A 6-foot middle infielder with one of the best approaches and hit tools in the minors, Adael Amador has a chance to contend for batting titles in his prime. Unfortunately, injuries limited him to 69 games (including rehab assignments), but he was able to reach Double-A as a 20-year-old. The skilled switch hitter made notable exit velocity gains last year, notching a career-best 110.4-mph maxEV while upping his hard-hit rate and average exit velocity. Even with those gains, he doesn't barrel the ball regularly enough to the pull side to project for more than 15-20 homer pop at peak, and he's not the type of burner on the bases who projects to top 20 steals in a season, even if he's on base all the time. Amador's overall fantasy profile is similar to Rockies era DJ LeMahieu, where batting average/OBP and runs scored will be his banner stats. He was added to the 40-man roster and could make his big-league debut this summer. Ezequiel Tovar is the superior defender, so Amador's long-term home is likely second base.

    Amador is slashing .138/.312/.149 with zero home runs, 12 steals and more walks (19) than strikeouts (17) in 25 games for Double-A Hartford. Coming into the year, Amador was seen as one of the best pure hitters in the minors, so it's a bit jarring to see his batting average sitting at .138 through the first five weeks of the season. Perhaps more concerning though, is Amador's complete lack of power, as his .171 BABIP and overly patient approach largely explain his low batting average. Amador's 20.6 percent hard-hit rate and 63.2 percent groundball rate are very troubling marks. He is playing half his games in Hartford, which is essentially a neutral hitting environment, after getting to play half his High-A games at the very hitter-friendly park in Spokane, which helped him slug .514 in 54 High-A games last year.

Even though Amador hadn't played for Spokane since June 22 before being shut down with a broken hamate bone in his right hand that ultimately required surgery, the Rockies saw enough from the 20-year-old during his rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League to send him to Double-A now that he's healthy again. Through his first two games with Hartford, the switch-hitting middle infielder has gone 2-for-8 with a walk, a run scored and two stolen bases. He had slashed .302/.391/.514 with nine home runs and 12 stolen bases in 54 games with Spokane prior to getting injured.

Amador was named Player of the Week in the California League on Monday after he hit .500 with two doubles, four home runs and seven RBI across 30 plate appearances from April 26 to May 1. He has maintained a .295 ISO and .494 wOBA to go along with a 16.8 percent walk rate while only striking out at a 12.6 percent clip. Amador has been regarded as a polished prospect with a lesser ceiling, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see some of his power production fade, but his start to the season has been worthy of attention.
