Player Outlook
Parker Meadows is a prime late-round outfielder to target in redraft leagues and a potentially ascending asset in dynasty leagues. Austin's younger brother had an impressive run in big-league camp during spring training but he struggled out of the gate at Triple-A, slashing .237/.321/.391 in his first 53 games. However, he got into a groove from early-June on, hitting .273 with an .897 OPS, 13 home runs and 12 steals on 13 attempts over his final 59 games for Toledo before getting a late-August promotion to the majors. His 37-game run in the big leagues was impressive on several fronts. First, he provided plus center-field defense with 81st percentile arm strength and 90th percentile sprint speed. He also stole eight bases on nine attempts. Additionally, his 77.9 percent contact rate and 23 percent chase rate are strong marks for a 23-year-old rookie, as were his 35.2 percent groundball rate and 5.4 percent infield-flyball rate. Comerica Park was the 25th best park for lefty power last year, so it's possible his power will be capped in the 15-20 HR range early on, but the 6-foot-5 Meadows may just be scratching the surface as a slugger. He doesn't have pronounced splits and has a chance to be Detroit's leadoff hitter for all of 2024.

  • Tigers' Parker Meadows: Drives in two Friday

Meadows went 2-for-7 with a double, a run scored and two RBI in Friday's 7-6, extra-innings loss to the Athletics. Meadows now has consecutive multi-hit efforts as he continues to receive opportunities to pace Detroit's offense from the leadoff spot. The 24-year-old is batting an even .300 since the beginning of August with 14 extra-base hits and an .849 OPS. Meadows is locked in as a regular for the Tigers in center field, which should allow him to build on his recent success.

  • Tigers' Parker Meadows: Hits key grand slam

Meadows went 2-for-4 with a grand slam in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Padres. Detroit didn't score until the ninth inning, which was when Meadows launched his grand slam, giving the outfielder his sixth home run of the season. Since getting called back to the majors on Aug. 3 after some early-season struggles got him demoted, Meadows is batting .301 with three home runs, 12 RBI and 16 runs scored across 26 games. The youngster seems to be taking a step forward and could be poised for a 2025 breakout.

  • Tigers' Parker Meadows: Exiting lineup Wednesday

Meadows is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels. Meadows appears to be getting a routine day off after he started in each of the last five games. Unless he's used off the bench, Meadows will put his six-game hitting streak on hold Wednesday while the Tigers roll out a starting outfield trio of Riley Greene, Matt Vierling and Kerry Carpenter from left to right.

  • Tigers' Parker Meadows: Extends hitting streak with homer

Meadows went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Monday's 6-3 win over the White Sox. Meadows made his only hit count, launching his fifth home run of the season and extending his hitting streak to five games. The 24-year-old has been locked in all month, as he's now batting .333 in August with 11 extra-base hits in 18 games. Meadows missed nearly a month with a strained right hamstring sustained in early July, but it looks like he's rounding into form lately.

  • Tigers' Parker Meadows: Sitting vs. lefty

Meadows is absent from the lineup for Saturday's contest against the Yankees. The lefty-hitting Meadows will begin Saturday's contest in the dugout with New York sending southpaw Carlos Rodon to the mound. Matt Vierling will start in center field and bat in the leadoff spot.

  • Tigers' Parker Meadows: Tallies two hits in loss

Meadows went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Mariners. Since returning from the injured list Saturday, Meadows has rattled off four straight two-hit games, raising his season batting average from .131 to .186 in the process. That's still a rough figure overall, and the 24-year-old is striking out 33 percent of the time, but his recent stretch is showing glimpses of his immense potential. Fantasy managers who have shown patience with Meadows could be rewarded down the stretch.

  • Tigers' Parker Meadows: Powers Tigers to victory

Meadows went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and two RBI in Tuesday's win over the Mariners. Meadows plated the first run of the ballgame with a two-out single in the fourth and then extended the lead with a solo blast in the eighth. He now has multiple hits in both of his starts since being activated off the injured list. It's a small sample, but Meadows has looked much more comfortable at the dish since returning, though it's possible manager A.J. Hinch eases him back into action with planned off days after Meadows missed about a month due to a strained hamstring. The 24-year-old is now slashing .161/.264/.455 with four homers, eight RBI, 13 runs, four steals and a 12:36 BB:K in 106 plate appearances.

  • Tigers' Parker Meadows: On bench for finale

Meadows is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals. Meadows will retreat to the bench for the series finale after he came off the 10-day injured list and started in center field in Saturday's 6-5 extra-inning win over Kansas City. He played all 10 innings in the victory, going 2-for-5 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored. With Meadows reporting no setbacks with his hamstring coming out of Saturday's contest, he's most likely sitting Sunday in a pre-planned maintenance day coming off the injury. The youngster is still expected to be in store for regular starts in center field now that he's healthy again.

  • Tigers' Parker Meadows: Likely to return this weekend

Meadows (hamstring) is likely to be activated from the 10-day injured list at some point this weekend, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. The Tigers open a four-game series against the Royals at home on Thursday. Meadows has been out since early July with a strained right hamstring but has played three rehab games with Triple-A Toledo, including back-to-back contests Tuesday and Wednesday. He's played the field in just one of those games, so perhaps the Tigers would like him to get a little more work in defensively before activating him, but his return does appear to be imminent. When he is activated, Meadows will resume his role as Detroit's regular center fielder.

  • Tigers' Parker Meadows: Ready for rehab assignment

Meadows (hamstring) will begin his rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo on Sunday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. Meadows is ready for game action again after he landed on the 10-day injured list July 8 due to a right hamstring strain. He'll serve as the designated hitter for Toledo on Sunday, and then play center field Tuesday following the Triple-A club's team off day Monday, per Jason Beck of MLB.com. If Meadows checks out fine after the two rehab games, he could be ready to rejoin the Tigers as soon as next weekend for the club's four-game series with the Royals.

  • Tigers' Parker Meadows: Running bases Wednesday

Meadows (hamstring) will run the bases Wednesday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. It's a big step for Meadows as he works his way back from a right hamstring strain, an injury he suffered just over two weeks ago. If things go well, he should be ready for a rehab assignment soon, with a return by early August feasible.

  • Tigers' Parker Meadows: Returns with home run

Meadows went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 5-4 win over the Reds. Making his first MLB appearance since May 6, Meadows promptly blasted his third home run of the season. The 24-year-old struggled in his first stint with the Tigers this year, batting just .096 across 32 games before getting demoted. The team is hoping his time in the minors corrected some issues, and Meadows should get plenty of opportunities in center field moving forward, particularly due to his strong defense. If he can get his bat going, Meadows could develop into a fantasy asset down the stretch.

  • Tigers' Parker Meadows: Set to be recalled

The Tigers will recall Meadows from Triple-A Toledo prior to Friday's game against the Reds, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. Meadows was sent down by the Tigers in early May after putting up a lowly .443 OPS with a 37.7 percent strikeout rate over 32 games. However, he got back on track at Toledo, slashing .298/.394/.511 with eight home runs, 19 stolen bases and just a 19 percent strikeout rate in 47 contests. Meadows will get regular reps at least against right-handed pitching, and while there's no guarantee he'll be better this time around in the majors, his power/speed combo makes him worthy of being added in most fantasy formats.

  • Tigers' Parker Meadows: Remains on bench Friday

Meadows is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Yankees, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. Meadows has gone 3-for-28 (.107) over his past 11 games and will sit Friday for the third time in Detroit's past six contests. Wenceel Perez appears to have claimed an everyday role and will start in center field against New York righty Marcus Stroman.

  • Tigers' Parker Meadows: Goes deep in victory

Meadows went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's win over the Rays. Meadows connected with a Zack Littell slider to launch a mammoth 427-foot homer in the sixth inning. However, it was the only bright spot in the 24-year-old's evening as he struck out in his three other plate appearances. Despite a .093/.222/.241 slash line over 63 plate appearances this season, Meadows continues to get regular playing time in the Detroit outfield as a strong-side platoon player. Until he can string together more hits, he's best left on the fantasy waiver wire.

  • Tigers' Parker Meadows: Out against righty

Meadows is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Rangers, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. The Rangers are starting right-hander Jack Leiter, but the left-handed-hitting Meadows will nonetheless begin the series finale on the bench. Meadows has gone just 3-for-39 to begin the season, although he did pop his first home run Wednesday. Matt Vierling will start in center field Thursday.

  • Tigers' Parker Meadows: Hits first homer of 2024

Meadows went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to the Rangers. Meadows has really been struggling to start the season, as he's still batting just .077, and the outfielder had started to see his playing time dip a bit. He was moved down to eighth in the order Wednesday, and perhaps a lower lineup spot could help take some pressure off. Meadows has the talent to get rolling, though fantasy managers will want to see the 24-year-old string together a few more good games before feeling too confident.

  • Tigers' Parker Meadows: Hitting seventh Friday

Meadows is starting in center field and batting seventh Friday against the Twins. The 24-year-old had hit out of the leadoff spot in all seven of Detroit's games against a right-handed starter this season, but he's begun the campaign in a 2-for-25 slump and is being dropped down the order. It appears Meadows will retain the starting job in center field for now, but he'll likely need to get his bat on track soon in order to keep the role. Riley Greene will move atop the lineup Friday for Detroit.

  • Tigers' Parker Meadows: Sitting against lefty

Meadows is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets. The lefty-hitting Meadows will take a seat Monday with the Mets bringing southpaw Sean Manaea to the hill for the series opener. Meadows started all three games of the Tigers' season-opening sweep of the White Sox, going 1-for-10 with a triple, two walks and one run.

  • Tigers' Parker Meadows: Likely to stick in center

Meadows appears likely to be Detroit's everyday center fielder to begin 2024, with Riley Greene (elbow) shifting to a corner spot, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. The team likes what Meadows gives them defensively in center, so Greene, who is coming back from Tommy John surgery, will probably play most days in right. Offseason addition Mark Canha will then probably take left, with Matt Vierling and Akil Baddoo around to provide depth. Meadows flashed some potential as a rookie in 2023, notably swiping eight bags in 37 games. However, he'll need to improve upon his .699 OPS if he wants to make a larger fantasy impact in his first full season.
