Lakers' Christian Wood: Undergoes knee procedure
Wood underwent a successful arthroscopic surgical procedure on his left knee Monday, Mike Trudell of Spectrum SportsNet reports.
The forward will be re-evaluated in eight weeks, meaning he will miss the start of the 2024-25 season. This is a tough blow for Wood, as it will set him back with his offseason training. Wood exercised his $3.04 million player option in May and was already facing an uphill battle for playing time in the Lakers' crowded frontcourt, and this certainly won't help.

Lakers' Christian Wood: Exercises player option
Wood exercised his $3 million player option for the 2024-25 season Tuesday, Michael Scotto of USA Today reports.
Wood was a sporadic part of the rotation in Los Angeles this season, appearing in 50 games with averages of 6.9 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 17.4 minutes. There could potentially be a lot of changes for the Lakers this offseason depending on whether or not LeBron James picks up his player option, so it's difficult to project Wood's role for next season at the moment.

Wood (knee) is hopeful to be cleared to play for the Lakers' Game 3 matchup with the Nuggets on Thursday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
Wood hasn't played since Feb. 14 while rehabbing from an arthroscopic knee procedure, so even if he's available for Game 3, the reserve big man may be limited to a minor role or kept out of the rotation entirely. Across 50 regular-season appearances (one start), Wood averaged 6.9 points and 5.1 rebounds in 17.4 minutes per game.

Wood hasn't taken the court since an arthroscopic knee procedure in mid-March, so his absence shouldn't impact Los Angeles' rotation. It remains unclear if he'll get the green light to return at some point during the postseason.
