Panthers' Feleipe Franks: Signed to active roster
The Panthers signed Franks to the active roster Saturday, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
Franks was added to Carolina's practice squad after making the initial 53-man roster at the conclusion of training camp. With Ian Thomas (calf) on the IR and Tommy Tremble (hamstring) ruled out for Week 1, Franks was added to the active roster to provide the Panthers additional depth at tight end behind Ja'Tavion Sanders, Jordan Matthews and Messiah Swinson.

Panthers' Mike Boone: Up from practice squad
The Panthers elevated Boone to the active roster Saturday, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
With Jonathon Brooks (knee) set to miss at least the first four games of the regular season while on the NFI list, Boone will serve as the fourth running back on the Panthers' depth chart for Sunday's game against the Saints behind Chuba Hubbard, Miles Sanders and Raheem Blackshear. Boone appeared in nine regular-season games for the Texans in 2023, finishing with five carries for 23 yards and seven catches (on nine targets) for 40 yards.

Panthers' Ian Thomas: Lands on IR
Thomas (calf) was placed on injured reserve Saturday.
Both Thomas and expected backup Tommy Tremble (hamstring/back) were both ruled out Friday, which means fourth-round rookie Ja'Tavion Sanders will make his first career start Sunday against the Saints. Thomas wasn't particularly useful from a fantasy perspective last year, but he was a reliable blocker and had played at least 600 snaps from 2020-2022. The seven-year veteran won't be eligible to return until early October.

Panthers' Yosh Nijman: Could play Sunday
Nijman (lower leg) is listed as questionable ahead of Carolina's Week 1 contest against the Saints on Sunday, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
The first-year Panther has been dealing with a lower leg issue for over a month, but after Friday's limited practice session, it appears he has a chance at suiting up Sunday. Nijman appeared in all 17 regular-season games for the Packers last season, and he's expected to serve as Carolina's top backup tackle Sunday, if he's able to play.

Panthers' Troy Hill: Ready to face Saints
Hill (heel) practiced in full Friday and does not have an injury designation for Sunday's regular-season opener against the Saints, Darin Gantt of the Saints' official site reports.
Hill was added to Thursday's injury report due to a heel issue, but it doesn't look like he'll be hampered at all Week 1. He's expected to start at nickel cornerback versus New Orleans, while Jaycee Horn and Michael Jackson handle perimeter cornerback snaps.

Panthers' Ja'Tavion Sanders: Set for big role in debut
Sanders could see increased opportunities Sunday against the Saints, as Tommy Tremble (hamstring/back) and Ian Thomas (calf) have been ruled out.
Sanders won't face competition for playing time from either of Carolina's banged-up veterans as the 2024 fourth-round draft pick makes his NFL debut Sunday. Along with Sanders, the Panthers have converted wide receiver Jordan Matthews and Messiah Swinson available at tight end, but coach Dave Canales said Friday that Sanders will start, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.

Panthers' Tommy Tremble: Ruled out for Week 1
Tremble (hamstring/back) did not practice Friday and is ruled out for Sunday's regular-season opener against the Saints, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
Tremble and Ian Thomas (calf) are both ruled out for Week 1, leaving rookie Ja'Tavion Sanders, veteran Jordan Matthews and newcomer Messiah Swinson as healthy options among Carolina's tight end room. Tremble's next chance to take the field will come Week 2 at home versus the Chargers.

Panthers' Ian Thomas: Doesn't expect to play
Thomas (calf) isn't practicing Friday and said he won't play in Sunday's game against the Saints, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
Fellow tight end Tommy Tremble (hamstring/back) also is absent from Friday's practice, leaving rookie fourth-round pick Ja'Tavion Sanders as the likely No. 1 tight end for his NFL debut. The Panthers have Jordan Matthews and Messiah Swinson on the roster for depth, and Thomas suggested he could be back as soon as Week 2 against the Chargers.

Panthers' Ian Thomas: Remains sidelined Thursday
Thomas (calf) remained sidelined for Thursday's practice.
Thomas has been dealing with the calf issue for over a month now, and back-to-back DNPs to open the practice week would suggest he's on the wrong side of questionable for Week 1. Tommy Tremble (hamstring/back) is also dinged up for Carolina, leaving rookie Ja'Tavion Sanders atop the depth chart, followed by Jordan Matthews and Messiah Swinson.

Panthers' Troy Hill: Limited Thursday
Hill (heel) was added to Thursday's injury report, getting in a limited practice.
Mid-week additions to the injury report are rarely a good sign, but Hill's participation level Friday and game status will reveal more. Hill is expected to handle nickel corner duties in Carolina this season in between projected outside corners Jaycee Horn and Michael Jackson.

Panthers' Tommy Tremble: Misses another practice
Tremble (hamstring/back) is listed as a non-participant on Thursday's practice report.
Tremble and backup tight end Ian Thomas (calf) have now missed back-to-back practices, and it looks like both could be in danger of missing Sunday's regular-season opener against the Saints. Carolina recently added Messiah Swinson to the tight end room as a result of injuries atop the depth chart, and the team also has rookie Ja'Tavion Sanders and Jordan Matthews healthy at the position.

Panthers' Miles Sanders: Ready to rock
Sanders (finger) practiced in full Thursday.
Sanders was listed as a limited participant Wednesday, but he's now fully shed his finger injury. The veteran running back looks primed to contribute behind Chuba Hubbard out of the backfield to begin the 2024 regular season, starting with a Week 1 matchup on the road against the Saints on Sunday.
