Top D'Onta Foreman News

  • Browns' D'Onta Foreman: Fewest backfield snaps in loss

Foreman had two carries for five yards in Sunday's 21-14 loss to the Bengals. He also returned to two kickoffs for 31 yards.

On the day that Nick Chubb finally returned to action, Foreman brought up the rear of the backfield with just 11 snaps, compared to Chubb's 30 and Pierre Strong's 42. Jerome Ford (hamstring) was inactive. Foreman's touches have fluctuated from week to week, and he's yet to score a touchdown. Ford's return, and the pending season debut of Nyheim Hines (knee) -- who can also handle kick return duties -- could cost Foreman his roster spot in Cleveland.

  • Browns' D'Onta Foreman: Part of Week 7 backfield mix

Foreman (groin) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Bengals, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN reports.

Foreman will suit up after practicing without limitations Friday. He was listed as limited both Wednesday and Thursday. The Browns will be without Jerome Ford (hamstring) but expect to welcome back Nick Chubb (knee, questionable) in the backfield, which could result in minimal changes to Foreman's workload. Foreman has three games with five or fewer touches and three with 10-to-15 touches this season, but he's averaging just 3.2 YPC and has yet to score a touchdown.

  • Browns' D'Onta Foreman: Logs limited practice

Foreman (groin) was limited at Wednesday's practice.

In this past weekend's 20-16 loss to the Eagles, Foreman logged 20 snaps en route to recording 31 yards on 10 carries and 16 yards on two catches. While fellow RB Jerome Ford -- who was limited to four snaps Week 6 after sustaining a hamstring injury -- didn't practice Wednesday, the Browns backfield for Sunday's contest against the Bengals is expected to be bolstered by the anticipated return of Nick Chubb (knee). In that context, Foreman, assuming his availability, would likely work in a timeshare that also would include Pierre Strong this weekend, regardless of Ford's status.

  • Browns' D'Onta Foreman: Remains limited in practice

Foreman (groin) was a limited practice participant Thursday.

There are a bunch of moving parts in the Cleveland backfield, with Jerome Ford (hamstring) missing a second straight practice Thursday while Nick Chubb (knee) was a full participant again. Foreman lands in the middle, having logged limited practices Wednesday and Thursday, but he may not have much of a role with Chubb on track to return for Sunday's matchup with the Bengals.

  • Browns' D'Onta Foreman: Backfield touch leader in loss

Foreman gained 31 yards on 10 carries and caught both of his targets for 16 yards in Sunday's 20-16 loss to Philadelphia in Week 6.

Starter Jerome Ford left the game after just four snaps with a hamstring injury, leaving the bulk of the backfield duties to Foreman and Pierre Strong (10 touches). Foreman's 12 touches (20 snaps) led the backfield while Strong (30 snaps) was on the field more often and was more productive (78 scrimmage yards). Ford's status for Week 7's tilt against the Bengals may not matter much to Foreman or Strong, as the Browns anticipate Nick Chubb (knee) being ready to make his 2024 debut.

  • Browns' D'Onta Foreman: Cleared for Week 6

Foreman (ankle) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Eagles, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.

Foreman avoided an injury designation with full participation in Friday's practice. Pierre Strong (hamstring) also will be available in a change-of-pace role behind Jerome Ford, while Nick Chubb (knee) has been ruled out and won't make his season debut. Foreman has 29 carries for 93 yards over the last four games.

  • Browns' D'Onta Foreman: Returns to practice Thursday

Foreman (ankle) was limited at practice Thursday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

After missing Wednesday's session, Foreman's return to a limited practice one day later has him trending in a positive direction ahead of Sunday's game against the Eagles. However, the running back likely will need to practice fully Friday in order to avoid a Week 6 injury designation.

  • Browns' D'Onta Foreman: Dealing with ankle issue

Foreman won't practice Wednesday due to an ankle injury, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

In the Browns' Week 5 loss to the Commanders, Foreman was on the field for 21 of the team's 62 snaps on offense, finishing the day with nine carries for 44 yards and one reception for 16 yards. With a Wednesday absence looming, Foreman's status for Sunday's game against the Eagles is now worth monitoring. He had been working as the No. 2 option out of the backfield behind Jerome Ford, but even if Foreman overcomes the injury ahead of Sunday's contest, he could slide down to third on the depth chart if the Browns activate Nick Chubb (knee) from the PUP list this week.

  • Browns' D'Onta Foreman: Productive in timeshare

Foreman carried the ball nine times for 44 yards and caught his only target for 16 yards in Sunday's 34-13 loss to the Commanders.

The veteran back saw 10 touches to Jerome Ford's 12, and Foreman's 60 scrimmage yards led the Cleveland backfield. It's was Foreman's best performance of the season, but his role could shrink quickly again if Nick Chubb (knee) is cleared to make his 2024 debut in Week 6. If not, Foreman could work in a timeshare with Ford again versus a well-rested Eagles defense that will be coming out of its bye.

  • Browns' D'Onta Foreman: Five touches in loss

Foreman carried the ball four times for two yards, caught his lone target for five yards and returned two kickoffs for 56 yards in Sunday's 20-16 loss to the Raiders.

For the third time in four games, Foreman was afterthought on offense, but the seventh-year back was used as a returner for the first time since his rookie season in 2017 when he was with Houston. The state of the Browns' backfield could change in Week 5 if either Nick Chubb (knee, PUP list) or Nyheim Hines (knee, NFI) are ready to make their season debuts, which would make Foreman's role on offense even more tenuous.
