marlins' Connor Scott: Joins 60-player pool

Scott was added to the Marlins' 60-player pool Wednesday.

The 2018 first-round pick will head to the Marlins' alternate training site for the closing stretch of the season. Scott finished 2019 at High-A Jupiter and had a .235/.306/.327 slash line with one homer and two stolen bases in 27 games.

  • Marlins' Connor Scott: Receives promotion

The Marlins promoted Scott from Low-A Clinton to High-A Jupiter on Monday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

The 2018 first-round pick has performed at a below-league-average level (97 wRC+) at Clinton this season, but he's found his swing in July, slashing .313/.382/.434 (138 wRC+) across 110 plate appearances. The month-long surge was enough for the Marlins to give him a stiffer test in the Florida State League, where he'll join three more of the organization's recent first-round picks in JJ Bleday, Braxton Garrett and Trevor Rogers.

  • Marlins' Connor Scott: Tearing roof off for Clinton

Scott went 2-for-5 with an RBI for Low-A Clinton on Monday.

The 19-year-old has suddenly caught fire in the Midwest League, reeling off seven straight multi-hit games and slashing .483/.516/.690 over that stretch. Scott hasn't yet performed like a first-round pick (13th overall in 2018) in his brief minor-league career, but his speed and developing hit tool mark him as a potential leadoff hitter in the majors if he maxes out his skills, so this surge is a very encouraging development.

  • Marlins' Connor Scott: Swats first homer

Scott went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run for Low-A Clinton on Thursday.

The 13th overall pick in the 2018 draft has had a rough start to the season. Thursday's homer was his first, and Scott's .148/.212/.262 slash line and 5:15 BB:K through 15 games are not what the Marlins were hoping to see. He's still only 19, so some struggles in full-season ball aren't that surprising, and he has shown signs of skill growth -- his 3-for-4 performance on steal attempts is a huge step up from the 9-for-17 he managed last year. If Scott can improve his hit tool as he climbs the ladder, his speed would play at the top of a big-league order whether he ever develops any power or not, but as a prospect he has a lot to prove right now.
