  • Giants' Austin Schlottmann: Suffers broken fibula Wednesday

The Giants placed Schlottmann (leg) on the reserve/injured list Thursday, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.

Schlottmann suffered a broken fibula when he got rolled up during practice Wednesday, and while he won't need surgery, he's expected to be out for 8-to-10 weeks, per Dan Duggan of The Athletic. Schlottmann fractured his fibula in Week 17 of the 2022 season, but he was healthy for training camp and appeared in nine regular-season games (including three starts) for the Vikings in 2023. The timeline for his recovery would slate his return for late October or early November.

Schlottmann (lower leg) will begin rehabbing in early March and is expected to be fully healthy for the 2023 season, Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

  • Vikings' Austin Schlottmann: Scheduled for surgery

Schlottmann, who was placed on IR on Tuesday, will require surgery to repair a fractured fibula suffered in Sunday's loss to the Packers, Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com reports.

Schlottmann's move to IR essentially ended his season, although he'd technically be eligible to be activated if the Vikings were to make it to the Super Bowl. However, the 27-year-old will likely focus on recovering over the next several weeks and preparing to return healthy next season. With Garrett Bradbury (back) also ailing, the Vikings are down their top options at center and have turned to veteran Greg Mancz, who was signed Tuesday, to likely take over the position.

Although it sounds unlikely the 300-pounder will be available for the Super Bowl should the Vikings make a deep postseason run, the team signed veteran center Greg Mancz to its active roster Tuesday, while usual starter Garrett Bradbury (back) could be back come playoff time.
