  • Flames' Jake Bean: Assists in consecutive outings

Bean logged an assist, two shots on goal and two blocked shots in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Flyers. Bean has a helper in each of his first two games as a Flame. He's added three blocked shots, two shots on goal and a plus-1 rating while filling a third-pairing role. Bean doesn't have a path to consistent power-play time, so he's unlikely to sustain his recent success on offense. He's still doing enough to keep his place in the lineup, though he was tagged for five giveaways Saturday, which could be a problem if he can't get it under control.

  • Flames' Jake Bean: Logs helper Wednesday

Bean recorded an assist in Wednesday's 6-5 overtime win over the Canucks. Bean helped out on Jonathan Huberdeau's go-ahead goal midway through the third period. This was Bean's Flames debut after the Calgary native signed with his hometown team as a free agent in July. The oft-injured defenseman is set to fill a third-pairing role, though he could rotate out of the lineup for Joel Hanley on occasion. Bean was limited to 13 points with 76 shots on net and 110 blocked shots in 72 appearances with the Blue Jackets last year, so he is unlikely to offer much in the way of fantasy value.

  • Flames' Jake Bean: Expected to play Wednesday

Bahl (lower body) is expected to play in Wednesday's preseason game against the Jets, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports. Bahl sustained a lower-body injury during last Wednesday's exhibition game against the Canucks, but he should be back in action against Winnipeg. The 26-year-old made 72 regular-season appearances with Columbus last year, tallying four goals and 13 points.

  • Flames' Jake Bean: Remains sidelined

Bean (lower body) isn't practicing Saturday, Wes Gilbertson of the Calgary Sun reports. It's the third practice Bean will miss since suffering the injury in a preseason game against Vancouver on Wednesday. The 26-year-old blueliner signed a two-year deal with the Flames after tallying four goals and 13 points with the Blue Jackets last season.

  • Flames' Jake Bean: Held out Thursday

Bean (undisclosed) didn't participate in Thursday's practice session for maintenance reasons. Bean's absence from practice comes after he was injured in the third period of Wednesday's preseason clash with Vancouver. The fact that the team referred to his absence as maintenance should clear the way for him to return to action ahead of either Saturday or Monday's preseason matchups with Vancouver and Seattle, respectively. Considering the 26-year-old's ceiling is probably in the 20-25 point range, he is unlikely to offer more than mid-range fantasy value this year.

  • Flames' Jake Bean: Exits game in third period

Bean (undisclosed) exited Wednesday's preseason game versus the Canucks in the third period, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports. There was no update available on Bean's status after the contest. The 26-year-old defenseman can be considered day-to-day ahead of Saturday's preseason rematch with the Canucks.

  • Jake Bean: Not expected to receive QO

Bean (hand) is not expected to get a qualifying offer from Columbus on Sunday, according to PuckPedia. As a result, Bean will be eligible to test the open market Monday as an unrestricted free agent. The 26-year-old rearguard contributed four goals, nine points, 76 shots on net and 110 blocked shots in 72 games during the 2023-24 campaign. He sat out the final six games of the regular season after suffering a broken hand against the Islanders on April 4. Bean could be healthy before training camps open in the fall, so the injury shouldn't impact his ability to find a new deal elsewhere.

  • Blue Jackets' Jake Bean: Done for season

Bean will miss the remainder of the 2023-24 campaign after suffering a broken hand during Thursday's 4-2 loss to the Islanders. Bean will finish the season with four goals, 13 points, 32 PIM, 28 hits and 110 blocks in 72 games. Adam Boqvist (upper body) is also out indefinitely, so the Blue Jackets are down to five healthy defensemen and will likely recall someone from the minors before Saturday's tilt versus the Flyers. Bean is set to become a restricted free agent with arbitration rights this summer after finishing his three-year, $7 million deal. If Bean re-signs with the Blue Jackets, he will probably serve primarily in a third-pairing role next season.

  • Blue Jackets' Jake Bean: Out for season

Bean (undisclosed) will miss the remainder of the season, per Coby Maeir of 1st Ohio Battery. Bean was injured after blocking a shot Thursday against the Islanders. He'll finish the season with four goals, nine assists and 110 blocked shots in 72 appearances. Look for the Blue Jackets to recall a defenseman ahead of Saturday's game versus Philadelphia, as they currently have only five healthy rearguards on the roster.

  • Blue Jackets' Jake Bean: Will miss time

Bean (undisclosed) will be out for "a while" after exiting Thursday's game versus the Isles in the third period following a blocked shot, Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site reports. A roster move is likely incoming, as the Blue Jackets currently have just five healthy defensemen. Given the time of the year and the team's poor placement in the standings, Bean could be shut down for the rest of the campaign due to even a moderate injury. Jake Christiansen is the most likely candidate to rise to the NHL roster as a replacement.

  • Blue Jackets' Jake Bean: Puts away goal Saturday

Bean scored a goal on two shots in Saturday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Canucks. Bean converted off a turnover created by Yegor Chinakhov's takeaway. With five points over his last 13 outings, Bean has at least put up respectable offense for a bottom-four defenseman lately. He's at eight points, 61 shots on net, 66 blocked shots and a minus-12 rating through 45 appearances, so most fantasy managers can do better for their defensive depth.

  • Blue Jackets' Jake Bean: Gets rare point

Bean scored a goal Thursday in a 3-2 shootout win over the Flyers. Bean has three points, including two goals, in his last five games after wallowing through a 26-game point drought. But he also got danced by Travis Konecny on one of the Philly goals, exposing his defensive limits. Bean has the skating and offensive skills to contribute fantasy points, but at 25, he's yet to play a full NHL season. Don't over-invest. That drought is still too fresh.

  • Blue Jackets' Jake Bean: Point drought at 23 games

Bean recorded two blocked shots, a shot on net and a hit in Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Panthers. The 25-year-old blueliner continues to draw a regular shift for Columbus with Damon Severson (oblique) and Adam Boqvist (shoulder) both on injured reserve, but Bean hasn't done much with his opportunities. He's gone 23 games without registering a point, last getting onto a scoresheet with an assist Oct. 24 against the Ducks. During that drought, he's recorded 30 blocked shots, 25 shots on goal, 10 PIM, eight hits and a minus-7 rating. Despite his pedigree as the 13th overall pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, Bean has never been able to make an impact in the NHL, and he seems unlikely to be brought back as a restricted free agent next season given his current $2.3 million salary.

  • Blue Jackets' Jake Bean: Bends twine Thursday

Bean scored a goal on two shots versus the Flyers on Thursday. Bean managed just one goal in 14 matches last season, so fantasy players shouldn't expect him to start scoring with regularity. Still, during the 2021-22 campaign, the blueliner played significantly more games (67) and racked up seven goals over that stretch.

  • Blue Jackets' Jake Bean: Ready to return

Bean (shoulder) is expected to play in Wednesday's preseason game against Buffalo. Bean will make his 2023 exhibition debut after being out with an abductor strain since the beginning of training camp. He produced six points, 16 shots on goal, 21 blocked shots and 13 hits in 14 games with the Blue Jackets last season. Bean is competing for a depth spot on the roster going into the 2023-24 campaign.

  • Blue Jackets' Jake Bean: Considered week-to-week

Bean (shoulder) is regarded as week-to-week as training camp begins, per Aaron Portzline of The Athletic. Bean recorded a goal and six points in 14 games in 2022-23. He hasn't played since Nov. 15, 2022 because of the injury.

  • Blue Jackets' Jake Bean: Undergoes shoulder surgery

Bean (torn labrum) had successful shoulder surgery and will miss the next 4-6 months. Bean had the surgery Nov. 23 and could miss the rest of the season. The defenseman had a goal and five assists in 14 games prior to the injury.

  • Blue Jackets' Jake Bean: Sustains upper-body injury

Bean suffered an upper-body injury and will not return to Tuesday's game versus the Flyers. Bean was injured in the second period, falling to the ice after taking a hit in the corner. The defenseman joins a lengthy list of injured Blue Jackets -- the team is already missing three of its regular blueliners. If Bean misses time, expect Gavin Bayreuther to enter the lineup and Vladislav Gavrikov to take on extra responsibility.

  • Blue Jackets' Jake Bean: Not playing Friday

Bean (illness) will not play Friday, Blue Jackets team reporter Jeff Svoboda reports. Bean has missed practice the last two days with the illness. His spot on the bottom-pairing will be taken by Gavin Bayreuther. Bean has a goal and four points in eight games in the 2022-23 season.

  • Blue Jackets' Jake Bean: Misses practice Thursday

Bean (illness) did not practice Thursday, per Brian Hedger of The Columbus Dispatch. Bean has been productive in a bottom-paring role with Columbus to start the year, logging a goal and three assists in his last four games. The 24-year-old defenseman should be considered day-to-day in advance of Friday's matchup with the Bruins. Gavin Bayreuther would likely slot into the Jackets' third pairing should Bean miss time.
