Browns' James Hudson: Has surgery
Hudson had surgery on his injured right shoulder Thursday, Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
The left tackle missed the Browns' Week 5 loss to the Commanders after aggravating the injury in the team's Week 4 defeat to the Raiders. Last week, Cleveland coach Kevin Stefanski said Hudson could be placed on IR, per Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com. Jedrick Wills (knee) or Germain Ifedi should be in line to serve as Cleveland's top left tackle in Week 6 against Philadelphia.

Browns' D'Onta Foreman: Returns to practice Thursday
Foreman (ankle) was limited at practice Thursday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
After missing Wednesday's session, Foreman's return to a limited practice one day later has him trending in a positive direction ahead of Sunday's game against the Eagles. However, the running back likely will need to practice fully Friday in order to avoid a Week 6 injury designation.

Njoku (knee/ankle) was limited at practice Thursday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
After not practicing Wednesday, Njoku is trending in the right direction following his return to a limited session a day later. Friday's practice report thus is slated reveal whether the Browns' top tight end approaches Sunday's game against the Eagles with an injury designation.

Browns' David Njoku: Back at practice Thursday
Njoku (knee/ankle) is participating in Thursday's practice, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
Njoku is back at practice Thursday after having been listed as 'DNP' on Wednesday's injury report due to knee and ankle issues. A high-ankle sprain kept the standout tight end sidelined Week 2 through Week 4, but he was able to return to the field during Cleveland's loss to Washington in Week 5. Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski has labeled Njoku day-to-day, so even if Njoku is only practicing in a limited capacity Thursday, that represents a notable step in the right direction. Friday's practice report will key to determining Njoku's chances of suiting up on the road at Philadelphia on Sunday.

Brown was signed to Cleveland's 53-man roster from its practice squad Thursday.
Brown has already been elevated the maximum of three times from the practice squad this season. With Denzel Ward (hamstring) questionable, the team opted to officially add Brown to the active roster, bolstering its depth in the secondary.

Browns' Martin Emerson: Laments rough start
Emerson acknowledged to Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal that he has not played well to start the 2024 season. "Self-evaluation, I'm not playing the ball that I want to play right now," Emerson said.
Emerson emerged as a capable cornerback in 2023 and allowed one touchdown on 73 targets, per Pro Football Focus, but progress has not been linear in 2024. He's given up three touchdowns and allowed 16 catches on 25 targets through five games. That included a 41-yard touchdown against Washington last week just before halftime to give the Commanders a 24-3 lead. Things will not get easier in Week 6 for Emerson, who will be tasked with guarding Eagles wideouts A.J. Brown (hamstring) and DeVonta Smith (concussion), both of whom logged full practices Wednesday and are expected to play following a bye week.
