Steelers' Kyle Allen: Passes for 193 yards Friday
Allen completed 17 of 23 pass attempts for 193 yards, a touchdown and an interception while rushing once for 11 yards during Friday's 20-12 preseason loss to the Texans.
Justin Fields drew the start during Friday's preseason opener, but Allen saw most of the playing time under center. He led the team to two scores in the second half and completed four passes of at least 24 yards. Despite Friday's solid showing, Allen will have to continue competing for a roster spot as a backup as the preseason progresses since the Steelers also have Fields and Russell Wilson as options at quarterback.

Steelers' Kyle Allen: Lands in Pittsburgh
The Steelers agreed to terms on a contract with Allen on Monday, Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com reports.
Allen lands in a quarterback room that just brought in new faces Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. Currently, Wilson looks to be the favorite to start, though coach Mike Tomlin has stated that Fields will get opportunities to compete. Allen, meanwhile, looks firmly comfortable as the No. 3 option on the depth chart. He served as the backup to the Bills' Josh Allen in 2023.

Bills' Kyle Allen: Bad development for positioning
The Bills signed veteran quarterback Mitch Trubisky to a two-year deal on Wednesday, presumably to serve as Josh Allen's top backup.
Kyle Allen played the backup role for Josh Allen in 2023, but with the latter mostly healthy that yielded only spot mop-up duties, as the former never even attempted a pass. Kyle Allen likely won't be doing that for the Bills in 2024 following the Trubisky signing, as Trubisky comes with a better resume and has a first-round label from 2017. Plus, Trubisky is better suited to serve as at least a partial replica of Josh Allen, as both have strong arms, can be tough to tackle and have running ability. There may no longer be room for Kyle Allen on the roster.
