  • Flames' Etienne Morin: Signs entry-level deal

Morin signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Flames on Friday, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.

Morin was selected in the second round -- 48th overall -- in the 2023 Draft. The defenseman had 12 goals and 37 assists in 58 games with QMJHL Moncton in 2023-24 and played one AHL game on an amateur tryout basis with the Wranglers but was unable to hit the scoresheet. Expect to see Morin back in junior hockey in 2024-25.

  • Flames' Matvei Gridin: Pens three-year deal

Gridin agreed to terms on a three-year, entry-level contract with Calgary on Friday.

Gridin wasted no time putting pen to paper after being selected by the Flames in the first round of the 2024 NHL Draft. The 18-year-old center was committed to the University of Michigan for the upcoming 2024-25 campaign but looks to be headed to the QMJHL after being the first overall selection by Val-d'Or in the 2024 CHL Import Draft. As far as the NHL goes, Gridin will likely spend at least two more seasons developing his game before getting a shot with Calgary.

  • Flames' Zayne Parekh: Inks entry-level contract

Parekh signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Flames on Friday.

Parekh was selected by Calgary with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft. The 18-year-old defenseman put up huge numbers with OHL Saginaw in 2023-24 -- 33 goals and 96 points across 66 regular-season outings. His defensive play needs work, but Parekh has the potential to eventually become a phenomenal player.

  • Flames' Justin Kirkland: Pens one-year contract

Kirkland signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Flames on Wednesday.

Kirkland had eight goals and 30 points in 43 regular-season contests with AHL Tucson in 2023-24. He also appeared in two outings with Arizona, recording no points, one shot, five hits and one block over that stretch. Kirkland is likely to start the 2024-25 campaign in the minors.

  • Flames' Jonathan Aspirot: Secures one-year contract

Aspirot inked a one-year, two-way deal with the Flames on Tuesday.

Aspirot has spent the past five seasons playing in the AHL without ever making his NHL debut. The 25-year-old defenseman did put up a career-best 33 points in 66 regular-season games for the Wranglers last year, but that's unlikely to secure him a significant role with Calgary heading into the 2024-25 campaign.

  • Flames' Martin Frk: Coming back to North America

Frk agreed to terms on a one-year, two-way contract with Calgary on Monday, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.

Frk will give the NHL another shot after spending last season playing in Switzerland for Bern SC and Rapperswil-Jona. During his last NHL stint back in 2021-22, the winger was only able to play six games for the Kings, though he did score twice on 15 shots in those contests. Heading into training camp, Frk is far from a lock to make the Opening Night roster and could spend significant time in the minors.

  • Flames' Ryan Lomberg: Agrees to two-year deal

Lomberg signed a two-year, $4 million contract with Calgary on Monday, per Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.

Lomberg chipped in five goals, two assists, 80 PIM and 179 hits in 75 regular-season contests with Florida in 2023-24. The 29-year-old forward will likely occupy a bottom-six role with the Flames.

  • Flames' Jake Bean: Picks up two-year deal

Bean (hand) agreed to terms on a two-year, $3.5 million contract with Calgary on Monday.

Bean will link up with his hometown club after the Blue Jackets decided not to give him a qualifying offer. The 26-year-old blueliner saw action in 72 regular-season contests last year in which he generated four goals, nine assists and 110 blocked shots. Offensively, Bean is rather limited, having reached the 25-point threshold once in his career, though he's lost a lot of time to injuries over the last four years.

  • Flames' Devin Cooley: Inks two-year agreement

Cooley signed a two-year contract with the Flames on Monday, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports. The agreement is a two-way deal for the 2024-25 campaign, but it becomes a one-way contract in the second season.

Cooley had a 4.98 GAA and an .870 save percentage in six contests with the Sharks in 2023-24. He also posted a 3.77 GAA and an .891 save percentage in 14 outings with AHL Rochester. He's projected to start 2024-25 in the minors.

  • Flames' Yegor Sharangovich: Earns five-year extension

Sharangovich signed a five-year, $28.75 million contract extension with Calgary on Monday, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.

Sharangovich still has one more season left on his two-year, $6.2 million deal before he receives a significant raise. He generated personal bests in 2023-24 with 31 goals and 59 points in 82 regular-season outings with the Flames.

  • Flames' Anthony Mantha: Inks one-year contract

Mantha signed a one-year, $3.5 million contract with Calgary on Monday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

Mantha produced 23 goals and 44 points in 74 regular-season contests between Vegas and Washington in 2023-24. The 29-year-old forward will be a middle-six option for the Flames in the upcoming campaign.

  • Flames' Luke Misa: Fall finally stopped in Round 5

Misa was the 150th overall pick by the Flames in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft on Saturday.

Misa's younger brother, Michael, is expected to be in the conversation for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft. Despite not being close to that level, Luke is a solid prospect. His standout skill is his speed, and he had a solid season in the OHL from a production standpoint (26 goals and 81 points in 66 games). Misa can create havoc all over the ice with his wheels and adds value to a team simply by drawing a ton of penalties. He can be too perimeter-oriented at times, and we've seen players with this skill set struggle to adapt to the professional ranks in recent years. Still, Misa could turn into a steal for Calgary because of his ability to play well at a high pace.

  • Flames' Kirill Zarubin: Adds depth in Round 3

Zarubin was the 84th overall pick by the Flames in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft on Saturday.

At 6-foot-4 and 180 pounds at just 18 years of age, Zarubin possesses the size all NHL teams are looking for in their goalkeepers these days. He was great in the Russian Jr. league last season, going 15-7-6 with five shutouts, a 1.99 GAA and a .944 save percentage. He's nothing more than a long-term lottery ticket for the Flames, but an intriguing one nonetheless

  • Flames' Henry Mews: Fall stopped in Round 3

Mews was the 74th overall pick by the Flames in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft on Saturday.

Mews has quickly developed into one of the top offensive rearguards in the OHL. He averaged nearly a point per game for Ottawa this past season (15 goals and 61 points in 66 games). At his best, Mews looked like a no-doubt first-rounder. He's an asset with the man advantage and is constantly aggressive to create scoring chances for his team. That's the good news. The bad news is that Mews can make spotty decisions with the puck because he wants to press offensively. Still, he has a high ceiling if he can eventually put it all together.

  • Flames' Jacob Battaglia: Picked by Calgary late in Round 2

Battaglia was the 62nd overall pick by the Flames in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft on Saturday.

Scouts hoping to see improvement from Battaglia in the OHL this past season got their wish. He went from strictly a depth option for Kingston (seven goals, 27 points in 66 games) to nearly a point-per-game player (31 goals, 65 points in 67 games) in the span of a year. Battaglia displayed a consistent ability to make plays with the man advantage, as well. Areas that need improvement here are skating and defensive zone player. That said, the former is a larger concern than the latter given the fact Calgary drafted Battaglia to generate offense. He's looking at a couple more seasons at the junior level.

  • Flames' Andrew Basha: WHL star stays local

Basha was the 41st overall pick by the Flames in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft on Saturday.

Basha is fresh off a huge season for WHL Medicine Hat, posting 30 goals and 85 points in 63 games. It would be a stretch to project him as a future top-six forward for the Flames, but there's an excellent combination of skill and work ethic here. Basha filled a variety of roles for the Tigers throughout the year and thrived in every single one of them. He's constantly around the puck and working to make plays. Basha is going to have to work to improve his foot speed and place with a bit more pace in the coming years, but he makes for an ideal development piece to add to the Calgary prospect pool.

  • Flames' Matvei Gridin: Michigan commit heads to Calgary

Gridin was the 28th overall pick by the Flames at the 2024 NHL Entry Draft on Friday.

Good luck poking holes in anything Gridin showed on the ice over the past season. Born in Russia and committed to the University of Michigan, Gridin is fresh off a campaign in which he led the USHL in scoring (38 goals, 83 points; 60 games). His shot is accurate and hard, and he showed he could consistently beat opposing goaltenders from distance. His skating is at least average, if not a tick above, and his play away from the puck has improved considerably over the course of the past year. Gridin has a real chance to be an immediate contributor for the Wolverines this fall and makes for an excellent offensive depth piece for Calgary's prospect pool.

  • Flames' Zayne Parekh: Electricity on ice ignites Calgary

Parekh was the ninth overall pick by the Flames in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft on Friday.

Parekh is an electric offensive defender -- he finished sixth overall in OHL scoring with 96 points (33 goals, 63 assists) in 66 games this season. Additionally, he set an OHL record for goals (21) by a 16-year-old defender in 2022-23. Parekh's offensive instincts are unparalleled in this draft class, and they far overshadow his disinterest in his own zone. His coach will shelter him with offensive zone starts, and Parekh will become an elite offensive NHL defender who runs PP1. There are a lot of draft year parallels between Parekh and Quinn Hughes (2018), and look how Hughes improved his defensive play. Parekh could end up being the best fantasy defenseman in this draft.

  • Flames' Kevin Bahl: Gets traded

Bahl was acquired by the Flames from the Devils along with a 2025 first-round pick in exchange for Jacob Markstrom on Wednesday, per Darren Dreger of TSN.

Bahl had a goal, 11 points, 82 PIM, 151 hits and 103 blocks in 82 contests while averaging 17:24 of ice time with New Jersey in 2023-24. The 23-year-old was originally taken by Arizona with the No. 55 overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft, but he ended up being included in the package that sent Taylor Hall to the Coyotes in 2019. Bahl might have a shot at a top-four spot in Calgary, but that is far from guaranteed.

  • Flames' Martin Pospisil: Will miss rest of Worlds

Pospisil (upper body) will miss the remainder of the 2024 IIHF World Championship, per Wes Gilbertson of the Calgary Sun.

Pospisil was doing phenomenal at the tournament, providing three goals and seven points in seven games with Team Slovakia, but he sustained the injury during Monday's contest versus Sweden. The severity of his injury isn't known yet, so it's not clear if Pospisil's offseason training or availability for the start of the 2024-25 campaign will be impacted. The 24-year-old recorded eight goals, 24 points, 107 PIM and 238 hits in 63 contests with Calgary as a rookie in 2023-24.
