Sharks' Klim Kostin: Still not day-to-day
Kostin (lower body) is working his way back to full fitness but is still not in the day-to-day category. Head coach Ryan Warsofsky told reporters Tuesday, "He's progressing. He's skating again," Warsofsky said. "He's a little ways away here, not really in a day-to-day category," per Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now.
Kostin has already missed six games due to his lower-body injury and seems no closer to getting back onto the ice at this point. Even when healthy, the forward has struggled to produce, going pointless over his last 11 outings while contributing just eight shots.

Sharks' Klim Kostin: Missing road trip
Kostin (lower body) will not join the Sharks for their five-game road trip, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports Monday.
Kostin wasn't going to be eligible to come off injured reserve for the first two games of the trip regardless, but this news effectively rules him out for longer. Considering the 25-year-old winger is mired in an 11-game point drought, few fantasy managers are likely to be anxiously awaiting his return to the lineup, but those that are will have to wait awhile longer.

Sharks' Klim Kostin: Moves to injured reserve
Kostin (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, per the NHL media site.
Kostin was injured in Friday's contest and will ultimately miss a minimum of three games due to the issue. His move to IR opened a roster spot for Carl Grundstrom to return from an upper-body injury in Saturday's matchup against Minnesota. Kostin is not a lock to be in the lineup once he's healthy again.

Sharks' Klim Kostin: Will miss Saturday's game
Kostin (lower body) won't play Saturday versus Minnesota, per Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News.
Kostin left Friday's 2-1 loss to Utah due to the injury. He has a goal, four points and 82 hits in 26 appearances in 2024-25. Alexander Wennberg (illness) is also exiting the lineup, and Nico Sturm (lower body) will be a game-time call, so there's a scenario where San Jose will have as few as 10 healthy forwards. With that in mind, it wouldn't be surprising to see the Sharks recall some players from the minors. An alternative possibility is that Carl Grundstrom (upper body) and Jake Walman (lower body) will be activated off injured reserve ahead of Saturday's tilt, which would get the Sharks up to 12 forwards even if Sturm is unavailable.

Sharks' Klim Kostin: Injured Friday
Kostin sustained a lower-body injury and won't return to Friday's contest versus Utah.
Kostin has had some poor injury luck this season. This was his sixth game back from an upper-body injury, and he hasn't earned a point since his return. If Kostin can't suit up Saturday against the Wild, the Sharks may have to call up a forward or dress seven defensemen.

Sharks' Klim Kostin: Activated off IR
Kostin (upper body) was activated off injured reserve Friday, according to Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News.
Kostin missed the Sharks' past five games due to the injury. Although he's now on the active roster, the 25-year-old is expected to be scratched Friday versus Vegas. That's not surprising because Kostin didn't have a secure spot in the lineup to begin with. He might get a chance to play Saturday versus Calgary.

Kostin (undisclosed) is questionable to return to Thursday's game versus the Blues, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports.
Kostin was dealing with a lower-body injury earlier in the week, but it's not clear if this issue is related. Assuming he doesn't return, he can be considered day-to-day ahead of Saturday's game versus Utah.

Sharks' Klim Kostin: Slated to play
Kostin (lower body) took line rushes on the second line and is expected to play Tuesday versus the Hurricanes, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports.
Kostin appears to be set to avoid missing any time after being labeled a game-time decision prior to Tuesday's contest. The 25-year-old may not have a secure spot in the lineup, but he has suited up in 11 of the last 12 games.

Sharks' Klim Kostin: Adds helper Saturday
Kostin notched an assist and went plus-2 in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Kraken.
Kostin doesn't want to go back to the press box -- he has four points, 12 hits and nine PIM during a three-game point streak. The 25-year-old hadn't found any success on offense until this recent stretch. He's currently seeing third-line minutes, though the Sharks have a number of depth forwards who can rotate in and out of the lineup. Kostin is at least somewhat proven, having posted double-digit points and triple-digit hits in each of the last two campaigns.

Sharks' Klim Kostin: Gordie Howe hat trick in win
Kostin scored a goal on two shots, added an assist, levied six hits, logged seven PIM and went plus-2 in Friday's 8-5 win over the Kraken.
Kostin scored his first goal of the season in the first period, assisted on a Mikael Granlund tally in the second and fought Will Borgen in the third. Kostin has brought physicality whenever he plays, and he's now been in the lineup for seven of the past eight games. He's up to three points -- all of which have come in the last two contests -- while adding 10 shots on net, 45 hits, 17 PIM and a minus-4 rating over 14 appearances. With Kostin trending upward, Carl Grundstrom and Givani Smith will likely see reduced roles.

Kostin notched an assist, five hits and two PIM in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Senators.
Kostin has played in six of the last seven contests as injuries have taken a toll on the Sharks' forward group. He was able to contribute an assist on a Mario Ferraro tally in Wednesday's game. That was Kostin's first point in 13 appearances, and he's added eight shots on net, 10 PIM, 39 hits and a minus-6 rating this season, playing primarily in a bottom-six role.

Sharks' Klim Kostin: Loses out on regular role
Kostin was scratched for the eighth straight game when he sat out Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Rangers.
Kostin had no points over his first seven appearances of the season, and that has cost him a regular role. It's disappointing after he had 10 points in 19 contests following a deadline deal that sent him from Detroit to San Jose to close out 2023-24. Kostin could have a path to playing time if Nico Sturm (lower body) misses time after exiting Thursday's game, though Givani Smith will also be in the mix to enter the lineup.

Sharks' Klim Kostin: Strikes on power play
Kostin scored a power-play goal on three shots in Friday's 3-2 preseason shootout loss to the Ducks.
A Will Smith attempt went off the boards, and Kostin was there to clean up the loose change. With three points, including two power-play goals, over three preseason games, Kostin is a candidate to fill a versatile role in 2024-25. He will likely begin the season in a bottom-six role, but if he makes the most of his opportunities, he could find his way back to the second-line spot that saw him produce 10 points over his last 19 appearances of 2023-24.

The winger is up to 13 points, 38 shots on net, 94 hits and a minus-10 rating through 46 contests between the Sharks and the Red Wings this season, but his top-line role in San Jose has unlocked a new level of offense in his game.
