Colts' Jonathan Taylor: Ruled out for Week 5
Colts head coach Shane Steichen said Friday that Taylor (ankle) is ruled out for Sunday's matchup against the Jaguars, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports.
Taylor will miss at least one contest due to the right ankle sprain he sustained during Indianapolis' win over the Steelers in Week 4. The star running back didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday, and he wasn't spotted at the portion of Friday's practice open to the media. Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson will be positioned to lead the Colts backfield until Taylor is healthy, with his next opportunity to retake the field coming Week 6 on the road against Tennessee.

Colts' Jonathan Taylor: Not seen as practice opens
Taylor (ankle) wasn't spotted during the initial portion of Friday's practice, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
Taylor, who is dealing with an ankle sprain, didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday, so his apparent absence early on Friday clouds his status for Sunday's game against the Jaguars. The Colts' upcoming injury report is slated to confirm both Taylor's official participation level Friday as well as his Week 5 game status.

Colts' Jonathan Taylor: Misses another practice
Taylor (ankle) didn't practice Thursday.
Taylor, who has missed two straight practices, noted Thursday that he's taking it "day by day" as Sunday's game against the Jaguars approaches, James Boyd of The Athletic reports. The running back now has one more chance to practice before the Colts issue their final Week 5 injury report, but if Taylor is limited or out this weekend, Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson are next up for backfield work.

Colts' Jonathan Taylor: Not expected to practice Thursday
Taylor, who continues to deal with an ankle sprain, isn't likely to practice Thursday, Stephen Holder of ESPN.com reports.
The Colts' upcoming injury report will reveal whether Taylor-- who also didn't practice Wednesday -- indeed is deemed a non-participant for the second day in a row. If that ends up being the case, he'll have one more opportunity to practice ahead of Sunday's game against the Jaguars. Per Nate Atkins of The Indianapolis Star, Taylor relayed Thursday that his current ankle issue is not as severe as the one that he contended with during the 2022 season.

Colts' Jonathan Taylor: Not practicing Wednesday
Colts head coach Shane Steichen said that Taylor (ankle) won't practice Wednesday, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
Taylor thus has two more chances to return to practice ahead of Sunday's game against the Jaguars, but for now, his Week 5 status is cloudy. If he's unavailable this weekend, Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson are next up for snaps out of the backfield, with Evan Hull and Trent Pennix being candidates to be elevated from the practice squad.

Colts' Jonathan Taylor: Not a candidate for IR
The Colts are not considering injured reserve as an option for Taylor, who sustained a mild high-ankle sprain during Sunday's 27-24 win over the Steelers in Week 4, Mike Chappell of Fox 59 News Indianapolis reports.
Taylor would have to miss at least four games if he's placed on IR, but it doesn't look like Indianapolis believes the star running back will require that long of a timeframe to complete his recovery. Still, even if Taylor's high-ankle sprain isn't as serious as similar issues he's dealt with in the past, such injuries more often than not result in players having to spend some time on the sideline. Trey Sermon will figure to operate as the Colts' starting running back if Taylor can't suit up on the road against Jacksonville on Sunday, while Tyler Goodson would step into the No. 2 role.

Colts' Jonathan Taylor: High-ankle sprain viewed as mild
Taylor was diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain after Sunday's 27-24 win over the Steelers, but it's believed to be a mild version of the injury, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Taylor will get additional tests Monday to confirm the diagnosis, but the early news on the ankle injury that forced him out of Sunday's win is relatively positive. This high-ankle sprain isn't believed to be as bad as some of the previous ones Taylor has dealt with. Nonetheless, Taylor may miss some game action, and Trey Sermon would be in line to lead Indianapolis' backfield in Week 5 against the Jaguars if Taylor doesn't play.
