  • Marcus Semien 2B | TEX

Rangers' Marcus Semien: Back in spring lineup

Semien (illness) will start at second base and bat leadoff in Thursday's Cactus League game against the Giants.

Semien was scratched from the lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against the Reds after falling victim to a stomach bug, but he appears to have made enough strides in his recovery overnight to return to action. He's gotten off to a slow start at the dish during Cactus League play, recording six hits in 32 at-bats.

  • Brandon Drury 2B | CHW

White Sox's Brandon Drury: Impressing in camp

Drury has a chance to earn a roster spot with the White Sox to begin the regular season, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

Drury had a poor 2024 season, but he had previously posted consecutive campaigns with at least an .800 OPS. He has hit well this spring by collecting nine hits across 30 at-bats, including one home run and five doubles. Drury is likely to be a bench bat even if he makes the roster, though he's an option to keep an eye on with so many unproven options in the White Sox's lineup.

  • Payton Eeles 2B | MIN

Twins' Payton Eeles: Out after knee surgery

Eeles will begin the season on the Triple-A injured list after undergoing offseason surgery to address a cartilage issue, the Minnesota Star Tribune reports.

Eeles signed with the Twins for $500 out of an independent league last year and then rose quickly from Low-A to Triple-A during the season. He hit .307/.435/.497 with 12 home runs and 41 stolen bases between three levels and hit .299 with a .919 OPS at Triple-A. It was the first season in the minors for the Cedarville University graduate, so he could be a late bloomer at age 25 if healthy.

  • Cooper Bowman 2B | CIN

Athletics' Cooper Bowman: Returned to Athletics

The Reds returned Rule 5 pick Bowman to the Athletics on Wednesday.

Bowman, 25, went just 3-for-25 at the plate for Cincinnati this spring. He will likely open the 2025 season at Triple-A Las Vegas, where he had just a .592 OPS over 38 contests in 2024.

  • Luis Rengifo 2B | LAA

Angels' Luis Rengifo: Playing in minors game Wednesday

Rengifo (hamstring) will get some at-bats in during a minor-league game Wednesday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Rengifo will not play the field or run the bases as he recovers from a hamstring issue, but playing in the minor-league game will allow him to get his timing down at the plate. The switch hitter has not been ruled out for Opening Day, but between him being eased into camp following last season's wrist surgery and the more recent hamstring issue, he's played in just one Cactus League game thus far.

  • Marcus Semien 2B | TEX

Rangers' Marcus Semien: Scratched due to stomach virus

Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said that Semien was scratched from Wednesday's Cactus League lineup versus the Reds due to "a little stomach virus," Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.

The veteran second baseman should be ready to play in a day or two. Semien has gone 6-for-32 with a couple home runs so far this spring.

  • Justin Foscue 2B | TEX

Rangers' Justin Foscue: Sent to minor-league camp

The Rangers optioned Foscue to minor-league camp Wednesday, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Foscue came into camp likely on the outside looking in for a roster spot and didn't do anything to change minds with a .631 OPS during Cactus League play. The 26-year-old went just 2-for-42 at the dish for the Rangers last season and will begin the 2025 campaign at Triple-A Round Rock.

  • Lenyn Sosa 2B | CHW

White Sox's Lenyn Sosa: Making case for role

Sosa has gone 8-for-22 with four walks and six strikeouts in Cactus League action.

Sosa entered spring training with a strong chance to make the Opening Day roster because he was out of minor-league options. His performance on the field has further helped his case, though it is worth noting that he has only two extra-base hits with no home runs. Sosa doesn't have a clear role in the lineup, but he closed the 2024 campaign with a 1.018 OPS across his final 21 games, giving him more potential than many of the White Sox's projected regulars.

  • Josh Rojas 2B | CHW

White Sox's Josh Rojas: Projected to start at second base

Rojas is expected to begin the regular season as the White Sox's second baseman, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

Rojas joined the White Sox this winter and is one of the few established veterans who is projected to be on the Opening Day roster. While he's played the majority of his career at third base, he's also been roughly an average defensive second baseman. Rojas has also had a decent spring at the plate, maintaining a .304 batting average with two extra-base hits and two stolen bases across 23 at-bats.

  • Royals' Michael Massey: Getting time at multiple positions

Massey has been playing left field this spring in addition to second base, but he is likely to split time at second base with Jonathan India, MLB.com reports. Massey is hitting .385 (10-for-26) this spring.

India should be Kansas City's everyday leadoff hitter but could play several different positions. Massey should sit against most left-handed pitchers, and it's unclear if or when he'll play the outfield. That said, the added versatility can only help him stay in the lineup.
