  • Rays' Ben Rortvedt: Sitting down Saturday

Rortvedt isn't in the Rays' lineup for Saturday's game against Toronto, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Rortvedt will take a seat after going 0-for-4 with a run scored and two strikeouts during Friday's series opener. Alex Jackson will take over behind the plate while batting eighth.

  • Giants' Patrick Bailey: Clear to resume baseball activities

Bailey (concussion) was evaluated by Dr. Mickey Collins, a concussion expert in Pittsburgh, and cleared for baseball activities this weekend, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Bailey has been on the 7-day injured list due to the concussion twice in May. The catcher is expected to be evaluated by the Giants next week, so a return is not imminent. Blake Sabol and Curt Casali will continue to share the catching duties until Bailey is activated.

  • Red Sox's Tyler Heineman: Activated, optioned to Triple-A

Heineman (hamstring) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list and optioned to Triple-A Worcester on Saturday, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

Heineman has been out since April 23 with a right hamstring strain, but he'll now return to action with Triple-A. The catcher has produced a .235 average with a double, three RBI, eight runs scored and two stolen bases over 34 at-bats in 12 games with Worcester this season. With both Connor Wong and Reese McGuire healthy and on the major-league roster, Heineman is likely the next man up if Boston needs another backstop down the road.

  • Pirates' Yasmani Grandal: Resting Saturday

Grandal isn't in the Pirates' lineup for Saturday's game against the Cubs.

Grandal will get a breather Saturday after going 2-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored during Friday's win. Joey Bart will replace the 35-year-old veteran behind the plate, batting seventh.

  • Miguel Amaya C | CHC

Cubs' Miguel Amaya: Day off Saturday

Amaya isn't in the Cubs' lineup Saturday against Pittsburgh.

After belting a solo homer in Friday's loss, Amaya will sit down for the third game of Chicago's series with the Pirates. Yan Gomes will fill in behind the dish and bat ninth.

  • Nick Fortes C | MIA

Marlins' Nick Fortes: Swats second homer

Fortes went 2-for-3 with a walk, a three-run home run and two additional runs scored in Friday's 8-0 romp over the Mets.

The catcher turned on a Christian Scott sweeper up in the zone and drove it over the wall in left-center field to cap a four-run second inning for the Marlins. It was only Fortes' second homer of the season, and while he tied his career high by reaching base four times in the victory, his .159/.198/.256 slash line on the season keeps him far from fantasy consideration. It's his work behind the plate that's kept him in the lineup, however -- Miami's produced three straight shutouts, and Fortes has caught all of them.

  • Austin Wells C | NYY

Yankees' Austin Wells: Sits down Saturday

Wells isn't in the Yankees' lineup Saturday against the White Sox.

Wells dropped to 5-for-25 (.200) since the start of May after going 0-for-3 during Friday's series opener. He'll get a breather Saturday and give way to Jose Trevino, who will bat eighth.

  • Reds' Tyler Stephenson: Smacks homer in loss

Stephenson went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 7-3 loss to the Dodgers.

Stephenson has four multi-hit efforts over his last five games, and each of those two-hit games has included one knock for extra bases. His homer Friday was his second of the month and fifth of the season. The catcher is up to a .264/.342/.472 slash line with 14 RBI, 18 runs scored, one stolen base and seven doubles through 120 plate appearances on the year.

  • Royals' Salvador Perez: Three hits in win

Perez went 3-for-3 with a double, a walk, one RBI and one run scored in Friday's 6-2 win over the Athletics.

Perez opened the scoring with an RBI single in the first inning and got one base three more times in Friday's victory. The veteran catcher is batting .294 (15-for-51) with seven extra-base hits and eight RBI contests in May. That's actually down from his overall numbers -- Perez is slashing a stellar .335/.403/.557 with eight home runs, 34 RBI, 18 runs scored and 11 doubles over 176 plate appearances. He last hit above .300 for a full season in the abbreviated 2020 campaign, so there is a high risk that he cools off eventually in 2024, but he's been excellent over the first quarter of the season.

  • Connor Wong C | BOS

Red Sox's Connor Wong: Knocks four hits

Wong went 4-for-5 with an RBI double in Friday's loss to St. Louis.

Wong continues to impress in 2024 as he's up to 11 multi-hit efforts in his first 30 games. It was his first four-hit game since April 24 and bumped his season slash line up to .362/.389/.552 with 10 extra-base hits and 16 RBI. Through 11 games this month, Wong has gone 15-for-38 (.394) with four multi-hit games.
