  • Tigers' Colt Keith: Getting work at first base

Detroit has asked Keith to take grounders at first base this spring, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. This doesn't necessarily mean that Keith will see time during the 2025 campaign at first base, but if he fares well enough at first during the spring, it would give the Tigers more infield flexibility. Justyn-Henry Malloy was also asked to try his hand at first base, so the general focus around the organization appears to be increasing the number of potential infield combinations.

  • Tigers' Colt Keith: Triples, drives in two in win

Keith went 2-for-4 with a triple, a run scored and two RBI in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Rays. Keith plated Detroit's first run of the game on his sixth-inning triple as the Tigers came back from a 3-0 deficit and got one step closer to the playoffs. The rookie has played a key role in his team's resurgence, as he's batting .282 across 20 games in September. Only three of his 20 hits during that stretch have gone for extra bases though, leaving him with a middling .682 OPS for the month.

The 23-year-old sat out Wednesday against the Royals after he suffered a shoulder injury during Tuesday's contest, but he's back in the lineup following Thursday's team off day. Keith is hitting .315 through 14 games in September, though he hasn't supplied a ton of pop with just two extra-base hits.

  • Tigers' Colt Keith: Sitting out with sore shoulder

Keith (shoulder) is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game in Kansas City. Keith was removed from Tuesday's game with a right shoulder injury. Per Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press, Keith was able to test out his arm with some fielding drills pregame Wednesday, suggesting that his absence might not last long. The Tigers are idle Thursday before beginning a weekend series in Baltimore. Zach McKinstry will cover second base Wednesday.

  • Tigers' Colt Keith: Tallies three hits Saturday

Keith went 3-for-4 with a run scored in Saturday's 4-2 loss to the Orioles. Keith had three of Detroit's seven hits as a team as Corbin Burnes and two Baltimore relievers mostly cruised through the lineup. The young infielder is batting a robust .318 this month, which has helped push his season average up to a respectable .263. Keith was batting just .154 at the end of April, so he's come a long way during his rookie campaign. The 23-year-old should be set up for a breakout 2025 campaign now that he's seemingly settled in at the MLB level.

  • Tigers' Colt Keith: Drives in three runs

Keith went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBI, a run scored and a walk in Sunday's win over the White Sox. It was his ninth multi-hit performance of the month and his seventh over the last 12 games. During that 12-game stretch, he's 19-for-50 (.380), but only four of those hits have gone for extra bases. After some early-season struggles (.595 OPS through the end of June), Keith is now slashing .264/.316/.398 with 29 extra-base hits, seven steals and 51 RBI through 119 games.

Keith (hamstring) will serve as the designated hitter and bat in the cleanup spot for Saturday's game against the Yankees. Keith sat out of Friday's contest against the Yankees to recover from lingering soreness in his left hamstring. The 23-year-old appears to be healthy enough to play Saturday, and he will be eased back in as he works as the Tigers' designated hitter. Though Keith hasn't provided the power production he demonstrated in the minors in 2023 -- he slugged 27 home runs between Triple-A Toledo and Double-A Erie -- he's made contact at a steady enough clip (17.8 percent strikeout rate) to keep his batting average afloat.

Seven of his 11 home runs this season have come in the month of July, as he's found a home at the top of the Tigers' lineup. Keith is hitting .347 in July and has raised his slash line to .259/.317/.411 this season.

  • Tigers' Colt Keith: Tallies two hits, swipes base

Keith went 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI in Sunday's 5-1 win over the Reds. He also stole a base. Keith extended his hitting streak to five games, and he's gone 9-for-21 during the stretch with three home runs and a stolen base. The 22-year-old is starting to settle in at the MLB level offensively, plus he's running a bit more than anticipated, as he never stole more than four bases in a season during his time in the minors. Keith is still known more for his power than his speed, but any contribution in the steals category is a welcome bonus.

  • Tigers' Colt Keith: Goes deep twice Friday

Keith went 2-for-5 with two home runs and three total RBI in Friday's 5-4 win over the Reds. Keith hit a solo blast in the third inning, then followed that up with a two-run shot in the fifth. The 22-year-old now has seven home runs this season, with four of them coming in the last 10 games. During that stretch, he's batting .286 with a .945 OPS. Keith seems to be delivering on his prospect potential after a slow start to the year, and he could be a difference maker in fantasy leagues the rest of the way if he keeps this up.
