Sharks' Will Smith: Considered day-to-day
Head coach Ryan Warsofsky said Monday that Smith (upper body) is considered day-to-day, Max Miller of NHL.com reports.
Warsofsky already indicated Sunday that Smith would travel with the Sharks ahead of their upcoming four-game road trip, which begins Thursday in Washington and runs through Jan. 20 in Tampa Bay. Smith's status for Thursday's matchup against the Capitals remains uncertain, but he's shed his non-contact jersey in practice, which Warsofsky said was the next step in the 20-year-old's recovery process.

Sharks' Vincent Desharnais: Set to travel with team
Head coach Ryan Warsofsky said Monday that Desharnais (upper body) is expected to travel with the Sharks ahead of their upcoming four-game road trip, Max Miller of NHL.com reports.
Desharnais has been sidelined since late November due to his upper-body injury, but he returned to practice Jan. 4 and appears to be closing in on a return to game action. The Sharks' road trip runs from Thursday in Washington through Jan. 20 in Tampa Bay, and while it's not yet clear exactly when Desharnais will return, it seems likely that he'll be an option for the team sometime during the next week.

Sharks' Shakir Mukhamadullin: Joining team on trip
Mukhamadullin (upper body) will be with the Sharks for their four-game road trip, Max Miller of NHL.com reports Monday.
Mukhamadullin has missed San Jose's last four contests but looks close to getting back into the lineup. If the 24-year-old does get activated off injured reserve for Thursday's matchup with Washington, it will likely come at the expense of Sam Dickinson or Vincent Iorio.

Sharks' Philipp Kurashev: Not traveling with team
Kurashev (upper body) won't be with the Sharks when they leave for a four-game road trip, Max Miller of NHL.com reports, though he could join up later if cleared.
Kurashev has been out of action since getting hurt Dec. 13 versus the Penguins, a stretch of 12 games on injured reserve. Prior to getting hurt, the winger was mired in a 12-game goal drought, during which he generated a mere 11 shots to go with three helpers.

Sharks' Collin Graf: Nets goal in loss
Graf scored a goal on two shots in Sunday's 7-2 loss to the Golden Knights.
Graf ended a six-game goal drought with his first-period tally. He spent much of December in a top-six role, but his recent slowdown on offense has seen him slip back to the third line and off the power play. The versatile forward is up to 12 goals, 24 points, 48 shots on net, 46 hits, 32 blocked shots and a plus-5 rating through 44 appearances. He's able to fill a lot of different roles, so don't be surprised to see Graf move up to the top six again the next time the Sharks undergo a major line shuffle.

Sharks' Alexander Wennberg: Matches last year's goal total
Wennberg scored a goal in Sunday's 7-2 loss to the Golden Knights.
Wennberg stayed hot with his third goal and sixth point over the last four games. The rest of the Sharks couldn't say the same in this blowout loss. The 31-year-old center is already at 10 goals this season, matching his total from last year in 32 fewer appearances. He's up to 32 points, 55 shots on net, 55 blocked shots and a minus-12 rating over 45 appearances in 2025-26 while filling a second-line role.

Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Struggles in loss
Askarov stopped 26 of 32 shots in Sunday's 7-2 loss to the Golden Knights, who also had one empty-netter.
Askarov and the Sharks were down only 2-1 after one period, but the Golden Knights scored three times in the second to take over the game. While he hasn't been very good lately, Askarov has rarely been this bad between the pipes all year aside from the first few weeks. He's down to a 16-11-1 record with a 3.54 GAA and an .890 save percentage through 29 appearances. The Sharks are off until Thursday, when they start a back-to-back against the Capitals before continuing the road trip Friday in Detroit. Askarov and Alex Nedeljkovic are likely to split those starts and the two after that (Jan. 19 versus the Panthers and Jan. 20 versus the Lightning) to deal with the four-game road trip.

Sharks' Will Smith: Set to travel with team
Head coach Ryan Warsofsky said Sunday that Smith (upper body) will travel with the Sharks ahead of their upcoming four-game road trip, which begins Thursday in Washington and runs through Jan. 20 against Tampa Bay, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Smith has been sidelined since mid-December due to his upper-body injury, and the team announced Dec. 22 that he was considered week-to-week. It's not yet clear exactly which date Smith could return, but he at least appears to be drawing closer to suiting up. Over his first 33 appearances of the season, he recorded 12 goals, 17 assists, 12 PIM, seven hits and seven blocked shots while averaging 17:55 of ice time.

Sharks' John Klingberg: Removed from IR
Klingberg (lower body) was activated from injured reserve Sunday.
According to Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now, Klingberg will replace Nick Leddy in Sunday's lineup against Vegas. The 33-year-old Klingberg missed the last four games. He has accounted for nine goals, 16 points, 48 shots on net, 41 blocked shots and 23 hits through 31 appearances this season.

Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Taking on Golden Knights
Askarov will be the starting goaltender Sunday against the Golden Knights, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Since his torrid month of November, Askarov has allowed at least three goals in 12 straight starts. As a result, his numbers have taken a bit of a dip. The 23-year-old is 16-10-1 on the season with a 3.44 GAA and an .893 save percentage. The Golden Knights enter Sunday having won three straight games, scoring at least four goals in each contest.

Sharks' Sam Dickinson: Posts assist in overtime win
Dickinson logged an assist and four hits in Saturday's 5-4 overtime win over the Stars.
Since the start of December, Dickinson has three helpers, 15 blocked shots, 13 hits, 10 shots on net and a plus-1 rating over 16 outings. The 19-year-old defenseman stayed with the Sharks rather than getting loaned out to Team Canada for the World Junior Championship, so the NHL club is committed to getting him on-the-job experience this season. Dickinson has plenty of potential in the long run, but with just five points, a minus-3 rating, 30 shots on net, 30 hits and 28 blocked shots through 35 contests, he's best left off rosters in redraft formats this season.

Sharks' Dmitry Orlov: Logs power-play helper Saturday
Orlov notched a power-play assist, two hits and two PIM in Saturday's 5-4 overtime win over the Stars.
Orlov helped out on Tyler Toffoli's third-period tally, which sparked a second comeback effort for the Sharks. While Orlov hasn't scored since Dec. 11 versus the Maple Leafs, he's picked up five assists, 20 hits, 12 blocked shots and a plus-5 rating over the 12 games since his lone goal of the campaign. The 34-year-old defenseman is up to 22 points (11 on the power play), 46 shots on net, 63 hits, 46 blocked shots and 28 PIM across 44 appearances. He's a fine fill-in option in fantasy while serving on the first power-play unit in the absence of John Klingberg (lower body).

Sharks' Jeff Skinner: Pots power-play goal
Skinner scored a power-play goal in Saturday's 5-4 overtime win over the Stars.
Skinner has two goals and three assists over his last five contests. That production has helped the 33-year-old regain a stable spot on the third line after being an occasional scratch in December following his return from a lower-body injury. Skinner is up to six goals, 12 points, 53 shots on net, 14 PIM and a minus-9 rating through 31 appearances this season, so he still doesn't carry a lot of fantasy value in most formats.

Sharks' Alexander Wennberg: Strikes on power play
Wennberg scored a power-play goal on four shots in Saturday's 5-4 overtime win over the Stars.
Wennberg helped the Sharks dig out of a 2-0 deficit with his goal early in the second period. The 31-year-old center took multiple shots on net for just the second time in the last nine contests, but he's scored in each of those instances with multiple shots during that span. For the season, Wennberg has nine goals, 22 helpers, nine power-play points, 54 shots on net, 55 blocked shots and a minus-11 rating through 44 outings, mainly in a second-line role. He's one goal and four points shy of matching his output from 77 games a year ago, and he's well on his way to just the third 40-point campaign of his career.

Sharks' Adam Gaudette: Two points in win over Dallas
Gaudette scored an even-strength goal and added a power-play assist in Saturday's 5-4 overtime win over the Stars.
The Sharks scored four power-play goals in total on the afternoon, and Gaudette got in on the fun by helping to set up a Jeff Skinner tally late in the second period. Lower-body injuries have forced the journeyman center to spot in and out of the lineup over the last month, but he's been quietly productive when on the ice, getting onto the scoresheet in five straight games dating back to Dec. 20 and delivering three goals and six points during that time, including two goals and two assists with the man advantage.

Sharks' Tyler Toffoli: Plays hero in OT win
Toffoli scored two goals, including the overtime winner, and added an assist -- all on the power play -- in Saturday's 5-4 victory over Dallas.
After helping to set up an Alexander Wennberg tally in the second period, Toffoli really got to work with the Sharks down 4-2 in the third period. The veteran winger got the comeback started midway through the third by flipping home a rebound on his backhand, then ended the contest with a rocket of a one-timer two minutes into the extra frame. Toffoli has only nine power-play points (five goals, four assists) on the season, but he's been on a roll since the middle of December, racking up six goals and 13 points in the last 12 games.

Sharks' Macklin Celebrini: Three PP helpers Saturday
Celebrini pocketed three power-play assists in Saturday's 5-4 overtime win over the Stars.
The Sharks' power play scored four times in total, with Celebrini having a hand in an Alexander Wennberg goal in the second period as well as a pair of Tyler Toffoli tallies, including the OT winner. Celebrini extended his point streak to 13 games in the process, and the teenage phenom has amassed nine goals and 27 points over that stretch, becoming just the third player in the NHL this season to reach the 70-point plateau after Nathan MacKinnon and Connor McDavid.

Sharks' Alex Nedeljkovic: Hangs on for OT win
Nedeljkovic turned aside 16 shots in Saturday's 5-4 overtime win over the Stars.
The veteran netminder was staring at 2-0 and 4-2 deficits over the course of the afternoon but got bailed out by the Sharks' power play, which struck four times including Tyler Toffoli's OT winner. Nedeljkovic could be playing for his job right now with San Jose having acquired Laurent Brossoit on Thursday, and the former isn't making a great case to stick around -- over his last five outings, he's 2-2-0 with a 3.67 GAA and .847 save percentage.
