Tigers' Jason Foley: Collects 20th save
Foley earned the save Sunday, striking out one during a perfect ninth inning against the Red Sox.
Foley needed just seven pitches to close the door on his 20th save. The Detroit closer began September in the same manner as he ended August as he holds a 0.00 ERA and 0.50 WHIP with 10 strikeouts over 12 innings since the end of July.

Tigers' Jason Foley: Snags 19th save
Foley pitched a scoreless ninth inning with two strikeouts to record the save the in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Angels.
Foley has recorded the save each of the last two days against Los Angeles, giving him 19 for the season. That's easily a career high for the righty, as he came into the year with just seven saves across his first three MLB campaigns. The Tigers have used Tyler Holton and Shelby Miller on occasion to close out games, but Foley has established himself as the top option in Detroit's bullpen.

Tigers' Jason Foley: Picks up 16th save
Foley earned the save in Thursday's 2-1 win over the Mariners, striking out one in a perfect ninth inning.
It's the first save for Foley in over a month and his first opportunity since July 12, when he allowed a run in a loss to the Dodgers. While Foley struggled to close out July, he's been pitching better since the start of August -- he's now made seven straight appearances (6.2 innings) without allowing an earned run. While the closing job in Detroit appears fluid, Foley is still likely the best bet for saves moving forward. He's converted 16 of 19 save chances this year while posting a 3.48 ERA with a 1.30 WHIP and 32:15 K:BB across 44 innings.

Tigers' Jason Foley: Not used in save chance Sunday
Foley did not appear in Sunday's 5-4 win over the Giants, with Will Vest earning the save instead.
Foley last pitched Friday and before that Wednesday, so he seemingly should have been available for the save opportunity Sunday. Instead, Vest was used and earned his first save of the season. Foley leads the Tigers with 15 saves, but he's also struggled a bit recently, as he has a 5.68 ERA and 1.74 WHIP since the beginning of July. Foley has a tenuous hold on the closer role, and with six Detroit relievers now having saves this year, it's a fairly murky bullpen situation at this point.

Tigers' Jason Foley: Earns win in relief Saturday
Foley (3-3) allowed two unearned runs on one hit across two innings of relief to earn the win in extra innings Saturday against the Royals. He struck out one.
Foley didn't enter the contest until the top of the 10th inning, when he allowed the automatic runner on second base to score following a fielder's choice and a sacrifice fly. He allowed the automatic runner to score again in the 11th, but the Tigers scored twice in the bottom half to give the righty the win. Foley has ceded some ninth-inning work to other relievers, though he's still clearly trusted in high-leverage spots and remains the team's top closer. He leads the Tigers by a wide margin with 15 saves this season.
