Chargers' Zion Johnson: Fifth-year option declined by Bolts
Johnson had his fifth-year option declined by the Chargers on Thursday, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
The offensive guard has started all 51 games he's played in across three pro seasons. A 2022 first-round pick, Johnson should be in line to start again in 2025, as Los Angeles' only major addition to the offensive line in the offseason came in the form of free-agent signing Mekhi Becton. Becton should slide in at right guard with Johnson, with last year's center Bradley Bozeman and tackles Joe Alt and Rashawn Slater filling out the rest of the line, though Johnson might see time at center this year.

Chargers' Zion Johnson: Cleared to play Thursday
Johnson (ankle) is active for Thursday night's game against the Broncos.
Johnson was a DNP for the Chargers' two walkthrough sessions Monday and Tuesday due to an ankle injury, but he was able to log a full practice Wednesday. The 2022 first-round pick will play Thursday and serve as the Bolts' starting left guard.

Chargers' Zion Johnson: Still dealing with ankle injury
Johnson (ankle) didn't participate in Tuesday's practice.
The Chargers' initial Week 16 injury report listed receiver Quentin Johnston as a non-participant Monday with an ankle injury, but Daniel Popper of The Athletic notes that that label was instead meant for Johnson, whose name was absent from the report. Los Angeles' updated injury report now correctly lists Johnson as a non-participant for the second day in a row, putting the left guard's status in question for Thursday's game against the Broncos.

Chargers' Zion Johnson: Appears clear of ankle injury
Johnson (ankle) does not appear on the Chargers' estimated injury report Monday.
Johnson was removed from Sunday's loss to Tampa Bay due to an ankle issue and was replaced by Jamaree Salyer at left guard. Los Angeles held a walkthrough rather than a full practice Monday, but it's nonetheless a good sign for Johnson's health that he doesn't have a designation on the injury report. Unless Johnson pops up on the injury report Tuesday or Wednesday, he should be good to go for Thursday's Week 16 game against Denver.

Chargers' Zion Johnson: Questionable to return Sunday
Johnson (ankle) is questionable to return to Sunday's contest against the Buccaneers.
Johnson suffered the ankle injury in the second half of the contest and his ability to return is now uncertain. In his absence, Jamaree Salyer has taken over at left guard versus Tampa Bay.

Chargers' Zion Johnson: Good to go vs. Cardinals
Johnson (ankle) was a full participant in Friday's practice.
Johnson popped up on the Chargers' injury report Thursday due to an ankle injury he likely sustained in Week 6 against the Broncos. It doesn't appear to be a major issue, considering the 2022 first-round pick was able to practice in full Friday. Barring any setbacks, Johnson should start at right guard Monday against the Cardinals.
