Sims (back) was a full practice participant Thursday.
Sims was unable to play in Week 7 against the Packers due to a back injury. He was held out of practice Wednesday, but he was able to practice without restrictions Thursday. Unless he suffers a setback, Sims should be good to go for Sunday's AFC South clash against Indianapolis. Sims has logged 89 kick-return yards and 56 punt-return yards across five regular-season games this year.

Sims (back) has been downgraded from questionable to out ahead of Sunday's game against the Packers.
Sims was a late addition to the Texans' injury report Friday due to a back issue. While he was initially listed as questionable, the injury is severe enough that Sims will not travel with the team to Green Bay, and his next chance at suiting up will be Week 8 against the Colts on Oct. 27. With Robert Woods (foot) also not playing Sunday, Dameon Pierce and Tank Dell are the likely candidates to serve kickoff and punt-return duties, respectively.

Texans' Steven Sims: Muffed punt leads to points
Sims wasn't targeted over two offensive snaps, returned two punts for 10 yards and muffed a punt in Sunday's 24-20 win over Jacksonville.
After the Jaguars' initial drive of the game stalled, Sims had the mishap on a punt return, putting the visitors in business at Houston's two-yard line. From there, Trevor Lawrence found rookie Brian Thomas in the end zone for an early 7-0 lead. Sims has operated as the Texans' primary returner of punts and also handles kickoffs as well. That he was back returning kicks following the miscue suggests his return role still is intact. Sims also played on offense for first time in four games, as Houston was without Tank Dell (chest).

Texans' Steven Sims: Makes 53-man roster
Sims made the Texans' initial 53-man roster Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Sims was one of seven wide receivers to claim a roster spot, and his ability to contribute as a return man in the main reason. The 27-year-old, who returned a punt 67 yards for a touchdown during last season's playoff loss to the Ravens, averaged 12.3 yards on four punt returns and 23.7 yards on three kick returns in 2023.

Sims agreed Wednesday to re-sign with the Texans, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
In three regular-season appearance and one postseason game with the Texans in 2023, Sims caught three passes for 25 yards and ran once for one yard. He also served as a return man on punts and kickoffs, and his continued success in that capacity during the Texans' offseason program and the preseason will likely represent his best path to winning a roster spot with Houston to begin the 2024 season.

Sims suffered a concussion in Saturday's divisional-round loss to Baltimore, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Sims scored the only touchdown of the game for Houston, returning a punt 67 yards for a score in the second quarter. He didn't record any targets in the passing game, however, and suffered a concussion during the contest. With the Texans eliminated from the postseason, Sims will look to get well as he heads into the offseason as a free agent.

Steven Sims: Returns to practice squad
Sims reverted to the Texans' practice squad Monday.
Sims was elevated to the active roster ahead of the team's Week 15 overtime win over the Titans, operating mostly as a special-teams option. He turned three kick returns into 71 yards while also returning two punts for 33 yards. Sims also played seven offensive snaps, catching one pass for no gain and gaining a yard on his only carry. The wide receiver's biggest impact may have come when he recovered a fumble by quarterback Case Keenum. Sims could be asked to return to the active roster again in Week 16 if Nico Collins (calf) is unavailable versus the Browns.
