Cardinals' Dylan Carlson: Sitting against lefty
Carlson is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Nationals.
Carlson started the first three games of the series versus lefties but went just 1-for-11 with six strikeouts. He'll begin the series finale on the bench as the Nationals send another southpaw, Mitchell Parker, to the hill. Lars Nootbaar was activated from the injured list Monday and will take back his usual spot in right field, while Michael Siani covers center field.

Cardinals' Dylan Carlson: Seeing steady starts against LHPs
Carlson will start in center field and bat eighth in Sunday's game against the Nationals.
The switch-hitting Carlson will make his fourth consecutive start, with all coming against left-handed pitching. Carlson hasn't started against a right-handed pitcher since June 24 and still looks to be stuck in a short-side platoon role. He heads into Sunday's game with a .198/.273/.245 slash line and a 24 percent strikeout rate over 121 plate appearances on the season.

Carlson went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI in Friday's victory over Colorado.
Carlson enjoyed his best game of the season, notching three RBI in a contest for the first time since June 20, 2023. The 25-year-old outfielder tied the game in the sixth with an RBI single before knocking a decisive two-run double in the eighth to extend the St. Louis lead to 8-5. Perhaps this success will spur on Carlson, as he entered the night slashing .128/.241/.128 over 54 plate appearances.

Cardinals' Dylan Carlson: Back on bench in Donovan's return
Carlson is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Astros.
Carlson started in right field in each of the Cardinals' three games in Philadelphia over the weekend, going 1-for-9 with a walk. Though the Cardinals have an opening in the outfield while Lars Nootbaar (oblique) is out indefinitely, the team will get Brendan Donovan (neck) back from a three-game absence Monday. Donovan is starting in left field and will be joined in the outfield by Mike Siani and Alec Burleson, who could continue to play ahead of the switch-hitting Carlson against right-handed pitching.
