Snead cleared waivers and was assigned outright to Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday. Snead was designated for assignment by the Mariners on Tuesday, but he'll now report to Triple-A after going unclaimed on waivers. The left-hander has appeared in 12 contests with Tacoma this season, producing a 2.92 ERA and 0.91 WHIP with 13 strikeouts over 12.1 innings.... See More ... See Less

Mariners' Kirby Snead: Added to big-league bullpen
The Mariners selected Snead's contract from Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday. Snead, 29, holds a 2.92 ERA and 13:2 K:BB across 12.1 innings with Tacoma this season. He'll give manager Scott Servais a left-handed relief option.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Kirby Snead: Gets minor-league deal from Seattle
Snead has signed a minor-league contract with the Mariners, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports. Snead, 29, has posted a 5.20 ERA and 51:30 K:BB across 64 innings of relief work during his time in the majors over the last three seasons. The left-hander will probably report to Triple-A Tacoma at the start of the 2024 season.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Kirby Snead: Outrighted to Triple-A
Oakland outrighted Snead to Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday. Snead, 29, gave up seven runs -- six earned -- on 14 hits and six walks over 11.2 major-league innings this season and also held an ugly 7.59 ERA in 23 appearances at Triple-A. He is now off the Athletics' 40-man roster.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Kirby Snead: Sent down to minors
Snead was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday. Snead holds a 4.63 ERA and 9:6 K:BB over 11.2 relief innings for the Athletics this season. His roster spot is being absorbed by Luis Medina (blister), who is coming off the injured list.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Kirby Snead: Takes second loss Wednesday
Snead (1-2) took the loss against the Mariners on Wednesday, allowing two earned runs on three hits and a walk over one-third of an inning. He struck out one. Snead was tasked with preserving a 4-3 lead when he entered in the seventh inning, but he put the first three men he faced on base and ultimately allowed a two-run single to J.P. Crawford that gave the Mariners a one-run advantage they wouldn't relinquish. The southpaw's stumble snapped a 10-appearance streak without allowing an earned run and shot Snead's 1.86 ERA and 1.14 WHIP to 3.60 and 1.50, respectively.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Kirby Snead: Takes first loss Sunday
Snead (1-1) took the loss against the Nationals on Sunday, allowing an unearned run on a hit and a walk without recording an out. Snead was called on to put out the fire after Trevor May was bounced around for five runs (three earned) over two-thirds of an inning, but the left-handed Snead wasn't up to the task, either. He issued a bases-loaded walk to the first batter he faced, Dominic Smith, and then saw the final three runs cross the plate courtesy of a fielding error by Nick Allen and a Jeter Downs game-winning RBI single. Snead hadn't allowed a run in the previous 3.1 innings covering his last four appearances, and despite the stumble Sunday, he still carries a solid 3.38 ERA over his first seven outings.... Athletics' Kirby Snead: Recalled from Las Vegas
The Athletics recalled Snead from Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday. Snead has yet to pitch in the majors this season and holds a 7.20 ERA and 2.07 WHIP through 15 innings in Triple-A. However, he's surrendered just two runs while collecting 12 strikeouts across his last nine appearances, so the A's will hope to capitalize on Snead's momentum out of the bullpen.... See More ... Athletics' Kirby Snead: Activated from 60-day IL
Oakland activated Snead (shoulder) from the 60-day injured list Friday. Finally recovered from the shoulder strain he suffered back at the beginning of spring training, Snead will join the Athletics' bullpen ahead of Friday night's series opener against the White Sox. He allowed seven earned runs over seven innings on a not-so-encouraging minor-league rehab assignment, but the A's badly need fresh relief arms.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Kirby Snead: Works up to 30 pitches Wednesday
Snead (shoulder) was credited with a hold in Triple-A Las Vegas' win over Round Rock on Wednesday, allowing an earned run on two hits and a walk over 1.1 innings. Snead had to navigate some trouble that included a solo home run allowed to J.P. Martinez and pushed his pitch count to 30 in the process. The left-hander has logged at least one frame in four of his seven rehab appearances, and although he's allowed one earned run in four of his five outings with the Aviators, he appears built up enough for the relief role he'd fill at the big-league level.... Athletics' Kirby Snead: Bounces back in second rehab outing
Snead (shoulder) fired 1.2 scoreless innings for the Athletics' Arizona Complex League team Saturday against the AZL Reds, allowing no hits and one walk while recording a strikeout. The left-hander redeemed himself after surrendering three runs over two-thirds of an inning during his first rehab appearance Tuesday. Snead may be set to move up affiliates following Saturday's encouraging outing, but he still looks to be trending toward a late-June regular-season debut at the earliest.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Kirby Snead: Poor performance in AZL outing
Snead (shoulder) allowed three earned runs on two hits and a walk over two-thirds of an inning for the Athletics' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate Tuesday. Snead had a rough time kicking off his rehab assignment despite the caliber of competition, drawing the start but facing only four batters before getting the hook. The left-hander's outing Tuesday will likely be one of many across multiple minor-league affiliates before he's back on the big-league roster.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Kirby Snead: Rehab assignment on tap
Snead (shoulder) experienced no discomfort after throwing a live batting practice at Oakland's spring training complex in Arizona on Friday and is ready for a minor-league rehab assignment, the team's official site reports. Snead's latest encouraging step comes on the heels of a 20-pitch bullpen session May 26 and a sim game Tuesday, both which also went off without a hitch. Consequently, the southpaw, who's been sidelined since spring training, appears set to join an affiliate in the coming days for what should be a fairly extensive rehab assignment.... See More ... Athletics' Kirby Snead: Throwing again
Snead (shoulder) will throw roughly 20 pitches in a sim game Friday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Snead is currently on the 60-day injured list after suffering a shoulder strain in early March. He's eligible to return May 29, though that's unlikely given the state of his throwing progression. Snead could realistically return in early to mid-June following a rehab assignment.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Kirby Snead: Lands on 60-day IL
Snead (shoulder) was placed on the 60-day injured list Sunday. Snead was shut down from throwing in early March due to a left shoulder strain, and he'll be sidelined for at least the first two months of the season. The 28-year-old received his first substantial run in the big leagues last year and had a 5.84 ERA, 1.75 WHIP and 35:22 K:BB over 44.2 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Kirby Snead: First career save
Snead threw 1.1 scoreless innings without allowing a baserunner to earn the save Wednesday against the Angels. Snead entered the game with a one-run lead and successfully maintained the advantage to tally his first career save. Despite the positive close to the campaign, Snead maintained only a 5.84 ERA with a 35:22 K:BB across 44.2 innings. He is very unlikely to see regular save chances in 2023.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Kirby Snead: Takes first loss Thursday
Snead (1-1) took the loss against the Mariners on Thursday, allowing two earned runs on two hits, a walk and a wild pitch over two-thirds of an inning. His messy line during a brief 17-pitch outing came after the southpaw inherited a one-on, no-out situation from starter Adrian Martinez. Snead opened September with three straight scoreless appearances, but he's allowed six earned runs on 10 hits across 4.1 innings over his subsequent five trips to the mound.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Kirby Snead: Sent down Friday
Snead was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday, Melissa Lockard of The Athletic reports. Snead picked up four holds in April, but he struggled over six appearances since the start of May, posting a 15.19 ERA and 3.38 WHIP in 5.1 innings. The southpaw will attempt to sort things out in the minors, while Jacob Lemoine was recalled by the Athletics to take on a bullpen role.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Kirby Snead: Records fourth hold
Snead recorded his fourth hold in a win over the Giants on Wednesday, firing a scoreless one-third of an inning. The southpaw was brought on to face Brandon Belt in a same-handed matchup with Austin Slater on second base and two out. Snead induced an inning-ending flyout from Belt in a five-pitch at-bat, making it a short but effective night for the 27-year-old. After allowing two earned runs to the Phillies in his first appearance of the season, Snead has now generated six consecutive scoreless efforts.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Kirby Snead: Returns off injured list
Snead (undisclosed) was activated from the injured list Saturday. Snead missed eight days of action and spent time on the COVID-19-related IL, but he is ready to reclaim a spot in Oakland's bullpen. Expect him to work in middle relief for the club moving forward.... See More ... See Less
