  • Nolan Arenado 3B | STL

Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Back in lineup, batting sixth

Arenado (forearm) will start at third base and bat sixth in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader versus Atlanta.

Arenado had been set to return Tuesday from a left forearm injury before that game was rained out, but he'll remain in the lineup for the makeup game. The sixth spot in the batting order represents the lowest that Arenado has slotted in his four seasons with the Cardinals. He's slashing just .257/.315/.371 on the season and hasn't hit a home run since June 5.

  • Bryan Reynolds LF | PIT

Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Four homers in six games

Reynolds went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and two runs scored Tuesday against the Reds.

Reynolds extended his hitting streak to 22 games, but his power has been particularly notable of late. Across his last six starts, he has gone deep four times to bring his total on the season to 13. Across the entirety of his hitting streak, Reynolds has hit .360 with 16 RBI and 15 runs.

  • Nick Gonzales 2B | PIT

Pirates' Nick Gonzales: Snaps out of slump

Gonzales went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored Tuesday against the Reds.

Gonzales was in a cold spell entering Tuesday's contest, as he had gone just 1-for-23 with eight strikeouts across his past seven games. He snapped out of that slump with his second three-hit performance of the season. Despite the recent downturn, Gonzales has enjoyed his most sustained success in the majors, maintaining a .282 average and .755 OPS across 161 plate appearances.

  • Noelvi Marte 3B | CIN

Reds' Noelvi Marte: Looks set to join big club Thursday

The Reds announced Wednesday that Marte (suspension) has rejoined the team after completing his rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville.

Marte won't be eligible to return from his 80-game suspension until Thursday's series opener in St. Louis, but since he's back in Cincinnati rather than sticking around in Louisville, the Reds are presumably preparing to add him back to the 26-man active roster ahead of their four-game series this weekend. The 22-year-old struggled to regain his timing at the plate during the rehab assignment, slashing .151/.151/.170 with no walks and a 28.3 percent strikeout rate over 12 games. However, after Marte posted an .822 OPS in 123 plate appearances in his first taste of the big leagues in 2023, the Reds look as though they'll allow him to iron out the kinks in the majors. He's seen action at third base, second base and shortstop during his rehab assignment and may have to settle for more of a utility role with the Reds initially until he performs well enough to warrant everyday playing time.

  • Yosver Zulueta SP | CIN

Reds' Yosver Zulueta: Sent back to minors

The Reds optioned Zulueta to Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday.

Zulueta made his major-league debut in Tuesday's 9-5 loss to the Pirates, striking out four and allowing one run over a three-inning relief appearance. He'll head back to Louisville to make space on the roster for Graham Ashcraft, who has been recalled from Louisville to start Wednesday's series finale versus Pittsburgh.

  • Reds' Graham Ashcraft: Recalled ahead of start

The Reds recalled Ashcraft from Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday.

Ashcraft will get the start Wednesday against the Pirates, taking the rotation spot of the injured Nick Lodolo (finger). The right-hander has struggled at the big-league level this season, collecting a 5.05 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in 62.1 innings over 12 starts. He appeared to get back on track in two starts with Louisville, giving up a total of four runs with a 12:2 K:BB over 12 innings. Ashcraft will likely be needed for multiple starts and will try to make a case to stick in the Reds rotation indefinitely.

  • Hunter Greene SP | CIN

Reds' Hunter Greene: Buckles against Bucs

Greene (5-3) took the loss Tuesday, surrendering six runs on seven hits and two walks over four innings as the Reds fell 9-5 to the Pirates. He struck out five.

Aggressive baserunning helped Pittsburgh score three times in the first inning before adding three more in the third, and Cincy was never able to climb out of the hole. The loss was Greene's first since April 22 -- over the 10 starts in between, he'd posted a sharp 2.80 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 62:26 K:BB through 61 innings. The 24-year-old right-hander will look to regain that form in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road this weekend in St. Louis.

  • Rowdy Tellez 1B | PIT

Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Swipes first bag of season

Tellez went 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's 9-5 win over the Reds.

The burly first baseman stole the fourth bag of his career, and his first since 2022, in the first inning as the Pirates grabbed an early 3-0 lead. Tellez has been enjoying his strong-side platoon role in June -- through 59 plate appearances this month, he's slashing .352/.407/.500 with five doubles, a homer, six runs and 11 RBI.

  • Mitch Keller SP | PIT

Pirates' Mitch Keller: Fades late in Tuesday's win

Keller (9-4) picked up the win in Tuesday's 9-5 victory over the Reds, giving up four runs (three runs) on six hits and three walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out six.

An Oneil Cruz error and a hit by pitch helped load the bases in the third inning, but Keller escaped the jam by striking out Jeimer Candelario and Spencer Steer. The right-hander seemed to run out of gas after that, eventually getting tagged for three runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth as he fell short of his 10th quality start of the season. Keller has still allowed more than three earned runs only once in nine outings since the beginning of May, going 7-1 over that stretch with a 1.85 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 52:12 K:BB through 58.1 innings. He'll look for win No. 10 on the year in his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come at home next week against the Cardinals.

  • Harrison Bader CF | NYM

Mets' Harrison Bader: Strong showing from bottom of order

Bader went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a second run scored and a stolen base in Tuesday's 9-7 win over the Yankees.

Hitting ninth in the order, Bader took Gerrit Cole deep in the second inning, one of four homers by the Mets off the Yankees ace. The 30-year-old center fielder is slashing .273/.295/.545 through 18 games in June with three of his five homers and three of his 11 steals on the season.
