Maple Leafs' Mitch Marner: Focused on season, not new contract
Marner, who is in the last year of his current deal, declined to discuss contract at Wednesday's season-opening media availability, reports Sportsnet.ca.
"I'm not here to talk about that. I'm here to talk about the season and getting going," said Marner. Despite putting up gaudy numbers in eight seasons in Toronto (639 points in 576 games, including 85 in 69 in 2023-24), he and Leafs have not seen playoff success, and Marner has borne the brunt of fan ire as a result. At times in the past, the pressure seemed to get to the hometown kid, but Marner enters camp focused and poised for a massive contract season after prepping for the season by working out with Hart-trophy winners Connor McDavid, Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon. MacKinnon has been quick to share that Marner "stuck out as one of the best" during the workouts. His first century season could be on the horizon.

Maple Leafs' Mitchell Marner: Scores lone goal in loss
Marner scored a goal on three shots and added two PIM in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Bruins in Game 4.
Marner snapped a five-game goal drought with his third-period tally, but the Maple Leafs couldn't make a rally out of it. He's picked up just two points with seven shots on net, six hits and a plus-1 rating over four playoff contests, which is not enough production from one of the team's core players. Marner remains in a top-six role, but Toronto will need more out of him to keep its season alive beyond Tuesday's Game 5.

Marner (ankle) might be available against the Canadiens on Saturday, Jonas Siegel of The Athletic reports.
While Marner won't be an option to face the Lightning on Wednesday, he appears to be close to returning to action. In order to play, Marner will need to be activated off long-term injured reserve.

Maple Leafs' Mitchell Marner: Also sidelined Monday
Marner (ankle) -- who had previously been ruled out versus the Sabres on Saturday -- won't be available against the Panthers on Monday either, Mark Masters of TSN reports.
The Leafs clearly aren't rushing Marner back onto the ice, preferring to get him some additional practice time before thrusting him back into the lineup. If he comes through Tuesday's practice unscathed, the winger may be ready to suit up when Toronto squares off with Tampa Bay on Wednesday. Bobby McMann should continue to fill a top-six role without Marner in the lineup.

Still, with two more matches on the shelf, the 26-year-old winger's missed game total will increase to 10 due to his ankle problem. Prior to getting hurt, Marner was rolling with 19 points in his previous 12 games, including seven power-play points.

Marner (ankle) is now considered day-to-day, but he'll miss an eighth straight game Tuesday against the Devils, David Alter of The Hockey News reports.
Marner's status for Wednesday's practice is also currently up in the air, so he should probably be considered questionable at best for Thursday's game against Washington at this time. Max Domi will likely continue to see top-six usage until Marner is ready to return.

Pontus Holmberg is slated to get another look alongside Auston Matthews on Tuesday versus the Flyers because of Marner's absence.

Calle Jarnkrok is projected to serve on the top line alongside Auston Matthews against the Flyers due to Marner's injury.
