Game Recap
The best player on the turf between the Tennessee Volunteers and the Auburn Tigers on Saturday ended up on the losing team. Although he couldn't prevent a 30-17 defeat to Auburn, RB Eric Gray rushed for one TD and 172 yards on 21 carries.
No one had a standout game offensively for the Tigers, but they got scores from WR Anthony Schwartz, RB D.J. Williams, and DB Smoke Monday. Bo Nix's 54-yard touchdown toss to Schwartz in the second quarter made for one of the most memorable moments of the night. Auburn's Monday got in on the action, too, converting a pick in the third quarter into a touchdown.
The loss dropped Tennessee's record to 2-5. The victory was the third in a row for Auburn and raised their record to 5-2.
Tennessee is staying on the road next Saturday to face off against the Vanderbilt Commodores at 7:30 p.m. ET Nov. 28 at Vanderbilt Stadium. These teams both have had a rocky road up to this point with five consecutive losses for Tennessee and seven for Vanderbilt. As for the Tigers, they will go up against the Alabama Crimson Tide at 3:30 p.m. ET next Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Bama has averaged 51.33 points over the course of their past six games, so Auburn might be in for a challenge.
