Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Undergoes flexor tendon surgery

Hoerner underwent surgery Oct. 11 to repair his right flexor tendon, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.
It's not clear when Hoerner suffered the injury, nor did the Cubs offer a timetable for his recovery. The second baseman should be ready to roll come Opening Day, although it's possible he'll be eased into things in spring training. Hoerner slashed .273/.335/.373 with seven home runs and 31 stolen bases over 151 games for the Cubs in 2024.

Hoerner had a pedestrian stat line but managed to salvage things a bit in the season finale with his 31st stolen base. Over the last two years, the infielder has a total of 74 steals. Heading into 2025, Hoerner's greatest fantasy asset remains his speed, as he only has 29 career home runs across six seasons in the majors.

Hoerner went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored in Friday's 1-0 win over the Reds.
Hoerner helped manufacture the only run of the contest when he doubled to lead off the bottom of the fifth, then got bunted over to third before coming home on a sacrifice fly. The speedy infielder has three straight multi-hit performances, and over his last 10 games, he's slashing a sizzling .486/.526/.743 with two home runs, five RBI and nine runs scored.
Hoerner went 2-for-4 with two home runs and four total RBI in Wednesday's 9-6 loss to the Phillies.
This was an unexpected power surge, as Hoerner came into the contest with only five home runs all season through 147 games. The infielder went deep with two runners on in the fourth inning, and then added a solo shot in the sixth. It was the first multi-homer effort of the 27-year-old's career. While it was a pleasant surprise, fantasy managers should still expect more speed than power from Hoerner moving forward based on his MLB track record.

Hoerner continued his hot streak, as he's now batting .421 over his last 10 games with seven runs scored. The speedy infielder likely won't match last season's 43 stolen bases, as he has 30 steals with just four games remaining, but it's still been a solid campaign. Hoerner isn't a huge power threat, though his ability to get on base and swipe a bag gives him plenty of fantasy upside.
Hoerner is absent from the lineup for Sunday's game versus the Nationals.
Hoerner will receive a rare day off after starting in each of the previous 12 tilts. Miles Mastrobuoni will pick up the start at second base for the Cubs.
Hoerner went 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored in Monday's 9-2 win over the Athletics.
Hoerner chipped in two of Chicago's 18 hits and recorded the team's only walk in the easy win. The infielder is batting .327 this month, which has pushed his season average up to .264. Hoerner is mostly a contact hitter, but he's at his best once he's on the basepaths, as he leads the Cubs with 29 stolen bases in 34 attempts.
