Riley was waived/injured by the Buccaneers recently after he suffered a slight Achilles tear in mid-June. However, he'll now return to the team via injured reserve after he went unclaimed on waivers. It's not clear when the safety will be able to return.

Riley suffered a slight Achilles tear during Wednesday's practice, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Per Stroud, the injury occurred after Riley was tangled up with Rob Gronkowski and Kevin Minter in practice. It's unclear how long the injury will keep Riley out, but his absence won't affect much from a fantasy perspective.

Vikings' Curtis Riley: Catches on in Minnesota
Riley is set to sign with the Vikings on Thursday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Riley has been in the league since 2016, taking snaps for four different organizations. His best year was 2018 with the Giants, when he recorded 75 combined tackles and four interceptions while appearing in all 16 games. He did a appear in a few games for Arizona in 2020, but was demoted to the practice squad and later cut in early October. Riley, who should be available by Week 9, will help provide depth to cover for the loss of Georgia Iloka, who was placed on IR last week after suffering a torn ACL.

Curtis Riley: Let go by Cardinals
The Cardinals released Riley on Tuesday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.
Riley started this past Sunday's loss to the Panthers and played 79 percent of defensive snaps, recording six tackles. This move signals that Jalen Thompson (ankle) could return from IR soon, and perhaps Chris Banjo (hamstring) and Budda Baker (thumb) are nearing returns as well. If Riley clears waivers, he could land on the Cardinals' practice squad.

Cardinals' Curtis Riley: Called upon to start Week 4
Defensive coordinator Vance Joseph said Thursday that Riley will start during Sunday's game against the Panthers, Kevin Zimmerman of ArizonaSports.com reports.

While starting all 16 games for the Giants in 2018, Riley put up his best season by a long shot, totaling 75 tackles and four interceptions (one pick six) in 16 starts. He was merely a fill-in with the Raiders last year, but he did earn three starts while playing a full slate en route to 34 stops. Expect Riley to fill a similar depth role behind starting free safety Minkah Fitzpatrick this season.

Raiders' Curtis Riley: Plays in all 16 games
Riley had 34 tackles (27 solo), one pass defensed and one forced fumble in 16 games this season.
The 27-year-old filled a rotational role in the secondary for most of the season, but he did receive three starts, including Week 17 when he posted seven solo tackles and a forced fumble. Overall it was still somewhat of a disappointing season for Riley, as his playing time was limited despite Johnathan Abram (shoulder) landing on injured reserve after the season opener. Riley returns to free agency in March after a season of inconsistent defensive opportunities on a porous pass defense.

Raiders' Curtis Riley: Signs one-year deal with Oakland
Riley is signing a one-year contract with the Raiders, Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
Riley went undrafted in 2015 and barely played until 2018, but he emerged as a 16-game starter for the Giants last season, piling up 75 tackles (63 solo), five passes defensed and four interceptions (including one for a TD). He was far less reliable than the stat line suggests, as Pro Football Focus charged him with the most missed tackles (23) of any defensive back in the NFL. The Raiders signed fellow safety Lamarcus Joyner to a much larger contract earlier this offseason, but it won't come as any surprise if he takes most of his snaps at slot cornerback, thus freeing up a spot for Riley as the free safety in nickel packages. From an IDP perspective, strong safety Karl Joseph offers the highest ceiling in the Oakland secondary.

Some teams have shown interest in Riley, though the young safety has been weighing all of his options before deciding on a final free agency destination. He's coming off a 2018 season that saw him record 75 tackles and four interceptions while starting all 16 games for the Giants. If he does sign with the Bengals he'll likely slot in as one of the team's starting safeties.

Riley appeared in only 11 games for the Titans across his first two NFL seasons, logging just 12 tackles during that stretch. He started at free safety for the Giants through the entire 2018 regular season and strongly exceeded expectations, notching the second-most interceptions on the team (four) after Alec Ogletree (five). Riley is set to become a restricted free agent this offseason.

Riley injured his wrist in Sunday's win against the Redskins, but it doesn't seem to be too severe because he practiced fully Wednesday. The Fresno State product was still able to log three tackles (two solo) and a pick-six over 58 defensive snaps Sunday against Washington.
