Cowboys' Marshawn Kneeland: Cleared to play Sunday
Kneeland (calf) doesn't carry an injury designation into Sunday's game against New Orleans and is expected to play, Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football reports.
Kneeland progressed throughout the practice week, going from a DNP on Wednesday to limited Thursday and then full Friday. He recorded three tackles (two solo) and a pair of QB hits in the Week 1 win over the Browns while playing 58 percent of the Cowboys' defensive snaps.

Cowboys' Marshawn Kneeland: Practices Thursday
Kneeland (calf) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Joe Hoyt of AllDLLS.com reports.
Kneeland opened the week as a DNP on Wednesday due to a calf issue, but he was able to participate in a restricted capacity Thursday. His participation during Friday's practice will provide clarity on his status ahead of Sunday's game against New Orleans. The rookie second-round pick registered three tackles (two solo) and one pass defended in the Cowboys' Week 1 victory over the Browns.

Cowboys' Marshawn Kneeland: Logs DNP
Kneeland (calf) did not practice Wednesday, Joe Hoyt of AllDLLS.com reports.
Kneeland played 42 defensive snaps in his NFL debut Week 1 against the Browns. However, it appears the rookie picked up an injury along the way that will keep him sidelined Sunday. He'll work to get back on the practice field Thursday or Friday, as the team preps for Sunday's game against the Saints.

Cowboys' Marshawn Kneeland: Continues to shine in camp
Kneeland has gotten the attention of both coaches and teammates for his work ethic and drive to improve in training camp, Nick Harris of DallasCowboys.com reports.
Selected in the second round of the 2024 Draft due to his athleticism rather than his production at Western Michigan, Kneeland has been thrust into a bigger role in the Cowboys' edge rotation due to Sam Williams' season-ending knee injury, but the rookie is rising to the challenge. "Marshawn's been great in camp," defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer said. "He's working real hard on some of the pass rush stuff, because I don't think he was as efficient in doing that. He's been great against the run. He's a worker and I think he's going to continue to work." Teammate Micah Parsons was just as effusive in his praise, and threw out the name of an eight-time Pro Bowler as a comp for Kneeland's upside. "I think he's going to be a great player," Parsons said. "I'm giving him comps, I think he's a young Cameron Jordan. I think he has the talent and ability. He's just so hungry every day, willing to learn and he has that dog in him. He has unteachable characteristics." Even Jordan only recorded 1.0 sack in 16 games as a rookie in 2011, though, so while Kneeland could see a bigger workload than Dallas had planned this season, he's unlikely to make a big impact from an IDP perspective.

Cowboys' Marshawn Kneeland: In line for bigger role
Kneeland is the top candidate to take on a bigger role in the Cowboys' pass-rush rotation with Sam Williams (knee) out for the season, Patrik Walker of the team's website reports. "I've got to step up. I've gotta be ready, that much more, and take all of it seriously. ... I've got to step it up a notch," Kneeland said Tuesday. "It's still the same mindset, helping the team out as much as possible, but now I know there's more on my back."
A second-round pick in the 2024 Draft, Kneeland didn't produce big numbers in college at Western Michigan but has a strong athletic profile that should allow him to handle snaps both inside as a 3-technique and on the edge of the defensive line. Williams' injury could push the rookie to the outside more than originally expected, however. Kneeland could wind up as a better run-stopper than pass rusher, but he has a couple of excellent mentors in DeMarcus Lawrence and assistant coach Greg Ellis, who recorded 84.0 sacks in a 12-year career spent mainly in Dallas.
