It was Matthews' 200th multi-point game of his NHL career; it came in his 589th outing, the fastest by a US-born player in NHL history. He's also the fourth-fastest active player to reach 200, behind Sidney Crosby (465 games), Connor McDavid (466) and Alex Ovechkin (570). But it was the superstar's other skills that helped the Leafs get the third-period win. Matthews went 11-for-21 at the dot and blocked two shots in 20:51 of ice time, 2:44 on the penalty kill. His overall game is evolving under Craig Berube, and it could be the reason the Leafs finally contend for a parade this season.

Matthews played in both halves of a back-to-back after missing six contests due to an upper-body injury. He's been excellent since returning, racking up five points, eight shots and a plus-6 rating over those two games. The superstar center is at 12 goals, 16 helpers, 109 shots on net, 37 blocked shots, 17 hits and a plus-4 rating through 26 appearances. It will be an uphill battle for him to get to the 100-point mark after two significant injury absences in the first half of the campaign, but he should stay above a point-per-game pace without much trouble.

Matthews (upper body) scored a goal and had two assists Saturday in a 6-4 win over the Bruins.
Matthews had missed Toronto's past six games due to an upper-body injury, but he looked as fast and dominant in his return. He also willingly took and gave out body contact without any concern. Still, after the game, coach Craig Berube told Tony Ambrogio of TSN, "We definitely have to manage him and get him to a point where he's fully healthy. Whether that's a bit of time off I don't know." Matthews needs to be in your lineup stat, but watch for some load management going forward. It sure sounds like he'll be rested for maintenance at times to make sure he's sound for the postseason.
