Top Jakub Dobes News

  • Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Almost perfect in OT loss

Dobes made 34 saves Saturday in a 1-0 overtime loss to Toronto.

The Habs played a strong game in front of Dobes, and he was outstanding. The ice was tilted toward him -- Anthony Stolarz made just 15 saves on the night. Mitch Marner was the only Maple Leafs player to beat Dobes. The first-year goalie has played well this season, recording a 7-4-3 record, 2.74 GAA and .909 save percentage.

Dobes will protect the road goal versus the Maple Leafs on Saturday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

Dobes will get the second half of the Canadiens' back-to-back after Sam Montembeault was in goal for Friday's 5-2 loss to the Senators. Dobes won his last start over the Predators, but he had lost his previous three decisions. He is 7-4-2 with a 2.87 GAA and a .904 save percentage over 15 games.

  • Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Holds firm in win

Dobes stopped 36 of 37 shots in Sunday's 2-1 win over the Predators.

Dobes started for the first time in six games and won for the first time since March 1. He allowed an early goal to Steven Stamkos at 4:19 of the first period but closed the door the rest of the way to help the Canadiens get a fifth straight win as they strengthen their grip on the Eastern Conference's second wild-card spot. For the season, Dobes is 7-4-2 with a 2.87 GAA and a .904 save percentage over 15 games. Sam Montembeault is likely to start twice over the next week, but Dobes should get a game either Friday in Ottawa or Saturday in Toronto in the Canadiens' final back-to-back set of the season.

Dobes led the Canadiens onto the ice for Sunday's warmups, Brooks Bratten of the Predators' official site reports, indicating that Dobes will draw the road start against Nashville.

Dobes hasn't appeared in any of the Canadiens' last five games, but he'll draw the start in the second half of a back-to-back set Sunday. Over five appearances since the start of March, he's gone 1-2-1 with a 3.69 GAA and .874 save percentage.

  • Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Falls to Philly

Dobes turned aside 24 shots in Thursday's 6-4 loss to the Flyers.

Philly came out of the gates hot under interim head coach Brad Shaw, scoring three goals on 11 shots in the first period, and Dobes had basically no chance on any of those tallies. The 23-year-old rookie netminder hasn't won a game since March 1, going 0-2-1 over his last four outings with a 4.24 GAA and .862 save percentage.

  • Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Defending crease Thursday

Dobes will guard the road goal versus Philadelphia on Thursday, per Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports.

Dobes stopped four of five shots in Tuesday's 6-1 loss to St. Louis in relief after Sam Montembeault got the hook. The 23-year-old Dobes has a 6-3-2 record with one shutout, a 2.75 GAA and a .905 save percentage in 13 NHL appearances this season. Philadelphia has lost six straight outings and sits 26th in the league with 2.70 goals per game in 2024-25.

  • Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Gives up goal in relief

Dobes stopped four of five shots in relief during Tuesday's 6-1 loss to the Blues.

Sam Montembeault allowed five goals on 32 shots before being replaced by Dobes with 9:48 remaining in the third period. However, Dobes was unable to leave the ice without conceding at least one goal. The 23-year-old has made four appearances this month, going 1-1-1 with a 2.89 GAA and an .899 save percentage. He's not expected to claim the starting role any time soon, however, so his upside will remain limited in most fantasy formats.

  • Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Yields five goals Wednesday

Dobes gave up five goals on 35 shots in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to the Kraken.

This one will sting -- the Canadiens were ahead 4-2 midway through the third period. Dobes allowed a pair of power-play goals to Jani Nyman and Matty Beniers, and then Brandon Montour scored four seconds into overtime, which is the fastest goal from the start of overtime in NHL history. Over his last seven outings, Dobes has gone 1-3-2 with 23 goals allowed on 198 shots. The 23-year-old netminder slipped to 6-3-2 with a 2.71 GAA and a .907 save percentage over 12 starts as a rookie this season. Sam Montembeault is likely to get the nod in a tough home matchup versus the Panthers on Saturday.

The 23-year-old Dobes stopped 23 shots in Saturday's 1-0 loss to Calgary. He has a 6-3-1 record with one shutout, a 2.49 GAA and a .913 save percentage through 11 appearances this season. Seattle sits 15th in the league with 2.94 goals per game in 2024-25.

  • Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Takes tough loss in Calgary

Dobes turned aside 23 shots in Saturday's 1-0 loss to the Flames.

Joel Farabee ripped a shot past the rookie netminder from the faceoff dot late in the second period, and it was all the offense the home side would need. Dobes has just one win in his last six outings dating back to Jan. 25, going 1-3-1 with a 3.39 GAA and .890 save percentage, but Saturday's effort could encourage coach Martin St. Louis to take some of the load off Sam Montembeault's shoulders.

  • Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Expected starter for Saturday

Dobes was recalled from AHL Laval on Friday and will start in Saturday's road clash against Calgary, per Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports.

Dobes was only briefly in the minors to keep him eligible for AHL service for the rest of the season. He has a 6-2-1 record, 2.63 GAA and .909 save percentage in 10 appearances with Montreal in 2024-25. The Flames rank 32nd in goals per game with 2.58.

  • Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Paper move to AHL

Dobes was sent to AHL Laval on Friday, but the Canadiens clarified that it's a paper transaction.

Dobes should be back with Montreal soon, but this move keeps him eligible to be sent to AHL Laval for the rest of the season. He has a 6-2-1 record, 2.63 GAA and .909 save percentage in 10 appearances with the Canadiens in 2024-25.

  • Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Stops 23 shots in win

Dobes made 23 saves on 25 shots in Saturday's 4-2 road win over the Sabres.

After a scoreless first frame, the Sabres got the puck past Dobes twice in 90 seconds to give Buffalo a 2-1 lead. However, the 23-year-old netminder shut them out the rest of the way to help pave the way for a Canadiens win. Overall, Dobes is up to a 6-2-1 record with a 2.63 GAA and a .909 save percentage across 10 appearances this season. Saturday's win was his first since Jan. 19, when he completed a five-game winning streak. Even in contests that Dobes has lost, he has been effective against a high volume of shots. The Canadiens' backup netminder has some streaming appeal whenever he gets the starting nod.

  • Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Set to start in Buffalo

Dobes will serve as the starting goaltender for Saturday's road game against Buffalo.

Dobes hasn't been particularly sharp in recent outings, going 0-2-1 with a 4.48 GAA and .868 save percentage over his last four appearances. He'll make his first start since the 4 Nations Face-Off break against a somewhat formidable opponent, as the Sabres are tied for 11th in the NHL with 3.19 goals per game.

  • Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Spared loss after quick hook

Dobes gave up three goals on eight shots in Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Lightning.

Dobes was pulled for Sam Montembeault after giving up a goal to Brayden Point early in the second period. The Canadiens managed to cover the damage against Dobes, sparing him the loss despite his poor performance. He's still winless in his last four outings with 15 goals allowed in that span after opening his career with five straight wins. Dobes is at 5-2-1 with a 2.71 GAA and a .908 save percentage through nine appearances. While his hot start earned him some attention, he should be treated like any other backup goalie on a mediocre team for fantasy purposes.

  • Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Facing Lightning on Sunday

Dobes will patrol the home crease versus Tampa Bay on Sunday.

Sam Montembeault will start against the Devils on Saturday, leaving Sunday's start to Dobes. Dobes has struggled in his last three starts, going 0-2-1 and allowing 12 goals on 106 shots (.887 save percentage). Dobes won his first five starts in the NHL and is 5-2-1 with a 2.45 GAA and a .917 save percentage. The Lightning could give Dobes all sorts of problems as Tampa Bay is generating 3.49 goals per game, third in the NHL this season.

  • Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Torched for five goals

Dobes allowed five goals on 36 shots in Wednesday's 6-3 loss to the Kings. The sixth goal was an empty-netter.

The Kings had a 2-1 lead through two periods before the game opened in the third, and Dobes couldn't keep pace. He's now given up 12 goals while going 0-2-1 over his last three outings. He's 5-2-1 with a 2.45 GAA and a .917 save percentage through eight NHL starts. The 23-year-old has played well enough at times to earn a little leeway, especially since Cayden Primeau had virtually no good moments during his time in the NHL to begin the season. The Canadiens have a home back-to-back prior to the 4 Nations Face-Off break with games against the Devils on Saturday and the Lightning on Sunday. Sam Montembeault and Dobes are likely to split that pair of tough matchups.

  • Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Facing Kings

Dobes will guard the road goal versus the Kings on Wednesday, Zach Dooley of the Kings' official site reports.

Sam Montembeault handled the goaltending duties in a 4-3 win over the Sharks on Tuesday. After winning his first five games, Dobes has allowed seven goals on 70 shots while going 0-1-1 over his last two outings. This could be a tough matchup for the Canadiens to generate offense, but the Kings have scored just 10 times over their last six games, so Dobes may not have too much trouble.

  • Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Takes first regulation loss

Dobes allowed three goals on 26 shots in Thursday's 4-0 loss to the Wild.

It took seven games into his NHL career for Dobes to pick up his first regulation loss. He didn't get much help from his teammates on the first two goals. Alexandre Carrier knocked the stick out of his hands, and Liam Ohgren scored seconds later. Two minutes later, a defensive breakdown led to a two-on-one rush and to a Marco Rossi tally. Dobes has been a good story since being called up in late December, but the rookie has allowed 11 goals over his last three starts and lost two straight. Montreal has two days off before beginning a road trip in Anaheim on Sunday.
