Texans' Azeez Al-Shaair: Past knee injury
Al-Shaair (knee) participated in Wednesday's organized team activities, Drew Dougherty of the Texans' official site reports.
Al-Shaair picked up a knee injury during the Texans' divisional-round loss to the Chiefs, but he now appears to have moved past the issue. The Florida Atlantic product served as Houston's top middle linebacker last season, recording 70 total tackles, including 2.0 sacks, four passes defended and two forced fumbles over 11 regular-season contests. With Al-Shaair back at full health, he's expected to remain one of the Texans' top defensive playmakers in 2025.

Texans' Azeez Al-Shaair: Records 70 tackles in 2024
Al-Shaair (knee) finished the 2024 season with 70 tackles (45 solo), including 2.0 sacks, four pass breakups and two forced fumbles across 11 regular-season games.
Al-Shaair missed three games with a knee injury and was then suspended later in the year after a helmet-to-helmet hit concussed Trevor Lawrence in Week 15. Al-Shaair returned for Week 18 and started both playoff contests but again dealt with knee issues to close out the campaign. After recording double-digit tackles eight times in 2023 with the Titans, Al-Shaair did it just twice this past season in Houston, with none coming after Week 3. The veteran linebacker has two years left on a three-year, $34 million deal.

Al-Shaair (knee) is questionable to return to Saturday's AFC divisional-round matchup against Kansas City.
Al-Shaair dealt with a knee issue during the week and logged a DNP/LP/LP practice progression. He twice visited the medical tent during the first quarter of Saturday's matchup against the Chiefs and has been deemed questionable to return to the contest. Al-Shaair (knee) is active for Saturday's AFC divisional-round matchup against Kansas City.
As expected, Al-Shaair will suit up for the battle against the defending Super Bowl champions despite dealing with a knee injury. The issue caused the veteran linebacker to miss practice Tuesday, but he was able to participate in a limited fashion both Wednesday and Thursday. Al-Shaair played all but one defensive snap last Saturday against the Chargers in the wild-card round and posted six tackles.

Al-Shaair (knee) is expected to play Saturday against the Chiefs, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Al-Shaair is officially listed as questionable, but Wilson's report cites sources that indicate both the linebacker and running back Joe Mixon (ankle) are "good to go" for Saturday's divisional-round playoff game. Al-Shaair played 98 percent of the defensive snaps in last week's win over the Chargers, checking out of the game for one play after sustaining the knee injury. He finished with six tackles and two quarterback hits.

Al-Shaair had a DNP/LP/LP practice log this week due to a knee injury he picked up during the Texans' wild-card win against the Chargers. Despite opening the week with an absence at practice, Al-Shaair is on track to play in Saturday's divisional-round matchup with the Chiefs, per Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston. Al-Shaair was forced out for one play in this past Saturday's 32-12 win over the Chargers in the wild-card round due to the knee injury, but he immediately checked back into the contest and finished with six tackles. Texans' Azeez Al-Shaair: Eligible to return Week 18
Al-Shaair had his three-game suspension lifted Thursday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Al-Shaair was suspended Dec. 3 following an illegal hit on Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence (shoulder) in Week 13. Al-Shaair has now sat out the required three games and is eligible to suit up Sunday, Jan. 5 against Tennessee in Houston's regular-season finale. The veteran linebacker will presumably reprise his starting role as the Texans gear up for the postseason.
