Silovs was held out of Olympic qualifying matches with Latvia due to knee inflammation but appears to be trending in the right direction. The Canucks may need the 23-year-old netminder to start the season between the pipes, as No. 1 backstop Thatcher Demko is also dealing with a knee issue. For his part, Silovs has just nine regular-season games under his belt but should be expected to see upwards of 30 outings in 2024-25 -- perhaps more depending on how long Demko is shelved. Vancouver kicks off its preseason schedule Sept. 24 against Seattle, which could be Silovs first start of the campaign if his knee is given the all-clear.

Canucks' Arturs Silovs: Dealing with knee issue
Silovs has knee ligament inflammation and will not play for Latvia in the 2026 Olympic qualifiers, Patrick Johnston of the Province reports Thursday.
After being left off of Latvia's roster on Wednesday, there's now a reason behind Silovs' removal from the team. In Latvia's press release, they made note that this injury would prevent Silovs from performing to the highest of his capabilities. It'll be something to monitor, but this could imply that Silovs' injury isn't overly serious, but rather more of a precautionary move. The 23-year-old is expected to be Thatcher Demko's top backup in Vancouver for the 2024-25 season, who is also currently dealing with a lingering knee issue.
