Islanders' Jean-Gabriel Pageau: Strikes for shorthanded goal
Pageau scored a shorthanded goal in Thursday's 5-4 overtime loss to Utah.
Pageau was able to put the Islanders ahead briefly with a third-period tally on a rebound from a Simon Holmstrom shot. Pageau has scored at least one shorthanded goal in six straight seasons, and he has 21 such tallies in his career. The defensive center's production took a step back with 33 points in 82 regular-season games last year, but with the Islanders looking to produce more offense in 2024-25, a rising tide may lift all ships. Pageau is also a steady source of hits and could feature on the second power-play unit throughout the year.

Pageau (lower body) is expected to suit up for Game 2 against the Hurricanes on Monday, Arthur Staple of The Athletic reports.

Pageau (lower body) could be a game-time decision for Game 2 against Carolina on Monday, Sean Roarke of NHL.com reports.

The 31-year-old forward had 11 goals and 33 points this season in a middle-six role. If Pageau ultimately can't suit up, Simon Holmstrom would likely remain in the lineup.

Islanders' Jean-Gabriel Pageau: Two points including GWG
Pageau scored the game-winning goal and added an assist in Thursday's 3-2 victory over the Panthers.
The 31-year-old center jumped on a loose puck and slid it past Anthony Stolarz midway through the second period, giving the Isles their first and only lead of the game. Pageau's last multi-point performance came March 2, and on the season he's produced 10 goals and 30 points in 72 contests. He's also tied his career high with 175 hits, and his 72 blocked shots has him seven back of matching his personal best in that category as well.

Islanders' Jean-Gabriel Pageau: Garners assist in win
Pageau notched an assist and two hits in Thursday's 7-2 win over the Sharks.
Pageau set up Noah Dobson's goal 19 seconds into the game. With a goal and three assists over three games in March, it's already been a more productive month for Pageau than February was -- he had just two points over 10 outings last month. The 31-year-old center is up to 26 points, 76 shots on net, 156 hits, 58 blocked shots and a minus-6 rating through 62 appearances. He should continue to log middle-six minutes as a strong defensive center.

Islanders' Jean-Gabriel Pageau: Surfaces with two helpers
Pageau earned two assists in Saturday's 5-1 win over the Bruins.
The helpers are nice and all, but Pageau still has only 24 points through 60 games as a middle-six contributor with a role on the secondary man-advantage unit. It doesn't help that in this campaign, he's averaging only 1.22 shots per game compared to a 1.76 rate between eight years with the Senators and five years running for the Isles. Pageau does have a goal and five assists shorthanded in 2023-24, but it comes at the expense of a single power-play point. All told, Pageau is best viewed as an option in deep leagues.

Islanders' Jean-Gabriel Pageau: Nets lone goal in loss
Pageau scored a goal and added six hits in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Predators.
Pageau got a piece of a Noah Dobson shot and tipped in the Islanders' lone goal with eight minutes left in the third period. The tally snapped a six-game slump for Pageau since his four-point eruption versus the Capitals on Dec. 29. The center has moved down to the fourth line in recent contests due to the absence of Casey Cizikas (lower body). Pageau has been less effective than usual with five goals, 18 points, 52 shots on net, 87 hits and 43 blocked shots through 42 appearances this season.

Pageau scored the game-winner in overtime in a 3-2 victory over the Kings on Saturday.
He slid a backhand five-hole on Cam Talbot just 13 seconds into the extra period to complete the Islanders' comeback win. It was Pageau's first overtime goal since Nov. 7, 2019, which came as a member of the Senators. Unfortunately, his two goals and 10 points in 26 games this season don't make him much of a fantasy force.

Islanders' Jean-Gabriel Pageau: Mirrors output from last season
Pageau earned an assist in Saturday's 4-0 win over the Flyers.
Pageau's apple puts him at 39 points (13 goals, 26 assists) on the season, matching his total from last season in nine fewer games. The Isles utilize Pageau on the power play and penalty kill, so his opportunities should remain plentiful, especially with the team currently tied with the Panthers for the first wild-card playoff spot out of the Eastern Conference.
