  • Marlins' Declan Cronin: Set for rehab games

Cronin (hip) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Cronin has been shelved since late March with a left hip strain but has been cleared for game appearances. It's not clear how many rehab outings the Marlins will ask him to make, but Cronin should eventually return to high-leverage work in the Miami bullpen.

  • Marlins' Declan Cronin: Begins throwing program

The Marlins announced Monday that Cronin (hip) has resumed throwing, Kevin Barral of FishonFirst.com reports.

Cronin sustained a left hip strain late in spring training, resulting in him opening the season on the injured list. While the fact that he's no longer shut down from activity is encouraging, he'll likely need at least a few more weeks to complete his throwing progression, which will eventually include some minor-league rehab appearances.

  • Marlins' Declan Cronin: Goes on IL with hip strain

The Marlins placed Cronin on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a left hip strain.

According to MLB.com, Cronin is expected to be out at least a month due to the hip injury, which he sustained late in spring training. The 27-year-old righty will likely handle a setup role out of the Miami bullpen once healthy.

  • Marlins' Declan Cronin: Dealing with hip injury

Cronin is managing left hip discomfort and won't be included on Miami's Opening Day roster, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

The right-hander surrendered nine runs in 5.2 innings during spring training before Miami backed off his throwing program due to the hip issue. Cronin made 56 appearances for the Marlins last year and had a 4.35 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 72:25 K:BB over 70.1 innings. It's unclear how long he's expected to be sidelined by the hip issue.

  • Marlins' Declan Cronin: Healthy, competing for bullpen spot

Cronin (knee) is scheduled to make his second appearance of Grapefruit League play Monday versus the Astros, Kevin Barral of FishonFirst.com reports.

In his first season with Miami in 2024, Cronin submitted a 4.35 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 72:25 K:BB across 70.1 innings over 56 relief appearances, but he didn't pitch in the final week of the campaign after landing on the injured list due to left knee tendinitis. The injury doesn't seem to have delayed him in spring training, but Cronin may need to close camp on a high note to ensure he clinches a spot in Miami's Opening Day bullpen. He lacked command in his first spring outing Thursday against St. Louis, recording two outs while allowing two earned runs on two hits while also hitting a batter and throwing a wild pitch.

  • Marlins' Declan Cronin: Goes on IL with knee tendinitis

The Marlins placed Cronin on the 15-day injured list Friday with left knee tendinitis, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Cronin dealt with an undisclosed injury a few weeks ago, but it's unclear whether that was related to his current issue. The reliever's season will end with him having posted a 4.35 ERA and 72:25 K:BB over 70.1 innings covering 56 appearances.

  • Marlins' Declan Cronin: Moves past undisclosed injury

Cronin (undisclosed) struck out two batters and collected a hold across two perfect innings of relief in his first two appearances of September on Wednesday and Saturday.

Cronin was lifted during an extended relief appearance Aug. 29 in Colorado due to an apparent injury, but he returned to action just under a week later to remove any lingering concern about his health. The 26-year-old righty has picked up four of his six holds on the season in the past month and could be primed to pitch in more high-leverage situations down the stretch with Calvin Faucher (shoulder) recently joining Andrew Nardi (elbow) on the shelf.

  • Marlins' Declan Cronin: Exits with apparent injury

Cronin was removed from Thursday's game against the Rockies due to an apparent injury, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Cronin was able to remain in the game after his first visit from the Marlins' training staff, though the decision was eventually made to pull him after he had trouble fielding a groundball in the sixth inning. It's not immediately apparent what is bothering the 26-year-old righty, but the team should have more information on his status sometime after the game.

  • Marlins' Declan Cronin: Stumbles into All-Star break

Cronin has posted a 3.72 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 49:17 K:BB through 46 innings with one win, two holds and zero saves over 33 appearances.

Claimed off waivers over the winter, Cronin gave the Marlins some quality innings early in the season in a low-leverage role. The league may have figured the right-hander out however -- over his last 12 appearances, he carries a rough 8.27 ERA and 1.84 WHIP. Cronin's biggest strength is a 54.5 percent groundball rate, but he's still been somewhat fortunate to have allowed zero homers so far in 2024. If that luck runs out, further regression could be coming for his ERA. Even if Miami ships out high-leverage relievers like Tanner Scott by the trade deadline, Cronin seems unlikely to take over a prominent role.

  • Marlins' Declan Cronin: Collects first hold

Cronin gave up a hit and struck out one in 1.2 scoreless innings Wednesday, recording his first hold of the season in a win over the Tigers.

The 26-year-old right-hander entered the game in the sixth inning with the Marlins ahead 2-0 and blanked Detroit over 22 pitches (14 strikes) before passing the baton to Andrew Nardi in a combined shutout. Cronin isn't seeing consistent high-leverage usage, but he's been one of the few bright spots in Miami's bullpen this season, posting a 1.33 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 22:10 K:BB through 20.1 innings in a long-relief role.

  • Marlins' Declan Cronin: Recalled from Triple-A

Cronin was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville by the Marlins on Wednesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Cronin made two scoreless relief appearances for the Marlins earlier this season and returns to give the bullpen a fresh arm. He'll operate in middle relief.

  • Marlins' Declan Cronin: Optioned to Triple-A

The Marlins optioned Cronin to Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday.

The right-hander earned a place on Miami's Opening Day roster and appeared in two of the first three games, but he's now being sent to Triple-A. Cronin allowed one unearned run on three hits with a 4:3 K:BB across four innings, which should give him a chance to rejoin the big club later in the season.

  • Marlins' Declan Cronin: Secures Opening Day spot

Cronin will begin the season as part of the Marlins' bullpen.

The 26-year-old right-hander was claimed off waivers from the Astros just before the start of spring training and delivered an 11:5 K:BB through 10.2 Grapefruit League innings for the Marlins. Cronin is expected to work in lower-leverage situations, although his sinker could get him the occasional hold opportunity when Miami needs a double play.

  • Marlins' Declan Cronin: Scooped up by Miami

The Marlins claimed Cronin off waivers from the Astros on Wednesday, Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

It's the third organization Cronin has been in this offseason after he previously went from the White Sox to the Astros via waivers. The 26-year-old sinkerballer allowed 11 runs over 11 innings for Chicago in 2023 in his first go-round in the majors.

  • Astros' Declan Cronin: Removed from 40-man roster

Cronin was designated for assignment by the Astros on Wednesday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Cronin will lose his spot on the 40-man roster in favor of Trey Cabbage, who was acquired via trade. The 26-year-old was a waiver claim from the White Sox earlier this month and he'll now go through the waiver process again.

  • Astros' Declan Cronin: Claimed by Astros

The Astros claimed Cronin off waivers from the White Sox on Thursday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Cronin had been designated for assignment last week. The 26-year-old reliever yielded 11 runs over 11 innings for Chicago in 2023 in his first taste of big-league action. Cronin doesn't miss many bats but has consistently posted groundball rates well over 50 percent during his time in the minors.

  • White Sox's Declan Cronin: Designated for assignment

The White Sox designated Cronin for assignment Thursday.

Cronin will lose his spot on Chicago's 40-man roster in order to make room for Tim Hill, who signed with the White Sox on Thursday. Despite logging a respectable 3.83 ERA through 51.2 frames with Triple-A Charlotte in 2023, Cronin struggled to find his footing in the big leagues, surrendering 11 runs in 11 innings over nine appearances.

  • White Sox's Declan Cronin: Returns to majors

The White Sox recalled Cronin from Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

As Jesse Scholtens heads to the injured list, Cronin will return to the major-league roster a day after being optioned to the minors. The 26-year-old righty has given up 10 runs through 7.2 innings with the White Sox this season, so he likely still won't see much action while with Chicago.

  • White Sox's Declan Cronin: Activated, optioned to Charlotte

The White Sox activated Cronin (hand) from the 15-day injured list Saturday and optioned him to Triple-A Charlotte.

Blisters on Cronin's right (throwing) hand forced him to the injured list Sept. 9. He allowed two runs over two innings in a rehab assignment with Charlotte, and he'll remain in the minors now that he's healthy.
