Eagles' Jalen Hurts: Progressing, eyeing playoff return
Hurts has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Giants, but he's "progressing" through the NFL's five-step concussion protocol and appears on track to practice during the upcoming week and potentially start in the Eagles' wild-card playoff game, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
The Eagles' official injury report also lists Hurts with a left finger injury, but it's the concussion he sustained in the 36-33 loss to the Commanders on Dec. 22 that will keep him out for a second straight game to close out the regular season. With top backup Kenny Pickett (ribs) also not expected to play Week 18, third-stringer Tanner McKee is poised to start the regular-season finale, which carries no playoff implications for a Philadelphia squad that's already locked in as the NFC's No. 2 seed. Hurts didn't practice in any fashion this past week, so a return to even a limited session in the upcoming days would represent the first tangible step forward for the signal-caller as he works his way through the protocol. Until Week 18 action concludes, the Eagles won't know their opponent for the wild-card round, or if they'll host their playoff opener next Saturday, Sunday or Monday. A Monday game would be most ideal for the Eagles and Hurts, as it would provide him with extra time to potentially clear the protocol.

Eagles' Jalen Hurts: Won't play in Week 18
Hurts (concussion/left finger) has been ruled out for Sunday's contest against the Giants.
Hurts hasn't practiced since sustaining a concussion while taking a big hit in the first quarter of a Week 16 loss at Washington. He thus will miss a second game in a row to end the regular season, and his backup Kenny Pickett (ribs), who also didn't practice this week, is listed as questionable for Week 18. Even if Pickett is active for Sunday's 1 p.m. ET matchup, he may be no more than the No. 2 quarterback to Tanner McKee, who told Eliot Shorr-Parks of Sports Radio 94 WIP Philadelphia on Friday that he's preparing for his first NFL start. As for Hurts, he'll turn his focus to getting ready for the wild-card round against the to-be-determined No. 7 seed in the NFC.

Eagles' Jalen Hurts: Not practicing yet
Hurts (concussion/left finger) officially didn't practice Thursday.
This comes as no surprise after Hurts wasn't with his teammates during the portion of Thursday's session open to the media. No. 2 QB Kenny Pickett (ribs) also hasn't taken part in drills this week, leaving Tanner McKee and Ian Book to handle QB reps. With Hurts expected to be among a number of starters to not play Sunday against the Giants, McKee would get the nod under center in that contest if Pickett isn't cleared to suit up.

Eagles' Jalen Hurts: Not seen at practice
Hurts (concussion) wasn't spotted during the media-access portion of Thursday's practice, Brooks Kubena of The Athletic reports.
The same can be said for the Eagles' No. 2 QB Kenny Pickett (ribs), giving the pair just one more chance to mix into drills this week. For Hurts, getting back on the field would mean a notable first step in his recovery from the concussion that he sustained Week 16 at Washington, as he's expected to be held out of Sunday's game against the Giants along with a number of other starters. Meanwhile, Pickett likely will need to practice in some capacity Friday to put his hat in the ring along with Tanner McKee for the Week 18 start.

Eagles' Jalen Hurts: Sits out practice Wednesday
Hurts (concussion/left finger) was a non-participant in Wednesday's walk-through practice.
Both Hurts and his primary backup, Kenny Pickett (ribs), didn't take reps to begin Week 18 prep, leaving Tanner McKee as the next man up at quarterback for the Eagles. Head coach Nick Sirianni told Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer on Wednesday that Hurts and multiple other starters won't play Sunday against the Giants, but Sirianni didn't rule Pickett out from playing, per Martin Frank of The Delaware News Journal. As a result, Pickett and McKee both look to be possibilities to start under center Sunday at this stage of the week.

Eagles' Jalen Hurts: On track to sit Week 18
Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said Wednesday that Hurts (concussion) isn't likely to play Sunday against the Giants, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Sirianni relayed that the Eagles intend to rest a number of starters in the regular-season finale, a list that includes Hurts, who remains in the concussion protocol. It's unclear if Hurts has made any progress in his recovery from the concussion, but the Eagles are still deciding on who will be under center Week 18 after Kenny Pickett started in place of Hurts in last Sunday's win over the Cowboys but was forced out with a rib injury. Tanner McKee finished out that contest and would be next in line to start Week 18 if Pickett can't go, while Ian Book also is on the active roster.
